Time passed and the day of the trip arrived. The students of the graduating class of 1990 Butler High School, who could afford it and were eligible to go on the trip, gathered at the airport to meet up with the trip chaperone, Mrs. Jones, and her adult help. The class consisted of 660 members in total and 530 were eligible and able to go. There were 26 adults going on the trip, mostly married couples in need of a honeymoon. Parents and students said their goodbyes, then the students boarded the plane. The plane trip was long and filled with anxiety and excitement. Soon, however, the plane was taxiing down the runway on the beautiful island of Barbados. They got their luggage and got into buses to go to the hotel they were going to stay in.
The island was magnificent with its bright sun-drenched buildings and perfect touches of shade. The trees and flowers were gorgeous and filled the area with the aroma of relaxation. The beaches were white and clean, bordered by the green-blue Caribbean Sea to the west and flowing, strong waves from the Atlantic on the east coast. The mild blissful breeze filled the air with sea and flowers.
They traveled over paved roads to the hotel Waverley in Rockley, a few miles from Bridgetown, Barbados' capital. It was splendidly interesting architecturally with its West Indian style and fabulous landscaping. The buses pulled up to the front of the hotel and everyone got out. They picked up the keys to their rooms and went up to clean up and came back down an hour later for the trip planner's meeting.
Mrs. Jones met with the representative of the sponsoring business, Mrs. Lehman Wilcox. Mrs. Wilcox gave Mrs. Jones the itinerary for the trip and told her of some of the events that would be going on while the group was there. The trip was during the Easter season so Mrs. Wilcox set up time for the students to see the Oistins Fish Festival, a time when fishermen demonstrate fish-boning, boat racing, and crab racing. There would be steel band music and fireworks. She felt that the festival would be an enjoyable sight. The group was gathered in a conference room downstairs in the hotel.
"Students..." Mrs. Jones started, "I first want to say, I am proud that you were able to meet all the requirements necessary to come to this beautiful Island. It is not easy to keep a high average, stay out of trouble, and keep up your attendance. This is Butler's largest graduating class ever and I am proud of you." She received a round of applause, and then she continued. "Now, you are not children and your parents have sent you here because they trust you, so I don't need to give you a speech on being on your best behavior." Laughter rang out. "Let me continue. You were given a greeting package with information about the island and how to get around on the island. Be sure you go through it. You will be given a schedule and assigned a chaperone." That statement brought groans. "Now you knew you weren't going to be able to run around free. Your chaperones aren't there to hinder you from having fun but to make sure you are safe. All I have left to say is, have fun, be safe, and do right." With that Mrs. Jones left the stage and turned the meeting over to the sponsoring company's representative.
"Hello, my name is Mrs. Wilcox." She began with a heavily accented rich voice. "We have set up a great trip for you and I hope you enjoy it. The first part of the day is yours to explore, relax, or whatever you decide. Don't be late tonight though as we will be partying until sunset. Surprises are around every corner and fun is here. So without any more talk I will let you go on your way. Have a great week!" The group gave her an applause and then they were dismissed. Lora, Tracy, and Denise went back up to their room.
"Isn't Mrs. Jones great!?" Denise observed.
"Yeah, Great. I wonder who our chaperone is going to be." Tracy inquired.
"Who cares? We are here to have fun." Lora replied. They hung out in the room for a while. There was a knock at the door. Tracy went to answer it.
"Hi ladies, my name is Myena. I am to be your chaperone and hostess. I was told to room with you so where will I be?" No one answered at first because she wasn't what they expected. Myena could not have been much older than they were.
Tracy finally spoke up. " I guess you will be bunking with me." Tracy grabbed Myena's bags and put them on her side of the room. Tracy just had to ask, " Excuse me, but how old are you?"
Myena laughed. "I knew you were going to ask me that. I am 22. I go to college here. Your sponsor felt you would be more comfortable with younger chaperones. Even the couples that traveled with you are going to be able to enjoy the island. Every room has a college student residing in them. I thought it was a great idea. I wish we had this kind of opportunity when I was your age. Our senior trip was to Florida from Mississippi. I guess that was O.K." Myena was a great looking lady. She seemed like someone who liked having fun. Myena was tall, slender, and medium toned with a bubbly personality. She fit in perfectly with the group.
"Well, are you ready for the party tonight?" Myena asked.
"We are getting our stuff together now." Denise replied.
"You don't want to go anywhere before the party? I mean we could go shopping and buy something to wear." Myena suggested.
At that suggestion, the girls agreed. They gathered their purses and went on their way. They caught a cab to Bridgetown. The ride to Bridgetown was spectacular. They were able to see the water on one side and the Rockley Golf course on the other. They were quickly at the shopping plaza on Broad Street and were surprised to find that the prices were 30 to 50 percent less than those in the states. They brought several little skin-tight dresses that would have been better-called shirts for what they covered. Then they bought 3-inch heels and then to a salon to get their hair and nails done. Since they still had time, Myena decided they should tour Bridgetown or at least ride the tour bus around the city to figure out what they wanted to do the next day. They got on the tour bus and listened while the tour guide told them about the sights. The tour guide paid extra attention to Lora making sure she noticed all the specialties of each spot.
"You have an admirer." Tracy pointed out
"What?" Lora asked as if she hadn't noticed.
"You know you are being flirted with now don't you." Denise commented.
"You are both being silly. Let's just enjoy the tour." They finished the tour and then went to a museum. Lora gave the guide a playful wink and they got off the bus laughing. They went looking around the museum and Lora spotted the tour guide behind them. She didn't say anything but just turned around quickly. When she looked around again, she didn't see him. She decided to let it go. They left the museum and went back to the hotel. When they got there they went straight up to their room and got dressed for the party.
"I am so glad I don't have Michael tagging along." Lora stated. "If he wasn't being such a douche, he might have been here and had my attention."
"Yeah, you couldn't have flirted with that cute tour guide if he was here." Tracy teased.
"Well, he is cute, but I was not flirting." Lora pointed out firmly.
"Excuse me, girl, but if you could have shown him any more leg, he would have been looking way too much. If you know what I mean." Myena threw in.
"Ah ha, see, I am not the only one who noticed." Tracy continued to play.
"Oh, leave her alone, Tracy." Denise said coming to Lora's aid." We came here to have fun."
"Yeah, my mom is at home and I came here to have fun and party. No mom, No Rules." Lora said.
"O really. Well, that's fine as long as I don't have to go searching for you, worry, or make me lose my job. Besides, if you act responsibly then I can go see my boyfriend. He is one of the guys working as a chaperone." Myena stated.
"Oh, now we get some juice about Myena. What's his name and when can we meet him?" Tracy asked.
"That's none of your business." Myena replied.
"Holdup. You can't hang with us if you are not willing to dish. We share everything."
"O.K. his name is Cleon. I only took this job because he did. I really would like to hang out with him."
When they got downstairs, the party had already started. People were dancing, drinking punch, and just having a big-time fun. The girls split up and worked the room. They flirted with everyone that crossed their path. and did not care if the guy had a girlfriend with them. Myena found Cleon and introduced him to the girls when they met up at the punch table.
"Hey girls. This is Cleon. My love." Myena introduced him with a big smile.
"Wow. He is cute. Do you have a brother?" Tracy teasingly asked.
"Nice to meet you. Don't mind her." Denise butted in. "You go and enjoy yourself."
Cleon was definitely a sexy guy. He was tall, dark, and built like a bodybuilder. Myena and Cleon went down to the beach to be alone and the girls went back to partying.
Lora wanted to be the center of attention and put on a good show. After all, she was the shortest of her friends, and with the large open-front dress showing off her bountiful breasts, she got exactly what she wanted. Her top-heavy frame was built perfectly for dancing and admiring. Michael walked into the dance with two of the town sluts. Lora saw him and annoyance grew in her mind. How dare he come here and whore around with anyone else? He has no scruples! She didn't think anyone noticed how she was feeling. She went on flirting and trying to make Michael jealous. She couldn't believe she was acting that way. Lora was kissing, dancing, and rubbing her body on many of the guys at the party. She knew it was foolish and besides that it wasn't working. Michael just kept right on with his friends. He finally gave notice to her and walked over to her and grabbed her arm. "Why are you acting so sluttish?" Michael asked. "My girl is not a slut and shouldn't act like one."
"Excuse me but I am not your girl, so let go of me!" Lora exclaimed as she wrenched her arm away. "Remember you broke up with me. I can dance with whomever I want and however I want." With that, Lora walked away.
"Guess what? You will always be my girl. No matter who you go with, you will come back to me." Michael yelled after her. He walked back over to his friends and went back to partying. He couldn't help watching her leave the party and feeling a sense of satisfaction for messing up her fun.
Lora just kept walking out toward the beach. How dare he interrupt her fun! She was still frustrated because she acted so silly. Why would she be concerned about Michael being jealous of her? She just decided to dance with another guy. She was kissing the guy, rubbing them and allowing them to rub on her. She wanted anyone who was looking to think she was having a good time. It was fun but she still felt silly. Micheal was not worth her letting those guys feel on her. She sat on the beach and watched the waves.
