Chapter 32 - Chapter 32 Intermediate Magic

Tianti's scheming was immediately noticed by Sain, but he didn't say anything about it to anyone.

As for how long Tianti can use Sain as a shield, it depends on her own luck and abilities.

And if Tianti ever causes trouble that implicates Sain in the future, not only will he deny it, but he'll also turn against her.

There are no truly good people at the Dark Magic Academy.

Sain isn't a good person either, he just has certain limits he won't cross.

But if someone uses his limits to do something harmful to his interests, Sain will use the flames of magic to show them what true cruelty is.

...

Apart from his mentor Mosido, Sain also seemed to be a focus of attention in the classroom, especially from the formal Dark Magician Dirth.

In Sain's opinion, Dirth was the most beautiful formal Dark Magician in the Dark Magic Academy, and she had publicly questioned Sain several times in class.

Sain didn't believe that Dirth was paying so much attention to him because of her disciple Merry, who sat not far from him.

He guessed it was probably related to his mentor Mosido.

Although Sain had been going to his mentor's place less and less recently, he had noticed that Dirth had visited his mentor several times.

Could it be that these two formal Dark Magicians often interacted with each other?

Or maybe there was a special relationship between this female Dark Magician and his mentor, Sain couldn't help but wonder.

Although Dirth was beautiful, her way of doing things still matched that of a Dark Magician.

Sain had witnessed Dirth publicly making several entry-level apprentices "test medicine" in class more than once.

Some apprentices were lucky and had no problems after testing the medicine, and some even benefited from it.

However, many apprentices were not so lucky, suffering only from body aches or certain after-effects, some of which were severe.

Sain had seen one apprentice explode into a mist of blood in class, and the sight of the redness at the corner of Dirth's mouth was unforgettable.

It was unclear whether Merry becoming one of her disciples was a good thing or a bad thing.

Sain has been busy with his studies in public classes for some time now.

However, in addition to participating in these classes, he has also been working on mastering a few Intermediate-level spells.

This is Sain's fourth visit to the public library this month.

The one hundred Integral Points he earned from the grade assessment are enough for him to exchange for knowledge on two Intermediate-level spells.

In fact, two of the five magic books given to Sain by his mentor, "Fire Elemental Shaping" and "Encore Annotations", each contain an Intermediate-level spell.

These spells are Hand of Flames and Manipulation Magic.

Hand of Flames is a highly offensive spell that has a larger attack range than the Minor Fireball Spell and can hit targets more precisely.

A huge hand of fire elemental will appear in the chanting of the caster and then fiercely grasp the enemy, also possessing a bit of locking functionality.

Manipulation Magic, on the other hand, is a functional spell that is not primarily used for combat, but rather to help apprentices complete daily chores and experiments with magic.

It can command brooms to sweep rooms, or make beakers float in the air to prepare relevant reagents, among other things.

Therefore, even though Manipulation Magic is not particularly useful in battle, advanced magic apprentices often learn it as a specialty, including official Dark Magicians who frequently display this ability in experiments and public classes.

Sain's primary focus recently has been on mastering Hand of Flames, as he has a mandatory task from the academy that requires him to demonstrate his skills.

He doesn't want to perform any guard or patrol duties within the city and wishes to go outside the city to test his specific abilities as an Intermediate-level apprentice.

Lena has been reviewing the "Encore Annotations," which records the Intermediate-level spell of Manipulation Magic, more frequently in recent times.

Magicians place great importance on knowledge and exclusivity of their craft, so if Mosido, Sain's mentor, were to find out that Sain had shared his magic notes with others, he would likely personally reprimand him.

But it's not like Mosido wouldn't find out, and given Sain and Lena's close relationship, he doesn't believe he's committing any major taboo by sharing one of the magic books his mentor gifted him with Lena.

Just as Lena had previously taught him about the Fireball spell and other magical knowledge, Sain never minded sharing with her when he had something good.

Perhaps it was Sain's personality and consistent behavior that gradually warmed and melted the heart of Lena, the "madwoman," and made them truly become a pair who shared weal and woe.

It wasn't enough for Sain to just master the Intermediate magic of Hand of Flames.

After experiencing multiple battles and having the fortune of witnessing a formal battle between Dark Magicians, Sain felt that it was necessary to learn a defensive magic.

The shortcomings of Magicians in melee combat and Constitution make them vulnerable despite their powerful elemental abilities, especially when they are under close-range attacks or their defense is broken.

Unlike his mentor Mosido, Sain does not have as much magical equipment.

Similarly, as an Intermediate apprentice, Sain does not have enough wealth or knowledge to make any puppet shields.

Therefore, Sain must find another way to provide himself with protection using magic.

"Lena said that most Shield-type spells are spells models that can only be mastered by Advanced or higher apprentices."

"The few lower-level Magic Shields available provide very little protection, but the difficulty of mastery and the consumption of Magic Spring are surprisingly high."

"After all, unlike those attack spells that are released once, Shield spells require apprentices to maintain stable output of Magic Spring."

"The learning value of those few low-level Shield spells is not high, so which magic should I choose to provide myself with some defense?"

Walking between the huge bookshelves on the third floor of the public library, looking at the rows and rows of magic books in front of him, Sain's finger finally stopped on a book with a reddish-brown cover - "Basic Model Construction Explanation of Fire Wall Spell."

Strictly speaking, Fire Wall Spell is a type of attack magic. Its function is to summon a wall of fire and press it forward in battle.

In terms of the coverage of magic, the Fire Wall Spell has a slightly larger range than Hand of Flames, which Sain can roughly control after studying it.

It can barely be considered a ranged attack magic.

However, in terms of specific lethality and pinpoint attack ability, it is not only inferior to Hand of Flames, but even a little worse than Sain's own enhanced version of Minor Fireball Spell.

From this, it can also be seen that the few magic books that Sain's mentor, Mosido, gave him are all carefully considered and of great value.

Similarly, both are Intermediate-level magic, but in terms of value, Hand of Flames is worth at least twice as much as the Fire Wall Spell offered in the public library.

After careful consideration, Sain still chose to exchange for the Fire Wall Spell.

Not for any other reason, but simply because in certain situations, the Fire Wall Spell can be used as a defensive magic to block attacks from a certain direction for Sain.

Moreover, whether it is the difficulty of constructing the spell model or the consumption of Mental Power and Magic Spring values, the Fire Wall Spell is within Sain's acceptable range.
