"Ma'am?"
"What's the plan, Hudson?"
Cassandra whispered softly through the mouthpiece. She peeked over her shoulder to see her husband fast asleep in their bed. She had been unable to sleep like her husband since earlier as she waited for the latest news from Hudson.
"They were caught in a storm. The universe seems to support your plan."
"Great. So they really got caught in a storm without a generator?"
"I've cut the cord and hidden all the flashlights in the house. Now they depend entirely on the fire for warmth."
"That's great, Hudson. They will work together to survive."
"But I haven't seen smoke from the chimney since just now. Even though it's been two hours since the power went out and it's getting very cold around here."
"Haven't you seen the smoke?"
Suddenly Cassandra exclaimed happily and jumped off her bed. She cheered so loudly that her husband, who was fast asleep, woke up with a start at the sound of her voice.
