Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: Getting a Warrant

"Are you serious?" Scarlet was dumbfounded.

"Yeah, I'm legally able to get a warrant. We might be able to find the culprit," Caspian said with a smile.

Scarlet couldn't help but stand up with excitement. She then approached Caspian and hugged him tightly as she said, "That's really great!"

"I guess sometimes, a person's stubbornness does pay off," she said with a smile as she let go of Caspian.

"Before anything else, Scarlet, can you give me the files about the recent murders done by that person? It would be better if my team and I could look at the bodies."

"Unfortunately, the bodies have all been sent to the morgue, but I can hand you the files," Scarlet just nodded her head as she grabbed a few folders in her drawer and handed them all to Caspian. "Here, just get that fucker, m'kay?"

Caspian nodded with a smile. He then left the lab and returned to his office, where Abby and the others were waiting.

As he arrived, he opened the door and headed straight for his table. He then threw the folders on the table and garnered the people's attention.

"In the past month, ten more murders have happened, six of which are from the same person. Guess who that person is?" Caspian said with slight anger in his voice as he sat down with a frown.

Abby's brows knitted as she said, "We have to make a move as soon as possible."

Caspian and the others nodded. Then, Natalie suddenly said, "So what will our next move be?"

"We have to wait for the warrant first. We can't do anything without it," Abby said as she turned to look at Caspian.

After a while of chatting, Caspian's phone suddenly rang. He picked it up as he answered the call. "Hello?"

[Detective, I have approved your request for a warrant. Go to my office immediately; I have some orders for you.]

"Yes—" The captain immediately hung up after that without giving Caspian a chance to reply. He just stood up as he looked at the others.

"The warrant request had been approved. I'll leave you guys here first," Caspian said while leaving the room.

He then headed towards the captain's office and knocked on the door, which the captain beckoned him to come in. He then saluted as he sat down on one of the chairs.

"Detective Ashwood, I'll have to ask you to bring this to a judge for approval. I assume you brought Agent Grace's team with you?" The captain said.

"Yeah, do you want me to bring them here?" Caspian asked.

"No, no, just confirming since Agent Grace told me to register those four as temporary officers here."

"Ah, I see. Well, thank you for this, captain. I'll go and get this approved."

"Oh, before you leave, bring this affidavit and show this to the judge. It'll take about ten days before you get your warrant approved, but although this isn't a sworn statement, it is a statement from me. It will still probably take about five days.

Caspian nodded his head as he grabbed the document. Just then, he thought of something and immediately voiced it out, "Captain, I can request Scarlet to write an affidavit since she can confirm the information I gave you."

The captain thought about it as he nodded. "If it makes it faster, do it."

Caspian nodded as he stood up and saluted. He then left the room and headed to the laboratory.

He then opened the door and told Scarlet. "Scarlet, can you write a sworn statement for us? Just to quicken the time needed to get the warrant approved?"

"Oh sure," Scarlet replied as she got a document and started writing an affidavit.

Caspian thanked her as he left the room while heading toward his office.

As he entered, he looked at everyone and told them, "We have to get this warrant approved as soon as possible."

Caspian then showed them the warrant and the affidavit. As Abby and the others nodded, Nadia said, "I have a suggestion. You and Abby should go ahead and get this done while we try to investigate through our own means."

Caspian nodded while saying, "I agree. We can't just have you guys lying around with nothing to do. After we get this done, I'll contact you guys since we'll have collected the blood type documents."

Soon, they all stood as Nadia, and the others left the station. Since they didn't have a car, they walked, but as they hid in a dark alley, they disappeared as if there was no trace.

On the other hand, Caspian and Abby prepared themselves as Caspian grabbed the keys. He then said, "I'll drive this time. It's been so long since the last time I drove. I might've forgotten how to drive already."

Abby laughed as she said, "Dumbass, there's no way you'll forget how to drive in that short of a time, haha."

"Fuck you, Abby," Caspian flipped her off.

Abby simply smiled as she turned around and bent slightly while saying, "Sure."

Caspian couldn't help but chuckle as he slapped her ass, causing her to shudder slightly. "Who would've thought that the strong-willed Abby would be this horny."

Abby simply smiled as a slight tinge of pink appeared on her face. She then whispered in a voice Caspian couldn't hear, "It's your fault, though."

They then went out of the station, rode the car, and immediately headed towards one of the courts in the city.

-------------------------------------------------------------

As they drove, Caspian lightly glanced at Abby's face. He saw Abby looking outside the window with her chin resting on her hand. He couldn't help but find this cute, so he smiled as he looked back at the road.

"What're you smiling about?" Abby said with a charming laugh.

Caspian chuckled as he said, "Nothing, just admiring the view."

"There's not even a view here. It's just buildings upon buildings," Abby said as she gazed outside the window.

After a moment of quietness, Caspian couldn't help but ask, "I haven't asked you this, Abby, but I'm curious as to why you helped me illegally investigate back then. Like, I'm pretty sure you defied what my mom ordered you to do."

Abby just smiled lightly as she replied, "I was actually thorn on that. I didn't want to put you in danger, but I also just couldn't leave you behind because I know you'll do it regardless."

Caspian smiled wryly as he said, "My bad."

With a giggle, Abby then gazed at Caspian and lightly pinched his cheek as she said, "If I didn't love you, I wouldn't have cared."

In a couple more minutes, Caspian and Abby arrived at the judicial branch, and they immediately requested the secretary to let them see the judge.

"Ah, hello. I'm Detective Caspian Ashwood, and this is Sergeant Abigail Quinn. We would like to request a meeting with the judge since we would like a warrant to be approved."

"Ah, hello, Detective. If it's about a warrant, you can just leave it to me, and I'll give it to the judge," the secretary replied, not intending to let them in.

Caspian and Abby's brows knitted as Caspian said, "We need this warrant approved ASAP. We have no time to waste as the murderer is still on the loose. Just please, contact the judge."

With a sigh, the secretary picked up the telephone on the table and contacted the judge. The secretary then beckoned them to sit and wait. The two nodded as they sat down and waited for the secretary to tell them the judge's reply.

After a while of waiting, the secretary told them that the judge was ready for them. The secretary then beckoned them to follow as they were led to the judge's chamber.

With a knock, the judge told them to enter, and the secretary opened the door for them. Caspian and Abby soon entered and were met face-to-face with the judge that had been working for almost sixty years.

"It's nice to meet you, Judge Ericson," Caspian said as he and Abby sat down on the chairs presented to them.

The judge nodded as he said, "To what favor did a renowned detective visit me today?"

"Your honor, we would like to get a warrant to gather all the information about every recorded person's blood type to be able to track down a suspect of about nine murders."

The judge slightly frowned as he said, "What a unique request…. You know, you could've just left the warrant to my secretary, and it would've been approved in about ten days."

Caspian smiled bitterly as Abby replied, "Yes, your honor, but that would take too long. We suspect that more murders will happen, and we won't be able to prevent it from happening."

"We just want to capture that murderer, your honor," Caspian added. Caspian then grabbed all of the affidavits the captain and Scarlet gave him and showed it to the judge.

The judge then read through them, and after some thought, he placed them down.

The judge sighed as he grabbed the warrant, signed it, and stamped it. He then said, "Here. I've heard about those unique murders. The torso exploded, and no traces. Well, I'll approve this warrant, and you can go ahead and do whatever you want."

Caspian and Abby nodded with a smile as they stood up and said their goodbyes to the judge.

They then left the place and went back to the car. Caspian then looked at Abby as he said, "Should we head to the hospitals immediately, or should we contact the team first."

Abby contemplated about it as she said, "I think we should contact them first. After that, we should contact the hospitals so that they'll prepare it first."

Caspian nodded as he said with a wry expression, "I'll leave contacting the hospitals to Scarlet. Let's head to the station first. I just remembered that I have a pile of paperwork I have to finish."

Abby laughed as she said, "I bet you're gonna have work depression again."

Caspian chuckled as he heard that. He then started the car and replied, "Why would I get work depression? I could just fuck you and get rid of it."

Abby blushed slightly as she gave a small punch on Caspian's shoulder. "Fuck off."

"What? So you can tease me, but I can't tease you?" Caspian said with a loud laugh.

"Bastard… stop making sense," Abby said jokingly.

The conversation then went on as they drove back to the station.
