When the clock struck half past four in the morning, the atmosphere of the bar was fortunately empty. Five workers on the night shift were cleaning up trash from an annoying birthday brats, and Suga found himself carrying a large trash bag to the back.
The streets looked very quiet, and the atmosphere was still dim, for a moment he squatted beside a trash can, took out a cigarette and then lit the lighter.
He inhaled the cigarette, even though there was no real evidence that smoking had a calming effect, at least Suga's head felt lighter.
Conversation with Danny was on his mind again at this quiet moment, and Suga found himself lowering his head. "What should I do?" Of course, there was still a lot of money in his account, enough to pay for their electricity and daily meals, and some left to buy Danny's school supplies. But would it be enough to enroll Danny in Allway Highschool?
Talent like Danny could not be wasted, he did not want Danny to end up like him.
A few minutes pensively looking at the sky, he then looked at his watch, Suga went inside again, took his bag before finally walking home from work.
He opened the door slowly, not wanting to wake his brother who might be asleep at this hour, but Suga saw a glimmer of light through the cracks in Danny's bedroom door.
Is he not sleeping?
Suga knocked on the door, but there was no answer.
"Dan?"
Knocking on the door again several times, finally the door opened slightly, revealing Danny who was still wearing pajamas.
"You just got home?"
"Why are you up at this hour?"
".... I can't sleep."
"Do you want to sleep in my room?"
Suga joked, recalling when Danny was 5 years old, little Danny sometimes could not sleep alone, and always ended up sleeping with him while squeezing the hem of Suga's clothes. Those were sweet memories.
"Shut up, Suga. I'm not a kid anymore."
"Haha, my Danny has grown up." Suga patted his younger brother's head lightly, however Danny answered with a grunt. "Suga you, I'm big enough, you don't have to worry—"
"14 years old is still small."
"At this age I'm almost as tall as you. You're the one who still looks like a child."
Danny laughed mockingly at Suga's height, Suga gently smacked his forehead, then walked away towards the sofa to put his bag there.
It was half past six already, how long had he been walking pensively on the way home? He yawned and stretched his joints, feeling his body grow weary, Suga would never get used to the night shift.
"Do you have to work there?"
Danny leaned against the wall while folding his arms in front of his chest, looking at Suga who looked pale with clear dark eye bags, his body slumped almost asleep on the couch.
"The salary is pretty big."
"But you always come home like that ... like a dying rat."
"Ah, my Dan-dan worried, haha, you don't have to think too much about it."
Silence fell on both of them, neither spoke, no sound except for the ticking of the clock on the wall. Slowly Suga was almost lost in a dream but Danny's rising voice made his eyes shot open.
"Of course!" Danny said, tucked in an annoyed tone. "Of course I will think about it, do you see me as a stupid brat?"
"Dan, what do you mean? Why are you suddenly yelling at me?"
"You always work for me, right? You should think more about yourself!" Clicking his tongue as he stomped his foot, closing the bedroom door with a loud bang.
Is that what people called puberty during adolescence? rebellious phase?
He asked himself, still wearing a confused face thinking about Danny's attitude, his sweet and obedient younger brother did not usually behave like that.
Slowly drowsiness crept in, Suga closed his eyes, his whole body felt lighter, and his mind then went blank.
—
The sunlight made his body feel warm, his hands felt stiff so he tried to roll over but he forgot where he fell asleep, Suga's body fell to the floor making a loud 'thump' sound, he winced as he felt his shoulder joints hit the tiles. "Shit." But his pain was instantly interrupted when he heard the doorbell ringing.
He never had guests.
Once, twice, the bell rang again.
Someone who came to his apartment was probably a cleaner or a plumber, or maybe, it could just be Danny's friend? He had no idea, however skepticism crept in.
Ring, ring, ring—
The bell rings continuously. Snorting, Suga then stood peering into the small hole to see who was outside. A middle-aged man wearing a dark brown suit, the man was standing waiting in front of the door, Suga tried to remember his face, but to no avail, he had never known a man like this. He certainly knew a few of his parents' friends but this man, Suga had never seen that face before.
The bell kept ringing persistently without pause, Suga decided to pull the doorknob slowly, peeking his head out a bit. The middle-aged man smiled warmly at him, the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes were obvious, he smoothed his clothes, giving Suga a friendly look.
"The Reeves family?" The man opened his mouth, and Suga widened his eyes as he heard the name.
He had not heard that last name in a long time, his father's name was Jonathan Reeves while his mother family's name was Akagi, The father preferred to use Akagi for their kids.
Seeing Suga who nodded, the man's face became even more radiant.
"Ah, I finally found you!"
That made Suga raise his eyebrows, a bit surprised.
He had a deja vu. Why did someone he did not know say those same exact words today?
"Sorry if I disturbed your time at this hour..."
The man glanced at his watch for a moment, Suga still did not open the door completely, he chose to stay silent waiting for the man to explain who he was. As if he knew what he was thinking, the man took something from his chest pocket.
"I'm Jason Sint, this is my business card when I was still working at IHPS. Your father was my instructor."
Taking the card, Suga checked the truth of the information; 'Jason Sint, International Human Protection Squad. Canada Headquarters. Alpha Male.'
IHPS — the name of an organization which was very, very familiar— a special force created by the government elites under the guise of military, for some reason Suga did not have a good feeling about this. Again, people from IHPS visited him. His father used to be a former instructor at that place, right after he found the woman he loved, father immediately stopped working there and decided to focus on the household.
"What is your relationship with my father?"
"I understand you're skeptical about having strangers into your house, but I can't talk about this in public."
Suga opened the door wider, allowing the man to enter. As he entered the room the man's eyes roamed around, plain white walls with several photos on display, when his eyes caught a photo of his father, the man smiled and then sat down, placing the briefcase on the table. Suga offered to make tea but the man refused because his arrival was only for a moment.
Suga sat on the ottoman, narrowing his eyes at the big suitcase the man brought with him— 'What for?' such a suspicious object.
"I was one of your father's students back then, it's a shame I couldn't make it to his funeral because I was on an important mission, so my condolences." The man broke the silence first, a sad look on his face. Suga nodded, listening.
"Excuse me if I may ask, who do you know this address from?"
"I've been in Japan for five years, hmm.." The man cleared his throat like he was shy, he smiled a little. "I, I married a Japanese woman while in Canada. My wife lives around here."
"Your house is close to mine?"
"That being said, I was also surprised that the person I was looking for actually lived near the area I was living in. I found you by chance, I mean ... okay, to be honest I've hired a spy to find your address. Looking for you in Yokohama, but somehow I could not find you. I apologize in advance."
"Did you hear that I live around here from Sean?"
That omega's name was the only thing that came to Suga's mind, even though they just met last night but why did that information spread so quickly.
"Yes, that young man. He does work as an informant at IHPS, so many people from various countries give him missions, haha, he's always changing places."
Ah, so that omega guy was an informant, no wonder he looked as if he was suffering the moment he entered the bar, probably from working non-stop traveling around Japan until he finally arrived in Shinjuku.
"Again my condolences on the loss of your parents, wish I could have met Instructor Jonathan's children earlier."
The man's eyes stared at Suga but the man seemed to be reminiscing on old memories, finally the man sighed, he remembered his main purpose of coming here.
"... So the reason I came to see you here is ...your father confiscated my darling."
"My darling?"
"Ah! I mean, I used to bring weapons to that place where personal weapons are prohibited, your father confiscated them and he promised to return them when my military time ended, but your father disappeared somewhere and I don't know where he lived after leaving Canada ... For years!— I searched for where he lived, until I finally found out he lived in Yokohama. But it turned out that the address given to me had changed owners."
Suga looked at the man, he knew that most people in IHPS were not normal, but he did not expect to meet this kind of person directly in real life.
So, my darling, was the weapon he was carrying at the time and as an instructor his father confiscated the man's weapon for breaking the rules there.
Suga recalled that when he was cleaning his old house before it was sold, he saw a large, sturdy wooden box filled with weapons. "I think I know where it is," he muttered softly but his words reached the man's ear, Mr. Jason instantly shouted with joy, his face brightened.
"Really? Really?! Thank God!"
Suga stood up, took the key from the small drawer and opened the door he had not opened for a long time, the door of the store room. He opened it, coughing from the dust that had been gathering inside for a long time, the man was standing behind Suga, putting on a happy face like someone waiting for his girlfriend to come home. Suga turned on the light, immediately they could see the big wooden box in the corner of the room.
The two of them walked inside and Suga then opened the box, the man gasped with pleasure after seeing several weapons that were inside, there were no scuffs or blemishes on the weapons.
"Ahhh! Z*stava Coyote! Les B*er 1911! Dragun*v! and my beloved Colt W*lker! Finally you have come back to me."
Suga stared ironically at the middle-aged man who was now hugging the weapon tightly with eyes full of tears of joy, of course the people from that organization were not normal among them, including his father, Suga almost forgot that his father was also a nerd, his father used to be very obsessed with astronomy so he often collected various types of telescopes.
