Chapter 35 - 35. Rat nest

The next rat's end was even more tragic. The corpse puppet's massive hands wrapped around the rat's neck and simply pulled off its head like you would a shrimp!

Fang Yang's skeleton soldiers weren't idle either and the second the rats froze up they rose their sabres and charged straight at the rats.

Unfortunately, the Skeleton soldiers didn't have it as easy as the corpse puppet and their kills weren't clean, allowing the rats to make one last violent counter attack, breaking the bones of many skeletons.

At least 1 skeleton soldier in every group was seriously damaged, to the point that they couldn't be used in combat anymore.

Seeing this, Fang Yang wasn't disheartened.

He had already expected this to happen. No matter how organised his skeleton soldiers were, they were still in rank below the mid stage gold eating rat. It was ridiculous to think that he would be able to defeat them without taking any damage.

Besides, Fang Yang still had sufficient mana to summon a new batch of skeletons, so even if part of them were basically destroyed, it didn't hurt Fang Yang too deeply.

With this in mind, Fang Yang moved to collect the tails of gold-eating rats, but as he moved to collect the tails of the rat killed by his corpse puppet, he noticed something strange. It would actually be more accurate to say that he felt something strange.

As he approached the wall of the cracks on the mineshaft wall left by his corpse puppet, he felt a slight breeze blowing against him.

Seeing small cracks on the walls after his corpse puppet's attacks wasn't too surprising.

After all, the corpse puppet strength was quite tremendous. What was strange was that he was feeling a slight breeze from small cracks.

As a cultivator, Fang Yang's senses were heightened to nearly superhuman levels, so he didn't believe that he was mistaking this either.

Then this breeze could only mean that it led to another section of the mine.

Now curious about this discovery, Fang Yang instructed his corpse puppet to dig away at the crack, opening it up more.

After a while, the small crack was widened into a rather large hole that allowed Fang Yang to see inside, and what he saw was rather impressive.

A tunnel.

A large tunnel big enough to fit a regular sized man that seemed to stretch on farther than the eyes could see. Fang Yang didn't know how far this tunnel stretched, but what he did know was that this breeze was definitely coming from down the tunnel.

Fang Yang instantly recognised what this was.

A rat tunnel!

The gold-eating rats had dug various tunnel systems throughout the mine to reach places that the larger passageways dug by humans couldn't.

They also used them to avoid detection by humans and conceal their nests.

Finding a tunnel usually meant that one could find a gold eating rat nest at the end.

As Fang Yang's saw this, he was excited!

The location of the rat's nest could be worth a lot of spirit stones, as it allowed the sect to wipe off a major breeding spot for the rats.

This place seemed to be leading to a rat's nest, so Fang Yang could practically smell the spirit stones he could get from this.

But before Fang Yang sold the information on the nest, he had to actually confirm that it was there.

He couldn't afford to waste the sect's time based on a hunch, so he decided to go into the tunnel to go and check it out for himself.

Fang Yang wanted to bring this strongest combat force, his corpse puppet, along with him. The only problem was the tunnel simply wasn't to be big enough for it to fit inside.

The Battle Saint corpse puppet was an absolute unit and standing at over 7ft tall, I could be considered a little giant.

This when coupled with bulging muscles, meant that it wouldn't be able to even move in the tunnel spaces.

Fang Yang could only set the corpse puppet to guard the entrance.

But this doesn't mean that Fang Yang was going on with no protection.

He de-summoned his 3 damaged skeletons so that if he encountered any problems inside of the tunnels he would be able to summon them to his side.

Even if the skeletons couldn't fight properly inside the small space, they would at least be able to block the way and give Fang Yang enough time to escape.

With his protection somewhat secured, Fang Yang entered into the tunnel.

The tunnel was just big enough to fit a regular sized adult male, but even with this Fang Yang still felt uncomfortable with his shoulders often rubbing against the tunnel walls as he crawled along.

This process lasted for 10 mins with Fang Yang crawling along in the dark, claustrophobic tunnel with his only light source being the small dim piece of glowstone he grasped in his palm.

If this continued, Fang Yang didn't know how long he could last in such conditions.

Fortunately, he didn't have to wait long as all around him the feeling of a slight gust of wind started to pick up, hinting that Fang Yang was getting closer and closer to the exit.

In just a few more moments, Fang Yang was actually able to make out what he guessed to be the end of the tunnel, the faint light from glowing underground moss could be seen from the other side.

Seeing this, Fang Yang couldn't contain his excitement.

The spirit stones he needed so much were already basically in his hands!

As Fang Yang reached the exit, he paused and looked out.

In front of him, he could see a gigantic cavern and all over the cavern wall Fang Yang could see many similar tunnels to the one he was in lining the cavern walls, making it look like one giant beehive.

It was at that moment that Fang Yang knew that he had greatly underestimated the scale of this rat's nest.
