The next day Victor whent to school only to hear…
"What! The exams got changed?" Victor asked with wild eyes.
"yes that's what I heard but am not sure, if it is really so then the school will tell us." Dave replied.
"I hope they know what the hell they're doing" Victor said running his hands through his hair.
"Victor stop it you'll spoil your hair" Dave lamented.
"darn it! It took me one fucking hour to do this damn hair." Victor cursed.
"I hate this fucking school, how could they do this man, just tell me why, tell me why will they change the exams, I've been reading my fucking brains out." Victor angrily complained.
"just calm down it's just a hear say and moreover it might even turn out in our favour." Dave said.
"Favor my arse, I know this guy's and they're ain't gonna do shit in our favor." Victor ranted.
"you are doing it again" Dave said.
"doing what!" Victor was really not in a nice mood.
"that thing you do when you're stressed out" Dave said.
"Nigga, what the hell is wrong with you, what thing are you talking about?" Victor asked very flustered about his situation.
"that thing you do with your accent" Dave replied.
"what! seriously man, am talking about my dreams of going to the ALL Academy being at stake and you're telling me about my damned accent? That's the way I was born bro! Goddamit!" Victor exclaimed.

After miss Anna's class was over that day, she then informed them about the changes done in there exams. "Before I forget, there have been some changes in your exams." She said and Victor pricked his ears "it won't be a written one." She finally said after a small purse.
"what!" Everybody shouted looking excited and alarmed at the same time.
Excited of the fact that they don't need to worry about reading anymore but worried about the type of practicals they'll have to do to cover up. Although they were in the magical era, theoretical aspects weren't abandoned in terms of teaching and learning.
Victor was sulking he really had high hopes of passing the written exams but now it has been shattered.
"Your exams will be evaluated and scored based on those who are able to reach the basic level in a week. And mind you, your performance affect your admission to the ALL ACADEMY, apparently they will be the ones to organize this year's Awakening ceremony for those who pass the exams" she explained.
"basic level in a week? What a joke, why us, why did they choose us" a student complained.
"am afraid that's how it is everywhere this year." She said and left the class
"What the hell!" Dave exclaimed.
"I think i like this new plan" Victor said.
"what do you mean by that" Dave asked feeling upset.
"I mean we would be spending some more time in Mr kain's classes" Victor explained.
"I hate that class" Dave complained.
"aww sorry but that's the only way you could enter the basic level, unless you're dad some how starts buying you some ordinary beast meat which is unlikely" Victor said.
"What do you mean unlikely, my father is a third stage evolver even mutant meat won't be a problem for him to get he could just hunt it himself" Dave said with his head raised high.
"Whatever" Victor said obviously jealous.
"knowing the way things are now you wouldn't even dare to make a bet with me" Dave said with a sly smile. Seeing the smile on his face Victor couldn't help but want to whack him. Dave is very lucky for having a rich and strong dad, he is more like a nerd in school but one of the things Victor likes about him is how humble he is, he won't be surprised if he is the only one in class who knows that Dave comes from a rich family.
"Who said that, what's there to be afraid of, even if you happen to get all those meat, it will take time for you to eat all of them and do you even know how many you are supposed to eat it might be hundreds" Victor said.
"It doesn't matter, as long as the meat is available, eating it won't be a problem, even if it is to much, even if it's a hundred meat that is needed for me to be a basic mage It won't be a problem in fact I could blend it and drink it like a sort of smoothie!" Dave replied
"That's gross man!" Victor said troubled by the whole matter "okay let's make the bet" he said 'I have nothing, so I have nothing to lose' he thought to himself "what are we betting on" he asked.
"It goes like this if one of us reaches basic level before the other, the winning party will have to grant the winner a wish… just one" Dave explained.
"Come on that's so childish, can't you think of anything else." Victor asked.
"no, can you?" Dave asked.
"…."
"Alright let's do it then." Victor said developing a big headache just thinking for an alternative.
"Let's shake on it then" Dave said with a big smile.

Few days later Victor celebrated his birthday with his mother and his sister who came back from boarding school. Dave was also their and few of their neighbors came too for the small get together.
after the party was over and everyone was gone except Dave who was sleeping over. Victor went to sleep with a satisfied smile on his face.
But....
Immediately the clock struck midnight a strange phenomenon happened. The pendant on his necklace, the one which looked like a gemstone of some sort, started glowing. Although it always had some sort of glow to it but this time the whole room was illuminated with a strange blue light.
Feeling a vibration on his chest Victor was woken up to the strange phenomenon. "What's this?" he was in shock.
