Chapter 48 - Magic Chemistry

"Well, to be honest ma'am, I just don't understand what good magic chemistry is going to do for me," said Arthur which made Rosie rather interested by what Arthur was saying.

"What do you mean by that?" Rosie said in a gentle tone.

"I just don't see myself using it in battles," said Arthur which made Rosie nod her head as she tried to understand where Arthur was coming from.

"I see. How about I show you what magic chemistry can do and you can decide for yourself how you want to continue either your learning," said Rosie as she began to cast two spells at once which Arthur saw as nothing new as he was used to doing that himself due to him having so much experience with casting spells however to the average person, seeing this would have caused them to tremble in fear from the sheer skill it would take to accomplish that.

"Tier 7 Spell: Creation Magic - nitroglycerin"

"Tier 1 Spell: Fire Release"

Using her spells, Rosie caused a blob of nitroglycerin to appear in front of her before causing it to explode after using it in unison with the fire.

"You see that? That's magic chemistry," said Rosie with a smile.

"That can also be used to explain why when you use fire and water magic, they cancel out or if you can balance them you can create mist. It can also be used to explain why when ice magic is used in unison with water magic, it amplifies the amount of ice that's produced," said Rosie which Arthur still seemed rather bored.

"But why not just use explosion magic? It's faster to cast," said Arthur which caused Rosie to smile as she was going to use what Arthur said as a teaching opportunity.

"Well, Arthur, let me show you something rather fun," said Rosie.

"Take a look closely," said Rosie as she created 3 different blobs of nitroglycerin which all floated in the air and then she created the same amount of flames that all floated beside the blobs of nitroglycerin.

"Look closely Arthur," said Rosie as he forced the fire to make contact with the nitroglycerin which caused the blobs of nitroglycerin to explode. Instantly, Arthur bored expression changed.

"Why were their colours different?" Arthur asked.

"Even the sound they made and the heat they produced," said Arthur in awe.

"You see Arthur, that's the power of magic chemistry," said Rosie.

"But that still doesn't prove to be a more efficient method that explosion magic," said Arthur to which Rosie began to smile once again.

"Even so, I would have to say one of the explosions was stronger than the amount of power that an explosion spell would produce if created with the same energy supply used to create the combination explosion," said Arthur.

"You see Arthur, the more you play around with the amount of magic you use, the more powerful the spell. You see, out of all of the spells that I used, the middle combination had the strongest power out of it. This wasn't because it had the most amount of nitroglycerin since that was the one on the left. You see, if it has too much nitroglycerin, it overwhelms the flames and if there's too little, it gets overwhelmed by the flames. You need to create the perfect balance so you can get the best outcome. That's the study of magic chemistry. Through it, you'll be able to produce spells which outclass out types which in turn might give you the winning edge in battles," said Rosie with a smile on her face as Arthur's expression had completely changed. As such, he was ready to finally learn.

Since Arthur was intrigued by what Rosie was offering, he gave her all his attention and decided to actually try for once inside a class which wasn't just physical training. He had to make use of his brain which was rather stressful for him since he usually just learned to do things through muscle memory which he now couldn't do anymore and instead was forced to rely on his brain so that he could advance in his so called training. After an hour of nothing but practice with adjusting the amount of magic he used to create his spells, Arthur's class had finally concluded and Rosie waved goodbye to him as Arthur did the same. It seemed like they had lots of fun which was true for Arthur however Rosie was a different case.

"Wow, that kid is a lot more work than I could have ever expected. Seriously, how does he not run out of energy? He just keeps progressing. At first I thought that he would be slow since it took him quite a lot of time to grasp the very basics so why is he getting faster as the seconds go by. He's not even speeding up, he's accelerating. At this rate, I'll run out of things to teach him. I see now though, this must be why he's gotten so strong. He grows in power as time passes until he progresses so quickly that he can complete a skill in a very short time. If I had to give an estimate, it takes him 100 times less time to complete the second half of a skill compared to the first half. Truly a terrifying ability," Rosie said to herself before falling on the ground from utter exhaustion as she had been completely drained from her energy when she was teaching Arthur.

"So how did you like your first class with doctor Rosie?" Egris asked to which Arthur smiled before replying.

"I don't know where you found her but she's truly the best teacher I've met to date. I think I can learn anything with her assistance," said Arthur which made Egris smile. Not just because Arthur seemed to be getting adjusted just fine but also because he was getting stronger. All for the sake of Juno.

"Don't make such decisions yet. Wait until you meet the other teachers as well," said Egris with a smile.

Although Arthur was having fun at his new school, Yosel's Island was covered in a ball of fire while magma dripped from the edges of it. Only the council of sorcery knew what was truly taking place there.
