There was a very long silence and then Camilla said,
"Yes, she is Rachael."
I tried my best to ignore them and went away. The next day as I walked down the hall to the library I heard some voices and I immediately recognized them except for one which I assumed was their fifth.
"Did you really ask her?" The voice asked.
"Yes!" Bunny said in excitement.
"Whose idea was it to ask her?" Henry asked.
"Mine," Camilla said.
" Can you describe her for me?" the voice asked again.
"She had brown curly hair, fair skin, lovely smile." complimented Bunny.
"Oh and she had gray eyes," said Charles.
"No, they were blue."said Charles.
I whizzed past them and went into the library. As I got inundated in the books, I heard a loud bang on my table . I looked up and saw Bunny
"Hello, me ….. again!" he said
" Yes,...I remember you blandly...Edward Corcoran. The one with blond hair and a tweed jacket."
"You've probably forgotten that I'm Edmund Corcoran."
"My apologies, but it's not like your name is.....that special. Don't maneuver yourself, young man. Who's the redhead?" He looked taken aback but kept grinning and said
"You must've seen him around, say hello to Francis Abernathy, we would love to study with you."
"We? Who and who?" I asked.
"All of us, you know a genius like you should have people like us on your side. We'd love to hang out with you." Bunny said
"Love to, but can't." I said packing my books.
"Don't you have free time? We know each other, and....we have to work together to bring Hamilton college to its knees."
"Don't I bother you?" I looked up at him, and asked.
"Absolutely not."
"Alright, just for today, but I have rules." They both left and brought the others with them.
We ended up staying up late studying ancient Greek. For the following days, we met after school to study in the library.
One evening , on my way home, Bunny caught up to me.
"I just came to tell you that you shouldn't be late. Tomorrow's the big day."
I nodded my head, and replied.
"I won't. Bye now."
***********
When I got to my room I stared at my grandaunt's picture and thought,
' Old aunt Tabitha , were you always looking out for me? I already have what you wanted me to have.... friends. After the competition I'd love to neutralize your neutralizer and make you happy, cos you'd do that for me, won't you ? I love you ,old Tabitha.'
The next morning I'd made myself PB and J sandwiches with hot yogurt. I'd put on a strawberry dress , pink overcoat and a cute ponytail. I was more than ready to rock the competition.
When I reached the school, the alleviators were already setting the stage and I went to the athenaeum to flip over some Greek books when I heard Henry say,
"Bonjour, how was your night?"
(Morning)
"Aurore, tendue.... sans se presser." I answered. (Morning?! long..... composedly.)
" Really..~ Great at French, aren't you?" he asked.
" Certainement," I said, smirking.
(Certainly)
"The competition is about to start, let's go,"said Camilla.
"Desir de luxe production," Henry added. (Desire committed production).
We all smiled at his statement, and went towards the hall to take our seats.
A female host climbed up the stage and said,
" Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, students and parents, scholars and teachers today is our second annual Greek competition between Hampden and Hamilton colleges."
The crowd roared with applause and the principal continued,
" I am your host today , Mrs June, the vice chancellor of Hamilton college. I now present the Greek scholars, Henry Winter, Edmund Corcoran, Charles and Camilla Macaulay , Francis Abernathy and lastly…Rachael Rodriguez!"
The crowd cheered as we all climbed up the stage, and sat behind the desk meant for us.
"From Hamilton college , we have Richard Pepin, Patrick Star, Elena and Susan Lerron, Sharron and Jenna Raven.
Ladies and gentlemen pull up your socks, fasten your seatbelts and take a deep breath.
Let the Controversy..... begin!!!!!"
We went through jousts and jousts and jousts, until Charles made a mistake and said the wrong answer without thinking, and the principal announced that if Hamilton college should get the last questions they'd win. The competition was hot. We were so good at Greek that they decided to add more languages to the questions.
All the way , I just answered one question, and allowed the rest to speak. We were a group, and I didn't want to overshadow them with my halo, and intelligence. My teammates weren't that good at other languages. But…they were awesome!
"You have to translate the meaning of afternoon in Spanish." The Spanish teacher said, shifting his spectacles.
The boy named Richard whispered something to them all and they whispered back to him. It seems they came up with an agreement, and the boy stood up. He said,
"Période après 12 heures et avant le coucher du soleil."
The judge ringed the bell and said
"Bonus to Hampden scholars."
Henry got up after discussing with us all and said ,
" Periodo posterior a las 12 horas y antes de la puesta del sol."
"That is correct! For those of us who do not know the meaning, It means period after 12 noon and before sunset. Hampden college wins. You might be wondering why. Hamilton college's scholars were asked to speak Spanish, but they spoke French.
Congratulations Hampden college, you won!!" The judge announced.
