Chapter 17 - 17. War Cry!

Using his connection with the Corpse puppet, Fang Yang instructed it to attack with this ability.

The second Fang Yang thought this, the red eyes of the Corpse puppet started to glow with an ominous light.

The corpse puppet took a deep breath, causing the veins on its neck to bulge out before emitting of a horrifying cry.

"ROAR!"

A deafening roar erupted across the training field.

But although the roar was extremely loud and the appearance of the corpse puppet was visually intimidating, Fang Yang didn't feel much happening to him.

He didn't feel shocked or stunned as the instructions had told him he would feel.

Confused, Fang Yang stopped to think about it.

It was either that he failed to refine the corpse puppet properly or it was meant to have no effect on him.

Fang Yang didn't want to believe he had made a mistake, so he chose to believe the latter.

Besides this, it made more sense if the latter was actually true.

Fang Yang had formed a connection with the Corpse puppet through the blood soul pact and if the attack released by the corpse puppet stunned the owner whilst they were fighting together it would be counterproductive.

Thinking like this Fang Yang went into his house to catch one of the mice that he knew had been scuttling around inside.

Afterwards, Fang Yang dropped the mouse in front of the corpse puppet.

The instant the mouse was let free, it dashed away from Fang Yang as quickly as it could.

Seeing this, Fang Yang instructed the Corpse puppet to use War cry.

The corpse puppet's veins bulged as a terrifying roar escaped from its mouth.

The second this happened, the mouse sprawled out on the floor before rolling over, completely stiff.

Walking up to the now motionless mouse, Fang Yang began to inspect it.

The mouse did not seem to have suffered any internal trauma, but it lay completely dead.

Looking at the mouse's eyes that had rolled back completely.

Fang Yang quickly recognised the symptoms of this attack.

A soul attack!

Fang Yang was left stunned at this realisation.

The Battle Saint Corpse puppet actually had a soul attack as an innate ability!

It must be remembered that this was only an iron level zombie, but somehow a zombie had managed to get a soul attack.

What sort of madness is this?

Fang Yang was sure if he told anyone else that he had a zombie that could use soul attacks, they would definitely call him crazy!

Even for a regular cultivator, soul attacks were an extremely rare thing. Fang Yang didn't even know if there were soul attack methods in the corpse ghost sect, but if they were, then they were definitely a closely guarded secret.

It's rare for ghosts, creatures that would be considered soul bodies to have direct soul attacks in the Qi refinement stage.

Most ghosts in the Qi refinement stage could only attack with Yin Qi and a small portion of them may be able to create illusions that could confuse souls. But Attacking the soul was extremely rare.

Although the war cry ability wasn't a direct soul attack and could only stun and shock the enemy.

This just put into perspective how ridiculous it was for a corpse puppet to have a soul attack.

Although Fang Yang already knew it, looking at this, he couldn't help but think once again that the Battle Saint Corpse puppet was truly a heaven-defying treasure.

The fact that it had managed to fall into the hands of a waste like the previous Fang Yang could only mean that Fang Yang had used up all his luck and even all that of his ancestors.

That's probably why the predecessor died such a sad death. Otherwise, with such a powerful corpse puppet, if given enough time, even a pig would be able to make a name for himself!

Fang Yang didn't want to end up like his predecessor, dying sadly before he could even achieve anything.

For that purpose alone, Fang Yang wouldn't stop training and, lifting his knives, started to practise the Flying Swallow Knife once more.

....

Just Like that, three days passed by in a flash.

After three days, Fang Yang's Flying Swallow Knife art had made rapid progress, allowing Fang Yang to step into the small achievement stage.

With this, Fang Yang could now control 10 flying knives at the same time.

This, when coupled with the new ability of the Battle Saint Corpse puppet, allowed Fang Yang to finally have enough ability to feel somewhat calm as he went on the mission.

Making sure he hadn't forgotten anything important, Fang Yang left for the meeting point of the mission..

As Fang Yang walked out of his house, he remembered the things that Zhou Meili had told him about it.

Due to the nature of the mission, he wouldn't be travelling there himself and would be instead escorted by an elder from the sect.

Walking, Fang Yang finally arrived at the meeting place, which was located within the inner sect.

As Fang Yang arrived, he could see the place crowded with roughly around 30 people.

The first thing he noticed was that most of the people had a cultivation in the late stage of Qi refining. Even the few that were not in the late stage of Qi refinement at least had a cultivation of the 6th layer of Qi refining.

With his cultivation of the 2nd layer of Qi refining, he stuck out like a sore thumb.

And as expected of people with high cultivation bases, most of the people he could see were wearing ink black robes, showing the status of inner sect disciple. Although there were still a few scattered grey robes of outer sect disciples that could be seen in the crowd, they were still a minority.

Fang Yang could feel a few curious gazes cast in his direction. Obviously, they were shocked that he dared to show up for such a mission with his low cultivation, but surprisingly enough, there was no scene of someone stepping out to test him of his strength.
