Chapter 81 - Bewilderment

Devilin's grin faded, replaced by a look of genuine concern. He extended a hand toward Casey, offering her support. She took it, and he led her away from the epicentre of their magical battle to a dimly lit alcove. The air was heavy with secrets here, and Casey couldn't help but feel a sense of reverence.

With a graceful wave of his hand, Devilin conjured a globe of shadows that hung in the air between them. It was like a swirling, iridescent dream, shifting and changing as though it had a life of its own. Casey couldn't tear her eyes away.

"Watch closely," Devilin urged, his voice a soft, soothing melody.

Casey did as she was told, her gaze locked on the shadowy sphere. It seemed to beckon to her, inviting her to join in its dance. Devilin's fingers moved in a delicate, intricate pattern, and the shadows responded, transforming into elegant, fluid shapes.

"Magic," he began, his voice low and filled with reverence, " involves intricate movements, much like the tango of light and shadows you just witnessed. It's about understanding the ebb and flow, the push and pull, and finding harmony within it."

Casey nodded, her eyes never leaving the mesmerizing display before her. She felt a longing deep within her, a desire to become a part of this dance, to understand it on a profound level.

But as she extended her trembling hand toward the shadowy globe, the shadows recoiled, twisting into a chaotic mess. Panic surged through Casey's veins, and she pulled her hand back as if she had touched fire. Her fear threatened to consume her.

Devilin's calm presence anchored her, his hand on her shoulder like a lifeline. "It's alright," he assured her, his voice a gentle whisper. "Failure is a part of growth."

As Casey continued to practice the intricate dance of magic under Devilin's guidance, there came a moment when her control wavered. It happened during a particularly complex incantation, as she attempted to manipulate the shadows into a delicate, swirling pattern.

Her concentration wavered, and the shadows seemed to rebel against her, twisting and contorting in a chaotic frenzy. Panic surged through her, and she stumbled backwards, gasping for breath. The room's once-harmonious symphony of magic turned dissonant, the shadows swirling erratically like a storm.

Devilin was there in an instant, his presence unwavering. He raised his hands, and a wave of calm energy rippled through the room, gradually taming the frenzied shadows. It was as if his very touch could soothe the wild currents of magic.

Casey's heart pounded in her chest as she regained her composure. Her cheeks were flushed with embarrassment. She had lost control, just as her fear had whispered in her ear. It was a humbling experience, a stark reminder of the vastness and unpredictability of magic.

Devilin's voice was gentle as he spoke. "It's alright, Casey, it's fineeee. Mistakes are a part of the learning process. You shouldn't be too hard on yourself."

He gestured to the swirling shadows, which had now settled into a calm, rhythmic dance once more. "Remember what I told you?" He continued. "Magic is an extension of your will, but it also has a life of its own. It responds to your emotions and to your intentions. When you lost control just now, it was because doubt and fear crept into your heart."

Casey nodded, her gaze fixed on the shadows as if they held the answers she sought. "I understand," she replied, her voice filled with determination. "I won't let fear control me."

Devilin smiled, his eyes reflecting pride in her resilience. "Someone's pumped. Now, let's try that incantation again. But this time, clear your mind, focus on the pattern you want to create, and let your will guide the shadows."

As the hours passed, Casey's connection to the shadows deepened. She began to feel their rhythm, their secrets, and their power. Her movements grew more fluid, and the shadows responded with grace. It was as though they had accepted her into their fold, recognizing her earnest desire to understand.

The room itself seemed to pulse around her, in perfect harmony with her newfound control. The dance of shadows and light intensified, swirling around Casey like a protective cloak. It was a breathtaking sight, one that made her heart swell with both awe and gratitude.

Finally, Casey stepped back, her chest heaving with exhaustion and exhilaration. She looked at Devilin, her eyes shining with conviction. "I won't let fear control me," she declared, her voice steady. "I'll embrace the dance and find my own rhythm within it."

Devlin's smile returned, brighter than ever. "That's the spirit, Casey," he praised, his words like a warm embrace. "With that determination, you will become a force not to be reckoned with, and the shadows will be your ally, not your enemy."

But Casey hungered for more. She sensed that there were deeper secrets, more profound insights that Devilin held within the confines of his wisdom. She met his gaze and asked, "Devilin, any more secret tips for me?"

Casey's eyes sparkled with enthusiasm as she nodded. She was eager to explore the darker and more electrifying aspects of her magic.

Devilin raised his hand, and the room darkened as tendrils of shadow wrapped around his fingers. "First, dark energy," he said. "It's all about control. The trick is to harness its raw power without letting it consume you."

Suddenly a thought struck Casey, "Wait," she looked up at him, "what all type of magic do you know?"

Devilin blinks and lets out a soft chuckle, "I thought you knew!"

"What?"

"I don't have magic of my own, I can copy others" his wrist twisted and a fireball emerged. Next, he snapped and a snowflake illusion appeared. Casey blinked in amusement and as she opened her eyes, he was gone. She looked around and found herself alone in the room, only to hear a knock on the window and Devilin waving from outside In the next blink he was in front of her again.

"Though it consumes a lot of Astralite, so I have to be careful what sort of magic I choose to use."

"That's an amazing power, damn! You are invincible in a battle, for real."

"That's not always the case. I cannot beat the real user of that certain magic, of course, my magic power compared to theirs would be relatively low. That's why we have 'trick shots'." He winks. "Now, watch."

With a flick of his wrist, Devilin released a burst of dark energy that materialized into a swirling vortex of shadows. Casey watched in awe as it swirled and coiled.

"Dark energy can be used for stealth, surprise, and even manipulation," Devilin explained. "But remember, it comes at a cost. It can corrupt if you're not careful. So, the trick is to master it without letting it master you."

Casey nodded, her determination to control this enigmatic force burning brighter than ever. She mimicked Devilin's movements, summoning a controlled burst of dark energy that swirled around her like a protective shroud. She felt how slowly it was slipping away but she tried to hold it a bit more.

Devilin's grin widened. "Guess that was easy for you, Casey. Now, let's move on to something more electrifying."

With a dramatic flourish, Devilin conjured a bolt of lightning that crackled and danced along his fingertips. "Lightning is all about finesse," he explained. "It's the art of wielding raw power with precision."

He demonstrated this by sending lightning darting across the room, illuminating the darkness with its bluish-white brilliance. The air sizzled with energy, and Casey couldn't help but be awed by the sheer intensity of the display.

"Lightning can be used for offence, defence, or even to manipulate the environment," Devilin continued. "The trick is to channel its energy without becoming its victim. You must become one with the storm."

Casey watched closely, her eyes focused on the mesmerizing dance of lightning before her. She could feel its power, its wild energy, and she knew that mastering it would be a formidable challenge.

Devilin turned to her, a playful glint in his eyes. "Now, let's see what you can do, Casey."

As Casey stood there, eager to demonstrate her lightning skills, she channelled her energy into her fingertips, feeling the electrifying power building up within her. With theatrical flair, she released her lightning bolt, aiming for the distant target.

But oh, what a spectacle it turned out to be! Instead of a controlled bolt, her magic surged like an out-of-control roller coaster, producing a cataclysmic display. The lightning arced wildly across the room, not towards the target but in a frantic flurry of its own. It zigzagged and looped, leaving a trail of electrified chaos in its wake.

The room was soon engulfed in a spectacular light show of bluish-white brilliance. Sparks flew in all directions, and the air cracked with uncontrollable energy. It was as if a lightning storm had taken up residence indoors.

Casey, wide-eyed and astonished, could only watch in sheer amazement as her magic spiralled out of control. What was supposed to be a precise demonstration had turned into an electrifying circus act.

As the unbridled lightning created havoc in the room, Devilin's jaw dropped, and his eyes widened in sheer disbelief. He hadn't expected this level of spectacle, even from Casey.

The door to the room burst open, and a group of startled mates came running. Their faces are a mixture of shock and bewilderment.

"What is the name of all things magical that just transpired here?" Aria exclaimed, nearly tripping over a chair that had been sent flying.

Merl pointed to the chaotic flashes of lightning. "Is Casey summoning a storm indoors?"

Casey tried to maintain her composure, though her face was flushed with embarrassment. "Hehe."

They all chimed together almost sarcastically annoyingly, "What 'hehe'?"
