Chapter 6 - THE WOMAN IN THE GENERAL'S MIND (SIX)

"Like I told you before. Your body is getting immune to the serum. And it was faster than I thought. Two months ago you still had about two weeks before your body became immune to those serums. And now it's been almost a week. I know you are different from the others, General."

Doctor Bryce had a regretful look on his face. He could see the nervousness on General Colten's face behind the cold expression he made. But all of this really can't be prevented. General Colten's body always regenerates cells quickly. Something his uncle injected him when he was five years old protected him from exposure to harmful substances during the genocidal war. But it also made his body unable to accept the serums he made for his body.

"You still haven't managed to figure out what formula my uncle injected me with?"

"I think it was Pete's best masterpiece. He managed to create a serum to heal everyone back then. Unfortunately he didn't have time to develop it because his laboratory was destroyed by a group of masked men that day. All the formulas for the formula were destroyed. Only you are left of his masterpiece. But Pete was never able to make that formula again, despite years of research using your blood."

General Colten subconsciously rubbed the scar on his wrist which was a memento of his crazy uncle. He almost bled to death at that time because his uncle kept taking his blood to use as an object of research. The skin lining his veins was torn and left an ugly scar because his uncle sliced him too many times with a scalpel.

"Is there no other way to slow down the side effects of your serum on my body? I can't have to come to your lab again and again, when I have a lot of work out there."

"The serum will affect the quality of your sperm if you don't upgrade it. As we know that an average man can only fertilize ten women based on the compatibility between sperm and egg. That is if it is done naturally. But you are against the natural nature established by the universe. You forced your sperm to match all the remaining women from the war years ago. You have fertilized two hundred women. And you still have a hundred-plus others. Without the help of that serum, your sperm won't work its magic and give birth to a baby."

Doctor Bryce watched General Colten's jaw tighten. He had said from the start that his plan to create a new colony based on his pure genes was a crazy plan. But General Colten insisted on doing it because he wanted the future to have a better civilization than the past. He will save the future of the bad guys by preventing the mixing of bad genes in the pregnancy process. In addition, General Colten also wants to strengthen his troops and make his troops the only strongest army on earth. Therefore General Colten ordered him to make serum for his soldiers so that they become like the invincible hulk.

Unfortunately his artificial serum had an effect on their ability to produce offspring. Some men may indeed have lost their function as a man due to radiation and nuclear war, but some others still have their function as a man. Especially the young men born after The Great War ended. But General Colten wants his soldiers to be infertile so that all his soldiers focus on their duty to protect after earth and no soldiers defect because of a woman.

"You've been making increasingly unreasonable decisions lately. If the Centurions found out about this matter, they could cause more chaos."

"Then don't let anyone know. It's just a secret between the two of us, isn't it, doc?"

Doctor Bryce nodded slowly. He couldn't go against General Colten's wish because he also wanted peace for After Earth's life. Unfortunately there were some things he didn't agree with about the method applied by General Colten. They had exceeded the limit the universe allowed them to do.

"It is only a matter of time until they find out the truth. They are now too focused on their accusations of you, that you exploit women to become your sex slaves. In fact you also castrated the remaining men to become a formidable soldier."

"Let them speculate. I'm getting closer to my goal. There have been a hundred babies born. When they are two years old, I will start training them to become tough and strong humans. Now I'm clearing new land around Ballard and land around Willamette Valley. In the near future I will create a new farming system there. And releasing a thousand cows and sheep into the pasture with the artificial weather and climate we have developed this past year."

This is the reason why doctor Bryce remained loyal to General Colten even though the general made many changes that violated the rules of the universe. All projects carried out by General Colten are progressing well. Almost all of his projects have had satisfactory results. Two years from now, the people living behind the solid walls of the White Wall could inhabit a third of the earth that was once heavily damaged by the great war.

"Pleased to hear it. You move very fast, general."

"Must do it quickly before some nosy people trip me up."

General Colten gazed out the window in Doctor Bryce's study which had a very beautiful view of the garden. Everything he had done so far had enormous consequences. Even sacrifice. But all his sacrifices did not hurt him at all. Now he could enjoy the fresh, clean air, the warm sunshine around him, and the trees so green. There are no more gruesome sights like before. Thick black smoke everywhere. The sun was shining too hot because the trees were destroyed by being bombarded with nuclear bombs. Polluted water sources. Humans are starving and dying all over the place by the sidewalks.

General Colten blinked once, dispelling the traumatic image that still lingered in the deepest part of his brain. Until whenever it will be his worst nightmare that will never stop haunting his life.

"So you're going to inject the serum now?"

"Yes. Lie down. I will get the serum you need."

General Colten moved into another room beside Doctor Bryce's office. He stared at the special bed that had only been used by him all this time. He looked at the bed. Everything is white. A white bed, white blankets, white pillows, an IV pole, a set of white sofas by the window overlooking the beautiful garden. This place was a vvip room for a general, but he never liked being in this place. No matter how good the interior, this place is still a treatment room for treating the sick.

He remembered the sad days when he was made as a guinea pig by his own uncle. He almost had to be in a room like this every day. But in a uglier and narrower version because his uncle's office and laboratory are underground. His parents couldn't help him because his uncle had logical reasons about the drugs he was developing for the benefit of mankind. His uncle used to do the experiment secretly. Great people with power and a lot of money are looking for his uncle to make them genocidal weapons that are very lethal to kill their enemies. Meanwhile he could only lay helpless on the bed with a needle stuck in the back of his hand without being able to do anything to save the world.

"What are you looking at?"

"Everything ready?"

"I thought you were lying down. What are you worried about? Who is the woman you brought today?"

"One of the Centurion women who was about to defect. I caught her before she managed to escape."

General Colten took off his shoes and placed them neatly under the bed. He lay stiffly and had rolled up his sleeves up to his elbows. Suddenly he thought of Clio. The needle prick in his vein no longer hurt. His body was numb to things like syringes. Now he was thinking about Clio instead. The innocent look in her eyes when he found her in the underground tunnel had bewitching him for a moment. Never had a woman looked at him the way Clio did to him. He was used to getting looks of hatred or gazes of admiration. No one had ever looked at him with the innocent, grateful gaze that Clio did.

But it lasted very short, dude.

Something in his head mocked him. Clio looked at him like that because she didn't know who he really was. And after Clio found out, the look in her eyes changed to a look of hatred. General Colten let out an exasperated breath and chased Clio's image out of his head. This woman is just like the others. She would just be the mother to his baby, and then he would throw her away once she was no longer needed here.
