Chapter 31 - 31. A scam!

For a cultivator like Fang Yang, asking them to give up such a good place for cultivation is like asking them to cut off a limb.

But what could Fang Yang do?

He had neither the talent nor the strength to get a place like this given to him by the sect.

Walking out of his residence, Fang Yang strolled around the mining outpost, taking in the novel sights and situations around him.

One thing that he noticed whilst he was walking was that many of the disciples going into and out of the mines were in groups. But after thinking about it for a while, Fang Yang felt it made sense.

The reason for grouping up was obviously to increase the combat effectiveness and security of the group when entering the mine.

Due to the fast rate at which these gold eating rats can breed and their high population, if one entered the mines alone, they would always find themselves outnumbered by their opponent.

After all, not everyone was like Fang Yang and could summon 10 undead skeletons at the same level to fight for him.

Even with this, Fang Yang still wasn't against the idea of teaming up. The only issue was that his undead skeletons had too many secrets from them that he simply couldn't explain.

Plus the skeletons soldiers were meant to be his trump card against his enemies and something that he could use to catch them off guard.

How could it still be considered a trump card if it was paraded around for everybody to notice?

After checking out the entrance to the mines for a while, Fang Yang continued wandering until he came across a market place.

The place he found was not too dissimilar to the marketplace he had seen in the outer sect.

He saw the disciples manning stalls as they placed their valuables on display.

Some sold weapons and armour, some sold talismans, and Fang Yang even saw some stalls selling alchemy pills.

As Fang Yang saw the alchemy pills for sale, he quickly remembered the Qi replenishing pill he had taken earlier today in the mine.

Within just 5 mins Fang Yang's Qi reserves had gone from nearly empty to back to full, a process that would normally take up to an hour to complete.

Although their effect in direct combat wasn't too outstanding, the utility effect of those pills was so amazing that Fang Yang would never say no to having more of them.

Walking up to the stall, Fang Yang wanted to find out if he could buy some more pills to replenish his stock, but after receiving the price, Fang Yang walked away faster than he came!

What a joke!

These guys were just a bunch of scammers!

They actually charged him 8 spirit stones for a bottle of Qi replenishing pills. That was double the price he had bought them for back in the sect.

If that wasn't daylight robbery, then Fang Yang didn't know what was!

But what made Fang Yang truly despair was that no matter which stall he went to, he was always quoted a similar price.

To make matters worse, it wasn't just the Qi replenishing pill that had doubled in price, all other pills had doubled in price too.

Even other commodities, like talismans and weapons, had become more expensive.

Although it wasn't as outrageous as alchemy pills that had doubled in price, they still were noticeably higher than the price you could get them for within the sect

After realising what was going on, Fang Yang scolded their ancestors for having descendants that were so shameless.

This wasn't just the greed of just one man, but the concerted effort of everyone present.

But Fang Yang knew they could do such a ridiculous thing in a place like the mining outpost and get away with it.

The mining outpost was far away from the sect or any other markets, so this would be the only place others could buy their goods from.

In addition, the major reason they could get away with charging such sky-high prices was the nature of the mining outpost itself.

The disciples at the mining outpost were still earning a large amount of money every single day.

People had a tendency to be willing to spend more if they were earning a lot.

There were other locations that would be far away from the sect, just like the mining outpost, but the people there didn't charge such ridiculous prices. Without the allure of a place that could convince the buyers that they would be able to earn the money they just spent back within one day, nobody would be so stupid as to fall for such ridiculous prices.

But it was too late for the mining outpost. The prices had been ridiculous here for so long that other people had already begun to accept it as a norm.

If it wasn't for his humongous debt, maybe Fang Yang would be like the rest of the people around him. Slowly adjusting to the high prices until he came to accept it as a fact.

But with his current situation, how could he do such a ridiculous thing?

It already pained him to rent out a first class residence for one spirit stone and looking at that from a neutral perspective that could be considered a fair deal.

How could he accept something that was blatantly scamming him?

Besides, Fang Yang wasn't so desperate that he needed to buy the Qi replenishing pills no matter the cost.

He still had some that he bought from the sect and those could still last him a while, so he wasn't too worried.

After seeing the ridiculous prices of all the products in the market, Fang Yang wasn't in the mood to wander around anymore and headed back to his residence to rest up for the night.

...

Like that, nearly a week had passed since Fang Yang came to the mining outpost with him going deep into the eastern sector every single day.
