Chereads / Espionage Despair / Chapter 4 - Hans Richards

Chapter 4 - Hans Richards

The car ride between the two was silent. And honestly, it was what they needed. Clayton wanted to speak, but feared it would be too much for his wife to handle. He watched as she fiddled with the handbag that would've been taken with her to work. But she couldn't. She didn't want to say it, but Clayton knew she could even be bothered with work. She just needed time. As they ate breakfast, Clayton took the time to explain everything to her boss, so she had multiple days off to grieve, but her last words before he went up stairs, still shocked him. "Get her." How was he going to? She's an assassin, and a very damn good one. She wasn't going to get worse, because of their grieving. And she definitely didn't waste over a hundred years of her life just for some 'justice'.'

"Yaz, I...." He held his breath before speaking. Even if he wanted his daughter back, there was no absolute way they would get what they wanted. With every step, it could be a means to an end. "Just because we want revenge, doesn't mean we're gonna get it. We could be working for nothing. Are you… okay with that?" Yasmine still refused to meet his gaze. Was she upset? How did she feel? It was her daughter too, after all.

"Trust me, it won't be for nothing." It was silent, but the sound of her whispering made waves in the car. It WON'T be for nothing. How? There was a huge possibility that they were just chasing the unchaseable and there's nothing they could lose? Clayton chose silence over arguing, god knows if anyone had the right to be mad, it was her. She knew nothing about espionage, but still lost her child in the crossfire between him and her. It wasn't fair. As he sighed, he felt the slight vibration of his phone. He quickly pulls out his device quickly getting a glance of what it had said.

Nate: Hey!

Nate: Swing by my place!

Nate: I have something important to tell you!

"Well he seems excited." Yasmine's voice cracked as she spoke about the obnoxious man. But something about her words was different. He looked to his side, only to see his wife's teasing face. He realized what she meant.

"Yaz, no." Clayton took his hands off the wheel for a quick second before realizing he needed it there. "Sweetheart, he's just a friend." The thought of him and Nathan caused his skin to casually fill up with goosebumps. Was it that obvious? He knew Nathan liked him, but was it really that blatant? Still, he wouldn't be able with Nathan right now anyways. He had an interview, and there was nothing that could stop it. Kingly Mavis. A seventeen year old juvenile that went terrible after his friend's death. It was hard to schedule a meeting with the kid, so skipping out on it was terrible. Yasmine came to the same conclusion as he continued to drive forward.

It only took a while to get to the center. Clayton watched as a multitude of guards hung out in the front smoking, drinking, and playing whatever game they thought would keep them entertained. He looked at each of the guards. The first guard sat lower than the rest of the group; his hair and beard was peppered black and white. His eyes were a blue that would be absolutely beautiful, if it wasn't for the fact that his eyes were completely glossed over with the redness of smoking. The guy beside him didn't seem so bad, just couldn't pull off his clothes to save his life. The clothing on him looked baggy as he tried to pull off some sort of intimidation tactic on the other. There were plenty of others, but none took his eyes as much as they did. They looked like the leaders of their group. They talked the loudest, and ran the game. They seemed… not right. Still, the young detective swallowed his uneasy feeling and headed inside.
