Elena watched as Mr. Dillion's car disappeared down the street, her heart heavy with worry. He had come to visit her parents as he promised, but he never mentioned anything about marriage. She couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.
She walked back into her house, and her parents were waiting for her. "So, what did he say?" her mother asked, a kind of hopeful look on her face.
Elena hesitated, unsure of what to say. Was she thinking about something? She asked within and replied "He said he just wanted to come and meet you both, to get to know you better."
Her father's face darkened. "That's it? He came all this way just to introduce himself? I don't buy it."
Elena could feel the weight of their suspicion bearing down on her. "I don't know, maybe he was just nervous or something."
But her parents weren't convinced. They peppered her with questions, trying to get to the bottom of what had really happened. "Did he talk to you about marriage?" her mother asked.
