In the end it was only a week later that Di Tou once again went shopping again. With an absolutely exhausted look on his face, and frazzled hair, Di Tou walked up to a street vendor and purchased two pieces of flatbread before going to another vendor nearby and buying… a large slice of ham that he clamped between the two pieces of bread to eat.
The ham was a bit dry, especially when paired with the bread, but the slightly sweet flavor that came from smoking, alongside the underlying mouthwatering saltiness, made it a good pair to the plain flatbread. It wasn't a rare delicacy, but it was indeed fairly luxerious for day to day eating for those who regularly came to stalls to claim their meals. All in all, it could be considered a huge lifestyle upgrade compared to how he had been eating the month before!
