RHYANHEIM, AN ISLAND NATION POPULATED BY FAIR SKINNED BEINGS THAT CALL THEMSELVES ARYA. IT IS PLAGUED BY WICKED CREATURES THAT EAT FATE, THE SEITEME, CREATURES THAT APPEAR AS ORDINARY PEOPLE BUT REVEAL THEMSELVES TO BE UGLY ABOMINATIONS WEILDING EVIL POWERS.
ONLY A CHOSEN FEW ARE ABLE TO FIGHT AGAINST THEM, SPECIAL BEINGS CHOSEN BY GOD. THE DIVINERS.
EMILIA VIRAGO IS THE LAST DIVINER. WILL SHE BE ABLE TO END THE PLAGUE...
Standing in place of Brynner is a half transparent Emilia, only, her short blond hair is now falling upwards while emitting a soft yellow white glow a ghostlike figure standing firm on two feet that are completely invisible and holding out hands turning invisible after having come in contact with the red energy beam sent out towards Brynner.
When Brynner looked up at Emilia, partly still surprised that he was still breathing he was left in awe when he noticed that from behind her ghostlike appearance he could see a bright yellow glowing symbol stretched over her back.
"I can't do anything against normal soldiers but, against your kind?" Emilia's new echoing voice made Brynner realize that the spectral figure in front him was still Emilia. The echoing voice that sounded as if it came from his head held a sense of anger and sorrow and looking at the creature that had appeared where the knight he had just been fight with was it was easy to discern that things were already past the point where he could be of use.
The Knight, Heffner Varese had also made a transformation, his armor was the only thing unchanged but his being had become completely submerged under a dense shadow. It had no eyes, only a dark red symbol on its forehead. It swung its arm as if throwing something at Annika who was still laying furthest away from the group and a small ball of red energy shot in her direction.
Emilia's invisible feet became visible for a brief instant and she instantly appeared just in time to catch the energy ball. The seiteme did not linger, it sped into the surrounding forest, flying between the trees just low enough that it wasn't too close to the ground or too high above the trees.
'There wasn't anything reported about her being able to use her powers. I better get out of here fast'
While Heffner was thinking that and getting away as quick as he could, Emilia began to appear in the direction he was headed forcing him to change direction each time. It wasn't that he was slow or she was fast but rather that when she moved in that form she would instantly appear in the point where she was going to, as if the number of actions she would take are just two, start and finish. This cased the chase between them to be quite prolonged as Emilia couldn't properly time the points of her instantaneous movement well enough to catch Heffner completely off guard but she was getting better very quickly, much to Heffner's dismay.
In bids to slow her down Heffner started shooting energy attacks at her but it only took a short while for Emilia to learn to just ignore the attacks and falling from broken trees because everything phased through her. At last Heffner was cornered when as he made another quick turn after firing energy beams to create obstructions Emilia perfectly timed her movement and caught him by the head, using immense strength to slam him to the ground, making a small crater in the process.
The last thing Heffner saw was Emilia's angry crying face (her palms are invisible in this form remember?) and a bright white and yellow light.
While Emilia and Heffner had been fighting the rest of her group had been slowly reorganizing so when they got to her and regrouped they discovered they couldn't use the chariot since it was trashed in the fight between Emilia and Heffner.
It would take a while later before they found Emilia, but luckily for them a young looking passer by who had come to investigate the loud crashing sounds of the fight, from a nearby town picked them on his ride and took them to his place in the town.
They were really grateful since it was already getting dark and all of them were injured or exhausted in one way or the other.
The young passer by himself , a simple looking nice fellow who kept talking too much about his daughter when he learned Emilia had her same name always avoiding inconvenient topics like "what happened back there?". Himself by the name of Baden was a considerably wealthy fellow the towns blacksmith, which was why he could afford to own an auto (Horses don't pull this carriage).
"Aren't you trusting us too easily?" Clove curiously asked in between Baden avoidantly being too chatty about how good the town was.
"Well, that's true but what's to trust and not to trust? If you are bad people that doesn't mean I should be one and the fact you're in a place like this, not as miners or merchants...then obviously as people running away from Teutoberg" the last part of assertion made them all tense.
"You're the first batch to pass here like this, and we hear that country is not a good place to be. Except you mister red head, you look evil. But I guess it's Fate that we're all here."
They got to his place by nightfall and were they were greeted by his wife Greta and little daughter, a dark haired white little girl (probably eight) not very much like Emilia asides their names. She was very welcoming except to Brynner who she hid from in fear.
"Emilia there's nothing to be afraid of, he's not that kind of monster" her father would say just for her to reply with.
"His skin is dark and his hair is red, he looks just like the monsters the priest tells us about."
"Are you talking about those ugly Seiteme? No no I'm not like them, They have much darker skin, like shadows. I'm actually"
"A Lonthorian. Yes, I know what you are." Baden cut in at Brynner talking to his daughter.
The atmosphere the rest of that night was weird, with Baden and his wife showering Emilia, Avaram, Annika and Clove with care while being visibly hostile towards Brynner. But they were good people who had no ulterior motives, they let the group of strangers stay with them till they were ready to go after a day.
But Baden's daughter went missing the only day of their stay, a search was held and her body was found suspiciously missing a heart. But what was odd was that instead of raising hands to point fingers or really any other kinds of displays of grief the small town was in a mood of celebration. Even though people generally gave Brynner hostile glares the mood of the town as in preparation for a celebration.
"This is odd, that girl was obviously killed by a seiteme yet no one is making any kind of investigation. At least some few ignorant fellows should question my skin but everyone is celebrating?"
"Sir Brynner um don't you know? When a person dies it is their Fate so all we do is celebrate them coming to that end. It's the teaching of the Teut Orthodox."
"Clove, but we're in Friestross not Teutoberg. Something isn't right here. We should stay a bit and investigate."
"But Brynner, we have to be getting to the capital I don't think we have the time."
"Avaram, I'm the knight here am I not?"
"It's nearby the seiteme, I can feel it." Everyone looked at Emilia and she gestured at a man completely dressed in white.
He was the priest for the shrine in the town, he had come to see the parents to talk about burial arrangements.
"Baden it is Fate that Emilia left us at an early age so stay strong, this night celebrate her passing."
"That doesn't sound right. I've seen that kind of death before, a missing heart only happens when a seiteme attacks. This isn't a time to be celebrating."
"Young man do you know what you're saying? Only Diviners can bring those evil creatures, I'm assured that whatever or whoever did this has nothing to do with those creatures. You shouldn't ignorantly...." the priest who was almost angrily arguing Brynner became quite, as if stunned when he saw Emilia.
"Ah, I didn't realize you had guests Baden. I should go prepare for tomorrow, since you have people here to celebrate today with you." after saying that he went out very quickly.
Brynner grabbed Emilia and went after the priest. Avaram wanted to follow but remembering that the two of them were the most capable in their group he let go of the idea.
Brynner and Emilia tailed the priest to the shrine, an isolated small wooden house not very different from the other houses in the town. It only had a sign outside indicating that it was closed for the day.
Brynner, even while carrying Emilia was very quiet and nimble, yet many times over the priest would check the exact hiding places they would be in, until finally he gave up and went to an even more secluded room underground in the wooden house.
"I know been following me. You can come out now."
"So why did you lead us here? No that's not the right question. I'm more interested in why a Teut like you would choose to settle far out here, I'm sure spreading Gods truth isn't the reason so explain yourself."
"And should I speak to Lonthorian scum? You, that girl, I can tell you're a Teut. Why are you with him."
'That girl, she's not ordinary. She feels like a heavy current, I should do something about her.'
"Priest I have questions for you too. I grew up believing that diviners were the reason for the appearance of monsters like you, I already know that's a lie but what I don't understand is why? Why lie to the masses like that?"
Looking at her angry expression and the priest realized something was wrong. He had misinterpreted her Fate. She wasn't just a person meant to have a big impact but the newest diviner.
"Please spare me, I'll tell you everything. It's...those boxes, I have hearts stored away in them." he immediately started begging and point at boxes piled around the room, they weren't ordinary boxes. They had a complex design and eye sized crystals (Like the ones from Avarams mask) at special points over it but in them were frozen hearts, dozens in each box.
"Is this what's going on now or is this just your own trade? pretending to be a preacher to harvest hearts. Well you didn't need to reveal anything, she's still going to kill you."
Hearing those words the priest transformed quickly, dark shadows completely engulfing him and a dark red symbol on his face. Similar to Heffner instead of staying to fight, it made and madly threw red energy balls just to create a diversion for it's escape.
From outside the shrine red streams of energy shot through the building, disintegrating everything it touched and collapsing the shrine.
After that a pitch black person burst out of the wreckage and a number of bright yellow women appeared in the general area the pitch black person moved in.
Emilia was moving fast enough that it looked as if she was in multiple places at once, but she was still barely just able to keep up with the seiteme.
The fight spread throughout the whole town and on many occasions Emilia had to give up chase to protect people from the attacks of the seiteme. When she finally got the timing perfect and hit the creature it reverted back it's face to that of the priest and started yelling, "Look, see this girl is a diviner. The Diviner. She's turning me into a monster."
"Kill that liar"
"Our town was okay before he came and we're supposed to keep believing his words"
"Yes, I remember when my son went to ask him about why the Teut orthodox was so different and never came back"
With the appearance of Emilia the towns folk who had been holding doubts slowly began to inch closer as and yell questions in anger.
Seeing that his tactic wasn't working the priest tried to attack the crowd but Emilia was faster.
The town was saved.
