This was the feeling of Void Returning. Cultivating up until the Nascent Soul Stage, although it wasn't exactly in line with the intentions of the Heavens, it wasn't defying it either. As long as one was able to pass tribulations and prove their strength, the Heavens would leave you a way out.
But the Void Returning stage was beyond the Heavens. It was like you had sneaked out and gotten a tattoo! Although the Heavens wouldn't outright smite you if they found out, you wouldn't be able to escape without getting an earful each time. So, bit by bit, the cultivator would drift away from the Heavens and become more obscure.
