Amelia couldn't help but notice how clean the room was. Granny Taylor, who had obviously been bedridden for a long time, was well taken care of. The room was also well-ventilated, making it not too oppressive.
The young boy who had brought them in started tidying up the room immediately upon entering. He fetched hot water to wipe Granny Taylor's face and placed a wildflower in a simple clay pot on the table. His proficient manner clearly indicated that this wasn't his first time doing such tasks.
"Who are you?" Granny Taylor opened her eyes, her gaze sharp despite her imminent death.
Amelia was the first to respond, "Hello Granny Taylor, I came to ask for medicine!"
The frail old woman had been calm, but when she heard Amelia was seeking medicine, she suddenly became furious.
"Get out, all of you! Leave now!" she shouted.
Seeing Granny Taylor's anger, the young boy immediately ran over and began pushing Amelia and Noah Foster out of the room without hesitation.
"You promised not to upset Granny! Liars, get out and don't come back!" he exclaimed.
Noah Foster blocked the young boy, who couldn't push him away despite his best efforts. The boy's eyes flashed with a wildness uncommon in children, like an enraged wolf cub.
Although Amelia felt bad for the child, she didn't want to leave without achieving her goal.
"Granny Taylor, I truly have no ill intentions. My loved one's face was accidentally disfigured, and I'm here to ask for medicine to help him. Please, could you assist us?" Amelia pleaded sincerely.
Noah Foster was taken aback by the mention of "loved one," but it wasn't the right time to question it.
The fierce boy was no match for Noah Foster, unable to even bite him. Noah Foster continued to block him, his eyes filled with anger and determination.
Granny Taylor saw this and her chest heaved with rage, as if she was about to pass out.
Amelia was frightened.
Seeing the two powerful individuals on her side, she realized that they were clearly bullying the elderly woman and the child, both of whom were vulnerable.
Amelia quickly said, "Noah Foster, let go of the boy! We're sorry for disturbing you. We'll leave now, Granny Taylor. Please don't get upset."
After speaking, Amelia pulled Noah Foster out the door. If her needs were to be met at the expense of others' suffering, she would not stoop so low.
If it were her own face that was injured, she would leave without a second thought. But it was Tyler Davis who was hurt, and she couldn't give up on him just yet.
Amelia walked to the door and the young boy angrily closed it with a loud bang. Despite his anger, he didn't curse or shout, showing that he had been well-taught.
Amelia stood for a few seconds, then slowly crouched down and whispered an apology to the boy inside the room. The sound of his rapid breathing paused for a moment, but he didn't respond.
Noah Foster, seeing the apologetic yet determined look on Amelia's face, didn't know what to say and silently stood by her side.
After a while, Amelia spoke again, "Granny Taylor, what do you want from me in exchange for the medicine? You can set your conditions, and I'll consider anything!"
Granny Taylor, evidently not in a good mood, growled, "Conditions? You're bullying the weak, the sick, and the disabled. What conditions are there to talk about? If you go to the courtyard and kowtow a hundred or eighty times to apologize, then I might consider discussing conditions."
Noah Foster bristled at this, "You old hag! Is your medicine that precious? I'll tell you this: talk nicely if you know what's good for you. Do you know the Foster family? I'm from the Foster family, and if you annoy me, you'll regret it!"
Noah Foster was clearly not used to bullying others with his status, and his threat might even be mistaken for a bluff.
"Hmph, what do I care about the Foster family? Get lost!"
As expected, Granny Taylor was not one to be swayed, no matter what was said.
Annoyed, Noah Foster moved to kick the door, but Amelia quickly held him back.
"Noah Foster, don't be impulsive. It's okay," she said.
After speaking, Amelia calmly walked to the center of the courtyard.
Although the courtyard was old and worn, it was still clean. Amelia suddenly knelt down in the middle of it, on the cold, hard stone, facing Granny Taylor's room, and began to kowtow.
The small estate had doors cracked open in all directions, and people inside were probably watching Amelia as she knelt in the middle.
Noah Foster felt that this was humiliating for Amelia. After recovering from his shock, he wanted to help her up, "Amelia, what are you doing? Are you crazy? You can kowtow all you want, but that old hag can't see you!"
Amelia smiled reassuringly at Noah Foster, "Noah Foster, it's alright."
Noah Foster's anger slowly subsided, and he stopped yelling, silently watching Amelia.
He walked to the closed door and spoke softly, "Granny Taylor, I apologize for shouting earlier. Please let Amelia get up. She's just sincerely asking for some medicine. She's such a proud person!"
There was no reply from inside the room. Noah Foster didn't speak again, just silently watched Amelia as she continued to kowtow, one after another, towards the room.
It wasn't until Noah Foster counted the fifty-eighth kowtow that the door to the room finally opened again!
The young boy from before came out, looking somewhat uneasy at Amelia, "Granny says you can come in!"
Amelia gave the boy a reassuring smile, indicating that she was okay.
Noah Foster quickly stepped forward to help Amelia up. Her legs were already in bad shape, and after kneeling for so long, she had trouble standing up!
Noah Foster supported Amelia as they walked in.
Granny Taylor eyed Amelia sharply, "So it's you who wants the medicine, right?"
"Yes, please," Amelia replied courteously.
Granny Taylor's eyes flashed, and if the old woman still had teeth, she would probably be gritting them as she spoke, "I have two conditions. If you can meet them, I'll give it to you."
"Please tell me!" Amelia asked earnestly.
"First, I want this estate to remain untouched for ten years!"
"Second... I want five hundred thousand in cash!"
Noah Foster thought that the old woman was asking for the moon. What kind of precious medicine could be worth so much money?
And why humiliate Amelia earlier if it was just about money?
However, Amelia agreed without hesitation, "Alright."
"How can I believe that you can fulfill these conditions?" Granny Taylor asked hesitantly.
"Don't worry, I can do it. When Amelia makes a promise, she keeps it!" Amelia declared.
Noah Foster looked at Amelia's innocent expression and didn't know what to say. Who knew who Amelia was, and how could such a guarantee be effective?
Seeing Granny Taylor's hesitation, Noah Foster took over, "I'm a young lady from the Foster family. Judging by your accent, you're also from City A. You should know about the only Foster family in City A's military compound. These requests are nothing to me."
Granny Taylor was still hesitant. It seemed that someone had deceived her before, and she was very suspicious.
