Chapter 49 - The White Castle

**Present day**

The castle Fehérvár—"the White Castle" in Hungarian—looks like something out of a movie about Medieval Europe. It isn't just another old ruin, preserved only for tourists—it doesn't look aged at all.

Its square walls are limed white, which no modern castle would be—not after all those years. The keep's tower pokes out from behind the walls, and tall turrets peer at the approaching travelers with the narrow eyes of their embrasures.

The drawbridge is down, but no one goes in or out of the gates. Yet, the castle with the name I can't properly pronounce still stays the most lively part of the scenery. The surroundings are much more dreary.

The moat around the castle has dried out long ago, and the towns that grew to life around this area are abandoned by their inhabitants. The hill the castle stands on is rocky and bleak, and so are the many other hills that span on the horizon.
