When we first arrived in the woods, I didn't see anything but a beaten path. I turned around to do something and stood frozen for a moment when I realized that the car had left no tracks. How was that possible?
"We have to walk now," Veronica told us.
In spite of the barely visible trail, we all set out to walk. I kept turning to see the same thing. Our footsteps weren't visible either. I saw Lisa lose control and quickly reached out to her before she fell on the ground. She lost consciousness in my arms and hasn't woken up since.
Almost a week had passed since we got here in the woods. I can't believe how nobody else had noticed the huge mansion even though it's only a few miles out of the city.
"V. Oh how the Lord must be happy today. Welcome darling."
"Ash," Veronica said to the voice.
Tia and I looked at each other. We saw no one. We sure heard the voice but there was no one in sight.
I was carrying Lisa in my arms. She was still not up and I wished for her to be in a bed soon. Veronica continued to move without ahesitationand we quietly followed suit.
"We are here," said Veronica as I noticed a small run-down cottage, barely visible between the bushes.
She couldn't be serious. Are we hiding here? Taking turns we entered the cottage, only to see a massive mansion in front of us.
"I will show you to your room. Sleep. You need to rest." said the old lady who greeted us.
"Ash, thanks for having us," Veronica said and motioned for Tia and me to greet the ladies.
She looked at us, then at Lisa in my arms.
"Oh my, I've heard so much about you child. Glad we could finally meet.
"Bring her upstairs. She needs to sleep for a few days." She said and started climbing up the gorgeous stairway, in the centre of the living area. My gaze followed her as she elegantly moved up the stairway in her long, black gown.
