With caution, the intruder closed the door behind him and hid the dagger inside his robe. Brunos could see nothing but darkness since there was nothing else to reflect light. Instead of panicking, he fixed his eyes in the same direction. If the intruder was someone strong like Fellene, revealing to him that he wasn't asleep would reduce his chances of winning the battle. He needed to let him get closer so he could take him off guard as in spy movies.
After 20 seconds of zooming, Brunos realized the guy was standing still, maybe to ensure Brunos didn't hear him enter.
The intruder revealed his dagger again. As he walked towards the bed, Brunos closed his eyes, leaving only a slit to observe the killer's actions. He even controlled his breath and maintained his movements to make his acting realistic.
When the killer stood close to the bed, Brunos tried to look at his face so he could know who he was. However, the big hood left only darkness.
After a few seconds, Brunos saw him raising the dagger with both hands high above his head. He waited for him to stab, but the dagger hung in the air. Why was he hesitating? Did someone force him to do it?
'No!" Brunos told himself. 'Keep your eyes open. It might be a trick. Maybe he is trying to make sure you're really asleep.'
Since the killer was only staring at him, it became difficult for him to keep a steady breath. He wiggled a bit as if dreaming. That's when the killer moved.
Instead of seeing the dagger coming his way, Brunos saw the killer's shoulders slump. He slowly brought his right hand closer to Brunos and placed it on his cheek.
"A female?" Brunos asked himself when the hand caressed the skin on his cheek. It felt soft and comfortable, the warmth from it making his skin tense. The action brought back his memories with Lilyard under the sheets, making him swear to keep alive until he accomplishes what Lilyard wanted.
As if the intruder's touch wasn't torture enough, her damp lips touched Brunos's forehead before he felt them brush against his lips.
'What the fuck?' Brunos cursed at the back of his brain, wondering what this intruder wanted. If she was there for a kiss, why would she bring a dagger with her?
"At least I know how a kiss feels," said the intruder, to her delight. "Brunos, forgive me. I have no choice."
'This voice. Where have I heard it before?'
Before Brunos could relate, the killer raised the dagger above her head, and with both her hands, she brought it down aiming for his chest.
Her hands moved so fast but Brunos who had been ready for it, managed to roll sideways. The dagger sank into the space where he had been lying.
"Oo! That was close."
Brunos threw his arms at her instantly. He wrapped them around her neck and jumped over her to twist them.
"Movies are a lie," He said when his plan to strangle her like in spy movies failed. Overpowering him, she rolled and sat over him.
Brunos wrapped his arms around her waist to restrain her, forgetting she had a dagger. However, she didn't impale him. She instead struggled to break his tight grip. She had overpowered him. Why wasn't she stabbing him when? Was she being kind? Maybe she was still shocked to remember she had a dagger. Realizing he had made himself vulnerable, that if she wanted she would have stabbed him, he decided to let her go.
'But I have to know who she is!' Thought Brunos when he saw her running away. If she escaped, Brunos would live in fear of attack.
'What do I do? What do I do?'
Running after an enemy with a weapon, an enemy so powerful as her would be a suicide mission. Brunos racked his brain to figure out what to do, but it was as if ideas had fled away when he fought the killer.
He considered screaming. How could he do such a thing? He considered it cowardice. Besides, it wasn't the solution he wanted. The killer's behavior revealed she was forced to do so. Brunos wanted the force behind.
At that moment, Brunos's prayers were answered. How could he have forgotten such a thing? That he had Super Speed ability?
Thankfully, the distance between the bed and the door had given him time to think. Now it was time for action. Like a shooting star, he shot towards her. He gave her a hind hug, clasping his hands around her belly.
He quickly pulled her and sent her flying before she could react. He wanted her alive so he threw her onto the bed.
Caught off guard, the killer pointed the dagger at Brunos. "Don't come near me!" She demanded with a shaking voice.
"Who are you?"
Instead of answering his question, "Let me leave! Please! I still love my life," she pleaded.
Brunos was stunned. She came willingly. She kissed him willingly. What was she afraid of then?
He walked towards the bed. "Why did you come if you valued your life?"
Jumping off the bed was her answer. To show him she only wanted to leave, she threw her dagger away as she ran towards the door. Brunos watched her coming. He stepped aside for her to pass by him, only to surprise her by pulling off her hood.
He grasped it tightly causing the purple-haired intruder to fall backwards. He stared at her as she struggled to get it around her head again. Was she Morrin?
Having purple hair didn't mean she was Morrin. But the voice. Now Brunos could relate. In order to be sure, he tried to zoom into her face, only to be disappointed by the moonlight. There wasn't much inside.
The idea of pinning her to the floor sounded wise because she was about to get up. "Morrin?" he asked as he put it into action.
"Please spare my mother's life," she said in panic and regret. "She has nothing to do with this."
Brunos let go of her. "Who sent you?"
"I came on my own."
Brunos couldn't help but laugh. "Who are you trying to fool? Tell me who sent you if you don't want anything terrible to happen to your mom." However much it helped, he didn't like the idea of using her mom to threaten her. Though Robert later compensated for it, the day he told him to leave the room if he wanted his mom alive was one the frightening memories he ever had.
The thought of his mom disrupted him, and before he knew it, Morrin ran towards the door. "Are you crazy? Don't tell me you forgot how fast I am?"
"A chance comes only when you've tried," Morrin replied as she ran faster.
Brunos watched her laughing at her stubbornness. "I guess you're right. But there are some situations where trying only makes things worse."
When she was one step from the door, Brunos shot to catch her. As if she had planned it, she immediately jumped sideways to dodge his attack. After the unexpected turn of events, Brunos failed to slow down and hit the door. The wooden door shattered, the noise of falling pieces echoing around the area.
Morrin crunched beside him. "Are you alright?" she asked. Why did she sound concerned? Shouldn't she be escaping or killing him?
Brunos was about to ask her what was really her intention when suddenly, the whole room brightened. He rubbed his eyes to adjust to the light before scanning his surroundings. There was a small Crimson Star in every corner, the beams from them connecting on a large crystal dangling in the middle of the room. A crimson glowing square.
"Your highness," called an unfamiliar angelic voice. "Are you alright?"
Standing up, Brunos turned around to see the queen standing there in an alluring black night gown. Being without wings making her even more beautiful. He could also see the Four Auburns, Fellene and that unfamiliar face.
"I'm alright!" Brunos answered that round faced lady, observing more of her features.
Uliva.
According to his memories, she was Valeria's maid since she was a child. Brunos's father brought her from Akabel kingdom along with Valeria. It was after killing Valeria's parents in a battle to conquer their kingdom.
"What's going on?" asked Fellene. His face looked restless, possibly due to the Petite's claw wounds.
Brunos pointed at Morrin. "She attacked me."
"Who's she?"
Brunos shrugged off.
"Take off that thing you're wearing," Fellene ordered her, turning to one of the Four Aurburns. "Give me your sword!"
Upon hearing those words, Morrin stepped away from Brunos, her hands holding onto the hood as if she would choose death instead of revealing her face.
"Seems like you prefer death," said Fellene taking fast steps toward her. "How dare you attack my brother and disobey my command?"
Fellene's words triggered something in Brunos. Brother? Why was he acting so nice suddenly? Wasn't he determined to kill him hours ago? Why was he there? For the Queen, her chambers adjoined Brunos's. Aurburns were guards. What was Fellene doing there then?
Brunos had to confirm something. "Step back!" He told Fellene. "I feel like there's someone else behind this. She must answer some of my questions before doing any other thing."
Instead of stepping back, Fellene charged at her. "No she must die!"
Brunos blocked Fellene's path. "She stays!" he told him.
