It is a bright day, but Bella can see dark clouds looming over her. She is feeling dizzy from last night's alcohol and the activity of moving her belongings from the fourth floor to the first floor. And when she sat down at her new desk to unwind, Bella was reminded of her craziness in Justin's room.
"How could I have done something like that? So embarrassing!" Bella tugged at her hair and then covered her face. "I must be crazy."
Three knocks were heard on the door, bringing Bella out of her gloom. She looked up and saw a man entering her room.
The man was not too young, nor too old. His skin was white, and he had a handsome Asian face. His hair was slightly long and neatly arranged.
"Why is there a Korean idol here?" Bella murmured.
The man walked towards her, greeting her with a slight bow. "Good morning, Ma'am. I'm Park Jimin, and I'm assigned to assist you with your work."
"Jimin? His name sounds like a Korean artist," Bella murmured again. "Were you an idol before becoming an investigator here?" Bella asked, jokingly.
Jimin smiled. "I couldn't be here if I had already debuted as an idol."
"Ah, that's right," Bella replied, fixing her hair. "By the way, don't speak formally to me. It makes me uncomfortable. Also, don't call me 'Ma'am.' I'm not married, and I'm still young. Okay?"
"Okay... Bella." Jimin seemed hesitant to say her name.
Bella nodded. "Yes, that sounds good. So, what cases will we be handling?"
Jimin hurriedly took a cart filled with piles of documents. Bella swallowed her saliva. She was quite surprised by the gift Jimin had given her.
"Wow, is there that much backlog work?" Bella asked.
"Yes. That's right. There are so many cases of crime happening lately," Jimin said.
Bella took some documents from the first stack and read them a little. She then moved on to the next case files. Bella's body aura gradually turned dark.
The cases she had in her hands now were far from what she had expected. Bella thought she would handle major crimes such as murder, robbery, or mafia cases. In reality, she only got low-level criminal cases such as motorbike and car thefts and other street crime cases.
Bella threw the files on the table. She got up from her seat and said, "I need some fresh air."
Bella went up to the roof of the building. She stood there and looked around. After a while, Bella realized there were several tall buildings that stood out in the city. Buildings marked with a pair of sharp eyes as their logo, Eagle Eyes.
She also noticed a tall building with the sign "Eagle Wings" on the right side. It was quite far from her office, but she could still see the big logo displayed on the roof.
"Ah, damn it! How am I going to face him later?"
When the feeling of embarrassment struck again, Bella's phone rang. It seemed like Justin knew she was thinking about him. Bella was reluctant to answer Justin's call. She put her phone away after letting the ringtone go silent.
Bella remembered her conversation with Justin last night, about the disappearance of former Oximell employees and the death of some of them. She then returned to her workspace and went through the files that Jimin had given her earlier, confusing Jimin with her behavior.
"What are you looking for?" asked Jimin.
"Nothing. I'm just sorting through all these files. We have a lot of work that needs to be done soon. I don't want to waste any more time. Can you help me?" asked Bella.
"Sure," Jimin replied enthusiastically.
Meanwhile, far from the CatWell district attorney's office, Justin stood in his workspace. He pondered for quite some time while looking at Bella's workplace. Occasionally, Justin checked his phone, hoping Bella would return his call. However, his hope was in vain.
Justin had met many types of women before. Many of them were eager to receive his call, and none of them would waste the opportunity to go on a date with him. The heir to a multinational company with wealth that would never run out for seven generations, and a dream of women, seemed meaningless to Bella.
"Did I pay her to ignore me?" Justin asked angrily, staring at his phone.
The next moment, Justin's phone screen started flashing. Steven was calling. Justin sighed.
"What's up?" Justin asked Steven.
"This afternoon, I will hold a press conference to announce my candidacy for CatWell mayor. Come!"
"Sorry, I have an important meeting."
"You've caused enough trouble at Emily's birthday party. Should I make you lose investors?" Steven threatened.
Justin gritted his teeth. "What time?"
"Three-thirty, at the Eagle Hotel. Bring your girlfriend too!"
"Is that necessary?" Justin looked for an excuse.
"I'm not making an offer."
The phone call ended. Steven must have planned something that was not on the press conference agenda. He might use Bella to gain public support.
Bella finished her first trial. Although it was a minor case, she felt tired. The debate between the thief - who was none other than the victim's brother - and the victim's husband had been ongoing since the trial began. The judge had to suspend the trial several times to calm the situation.
Under the tree, Bella sat alone. She looked at the sunlight passing through the leaves. It was a hot day. Bella used the brown envelope containing the next trial's files as a fan.
Jimin came over carrying two cans of cold drinks. He handed one to Bella and asked, "Ready for the next trial?"
Bella pulled the lid off the can. "Not yet," she replied, then took a sip of the drink.
"There are still three trials left, right? You can handle them all well, just like before. You're a great prosecutor."
Bella laughed ironically. Jimin's comment sounded like a taunt to her. She should be busy investigating big cases now. Not dealing with petty criminal cases.
Well, Bella admitted that Ludwig had managed to lock her in the trial room for the next few days. Just thinking about it was already boring. Bella had to find a way to breathe again.
"I'm not that good. I just read what's written in the demand file."
"Oh. The next case might be more exhausting," Jimin said.
Bella looked at him for a moment, then opened the brown envelope in her hand. "Violence and disturbance."
“Owner of the club is suing him for the damage caused to several furniture. The problem is that the perpetrator does not want to settle because the club owner has been violent towards him.”
"Yes, but wasn't it just one punch?"
"Yes, one hard punch that broke the troublemaker's teeth. So, he is also asking for compensation, but the club owner refuses. Both of them are equally stubborn. This is the third hearing of the case, but there is no clear solution to it yet," Jimin explained.
Bella finished rereading the case and smiled thinly. While organizing the documents, she asked, "Has the troublemaker arrived?"
"Just a moment, let me ask," said Jimin. He called someone and then said, "He's waiting in the lobby."
"Bring him to my office!"
"Okay."
Bella walked towards her workspace. She wanted to see how stubborn the troublemaker was.
The meeting between Bella and the troublemaker lasted for a few minutes in private. The hearing was then held. Bella sat confidently in her place. Occasionally, she looked at the suspect and smiled sweetly. The suspect behaved similarly.
A man sat next to her. Bella turned her chair towards the man. She reached out her hand and introduced herself.
Unfortunately, Bella's handshake did not receive a response. Bella looked up and was surprised instantly. She had seen the man sitting near her before. He was the man who had stared at her at Emily's birthday party. A man with thick black hair, thick eyebrows, and a firm gaze.
The man turned to her, only briefly, before lowering his butt to the chair.
"Seems like we've met before?" Bella asked.
"Can you just focus on this hearing? I want this case to be over quickly," said the man.
Bella kept her manners to herself. "Okay."
The hearing ended in no more than thirty minutes. The surprising thing was the suspect's cooperative attitude. There was no objection or refusal for compensation like before. It made everyone wonder, including Bella's client.
Nevertheless, the client remained indifferent. There was no sense of curiosity. He left the hearing room just like that after saying thank you.
To be honest, Bella was a little bit upset. She chased after the man.
"Wait!" Bella shouted.
The man stopped at the third step.
"Sorry, but can we talk for a minute?" Bella asked.
The man looked at his watch.
"It won't take long," Bella said again as she approached the man.
The man stood still, waiting for Bella's question.
"Um, sorry. I do not mean anything. I just want to ask you something. At Emily's party, I saw you staring at me for quite some time. Have we met before?" Bella asked curiously.
"No. The reason I stared at you that night was that I didn't like seeing you with my bestfriend," he replied.
"Oh, so, you are Justin's bestfriend?" Bella asked. "May I know why you don't like me?"
"My instinct tells me that you will drag him into trouble. And it was proven on the first day you declared your relationship as a couple. My advice, break up with him, or the problem will get worse!"
The man left after making Bella realize something. Yes, she was not wrong. Bella was the one who made Justin point a gun at Jofran. The fact she forgot was that Jofran was Steven's business partner.
Oh, God. Bella forgot something. The incident clearly had an impact on their business relationship.
Is Justin's company okay?
