A ferocious light flashed in its eyes as it lunged straight at Fang Yang! But the creature barely even moved a few feet before a silver light flashed from behind, lodging itself straight into the jumping rat's neck.
The third flying knife Fang Yang had thrown out had returned to finish the job.
The attack was instantly fatal as the rat quickly slumped onto the ground.
Seeing this sight, Fang Yang was satisfied with his performance. Of course, he wouldn't suddenly become arrogant because he could kill a rat.
A normal human cultivator could summon a shield to block a few of his knives, so it could easily play out differently.
Even some demon beasts could have tough enough skin or scales that could block his knives without any problem. If he ran into such an opponent, it could easily lead to him being embarrassed.
Fortunately, he wasn't the main combat power. He would always have his undead servants to act for him.
A green light shot out of it's corpse, flashing straight into Fang Yang's body when a neutral female voice sounded in his head
"Ding! Congratulations on levelling up!"
With that, Fang Yang brought up his panel again
Name: Fang Yang
Class : Necromancer
Level: 2 (0/3)
Mana: 2
Skills: Summon Skeleton - Mana cost: 1
His level and mana had both increased to two meaning that he could summon 2 skeletons at a time.
That's when a thought suddenly crossed his mind.
'Since I already have a skeleton summoned and now that I have 2 mana, wouldn't that mean that I can have 3 skeletons at a time?'
As soon as that thought came into his mind, Fang Yang couldn't wait to try it out.
With just a thought, a black mist began to swirl at Fang Yang's feet as a large skeletal figure appeared with a sabre in hand.
The first summon went without a hitch. But the second Fang Yang tried to summon a third skeleton, things started to get troublesome.
For some reason, whenever he tried to summon a third skeleton, the entire summoning process would just halt.
It was as if there was an invisible barrier placed somewhere that just prevented it from happening. For Fang Yang, who was doing the summoning, it would feel as if he was running headfirst into a wall, creating an extremely unpleasant sensation.
Seeing that things were like this, Fang Yang could just sigh.
It seemed like he wouldn't be able to cheat the system after all.
For some reason Fang Yang couldn't summon the amount of skeletons that was higher than his level.
It was at this point that Fang Yang realised that his game panel wasn't the exact same as the game he had been playing in his previous life.
There were some strange and unexplained rules that came along with it that couldn't be properly explained.
But then this led into another question. If it wasn't the exact game panel from his previous life, then what exactly was the system?
"Hello? system?"
"Can you hear me?"
After asking around and calling the system with no response, Fang Yang just shook his head with a smile.
If someone was to watch him from afar, he would look like a complete lunatic.
Fang Yang had been constantly calling out to the system with no response, so he could only assume that the system wasn't sentient, and to be honest, Fang Yang was happier that way.
Although there were countless questions and things that Fang Yang would like to have answered about the system,
If there truly was a sentient being within, or at least controlling the system, Fang Yang would never be able to sleep properly at night.
The system was his biggest reliance in this world and also his biggest secret.
It was his trump card, his crutch, that he could rely on in dangerous circumstances. So to know that his trump card would be in control and manipulated could never sit right with Fang Yang's deeply untrusting personality.
With this, Fang Yang could just accept that his system came about due to some inter-dimensional shenanigans and it was much easier to accept that way.
After summoning a second skeleton and realising that he couldn't summon anymore, Fang Yang walked up to the two dead bodies of the gold-eating rats to collect his spoils.
The Corpse Ghost Sect had acknowledged that the gold-eating rat infestation was a problem, and they also knew that if nothing was done about it, the rats would only continue to breed, increasing their number and becoming even more of a problem.
Because of this the Sect had actually set up a bounty for the gold-eating rats, so there were actually two ways to earn spirit stones in the spirit gold mine.
One was mining for spirit gold and the other was killing gold-eating rats.
The reward gained for killing the gold-eating rats varied a lot based on the strength of the rats killed.
3 early stage demon beasts could be exchanged for 1 spirit stone.
1 mid stage demon beast could be exchanged for 1 spirit stone.
And 1 late stage demon beast could be exchanged for 5 spirit stones.
The way that the sect had said that they were going to confirm the kills would be based on the tails of the gold-eating rats. As since the gold eating rats vary in size based on the stage they were in, it would be easy to determine the strength of the gold eating rat killed based on its tail size.
Fang Yang cut off the two rat tails and put them in his space bag.
He was only one more rat tail away from having earned four spirit stones.
That was basically his earnings of an entire month, and that was before he even finished working for an entire day!
If things continued at this rate, then earning 200 spirit stones wasn't simply just a dream.
With an uncontrollable excitement starting to swell in his heart, Fang Yang started to journey deeper and deeper into the eastern sector.
