Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Attack

It was a quiet night, and Caspian was sleeping soundly in his room. But unbeknownst to him, a lurking danger was approaching him.

The window in Caspian's room suddenly opened despite being locked. As it opened, a faint sound of metal tearing was heard, but it was so minimal that one couldn't notice unless they were giving their complete attention.

A figure clad in black entered the room through the open window. The figure then started approaching Caspian slowly, making sure not to make any sounds.

The moment it was right next to Caspian, it hurriedly took action and reached for Caspian's mouth with a handkerchief doused in chloroform.

But suddenly, its hand was grabbed by someone. A rush of adrenaline hit the intruder as they looked up and saw that the door was opened and there was a person right next to him.

"You bastard…!" Abby's voice was heard, instantly causing the intruder to dodge an incoming attack from Abby.

"YOU…!" The intruder exclaimed while grabbing the knife they hid in a sheath on their leg.

The intruder then instantly lunged toward Abby. What he didn't expect, however, was Abby hitting their jaw in a split second.

This caused the figure to stagger as it retreated slightly. It then touched its jaw as it exclaimed, "You're a beastm–!"

Abby's eyes glowed as she no longer held her punches back. As if as fast as sound, she rushed at the intruder and swung her fist lightly, making sure to hit the intruder in the gut.

As Abby hit the intruder with such a strong force, the wind was knocked out of their lungs. However, although the intruder was knocked down, Abby took no chances as she kicked the intruder on the head.

The force was enough to knock the intruder out, but Abby grabbed one of Caspian's crutches and stabbed the intruder in the head with enough force to pass through the skull, but she kept stabbing the head until it was turned to mush, instantly killing them.

Abby wiped the beads of sweat that were sliding down her cheek as she glanced at Caspian. She was relieved to see that he was still asleep.

But suddenly, another noise resounded, causing Abby to turn her head back. Two more intruders entered and rushed toward her, but they were somewhat different this time. Despite being clad in black, you could clearly see their veins through their clothing swelling. Their eyes were bloodshot, and their irises were painted black with blood red.

They crazily swung their knives at Abby at high speeds. Fortunately, Abby was skilled enough to dodge them, but one of the intruders rushed to get Caspian, causing her to grit her teeth. After a quick punch on the person she was fighting against, she kicked the other one trying to get Caspian.

Seeing that they were at a far enough range, Abby quickly opened Caspian's drawer and found a Glock 22 with a fifteen-round capacity. Almost having no time to react, Abby turned around to see one of the intruders lunging at her. She immediately fired two shots at the intruder's torso since she had no time to aim properly.

As it was not silenced, Caspian woke up immediately. Although Caspian would usually be in a daze, he knew what he heard were gunshots, so he instantly took cover. He saw Abby confronting two people and one dead body on the ground.

"Abby, what happened!?" Caspian shouted as he saw the gun in Abby's hand. Caspian remembered that he had a spare pistol, so he opened the drawer on his side and grabbed the Smith & Wesson M&P 9 he had concealed. He grabbed the magazines and put them all in his pockets.

He didn't hesitate to shoot as he saw Abby getting cornered by the intruders, so he shot the one closest to her immediately. Albeit not being a headshot due to being in a rush, Caspian managed to push the intruder back.

"Caspian, go and run!" Abby screamed as she aimed her handgun properly and shot the one Caspian knocked back on the head twice to ensure he was dead.

"What!?" Caspian exclaimed.

"I have no time to explain. Just go!" Abby shouted as she shot the intruder who was left standing.

Suddenly a few more intruders entered the room through the window, and Abby managed to shoot three of them, but two more jumped in.

However, Caspian didn't listen as he shouted, "No, I'll help!"

"Goddamnit, Caspian, you're injured!" Abby said worriedly.

"And if I don't help, you'll be the one in trouble!" Caspian shouted as he shot the two intruders.

Seeing that no one else was coming, Caspian breathed a sigh of relief. However, Abby shouted, "Don't relax yet!"

The intruders who were shot stood up. Caspian couldn't believe his eyes as he shouted, "What!? How are they alive!"

Abby gritted her teeth as she maneuvered to Caspian and swung his arm around her shoulder. "LET'S GO!!"

Caspian immediately nodded as he shot three of the intruders in the process. As they left in a hurry, Caspian asked, "Did you get the other mags?"

"Yeah, let's get the fuck out of here!" Abby said as she started the car. The intruders' eyes were filled with bloodlust as they rushed towards the car. Caspian then opened the window and shot at least five times.

Abby then stomped on the accelerator while pulling out her phone. She then dialed a number, but a sudden gunshot sounded and broke her phone. Caspian and Abby were completely filled with adrenaline as their blood boiled from the life-and-death experience.

As they looked in the direction where the shot came from, they saw a car driving right next to them who were still clad in black. Caspian knew they had to be eliminated, so he just fired his gun at least four times, but unfortunately, none of it hit due to the high speeds.

"Step on the gas, Abby!" Caspian shouted as he shot again, barely missing the shooter's head, but fortunately, it hit their arm, causing them to drop the pistol they were holding.

Abby then changed gears, and she drove even faster as Caspian shot one more time. He tried to shoot again but realized he had run out of ammo. He quickly grabbed the magazine he had in his pocket and reloaded it.

Caspian then looked at the gas meter and saw that their gas was going down at a fast rate. "Wait, this was full yesterday! We have a leak!"

Caspian quickly glanced at the speed meeter and saw that they were going faster than a hundred miles per hour but were also low on gas. Caspian couldn't help but say, "Shit, can we reach the police station with this?"

"We have to try," Abby was quiet, but she gritted her teeth as she tried to think of where they could go. Caspian then looked back to see that the people who were shooting at them were more than a hundred meters away, which was good, but they could still catch up.

"Who are those fucks?" Caspian asked as he breathed deeply. He then quickly glanced at Abby and saw that her hand was bleeding. He then asked worriedly, "Are you okay?"

"I-I'm fine. Just stay put. I'll try to find a place where we can hide," Abby said as she gave a quick glance at the amount of gas they had left. She quickly gave up on the idea of going to the station as she steered in the complete opposite direction, heading toward the abandoned hospital.

"What the fuck are they? They were shot in the head, but they still stood up!" Caspian exclaimed, his heart beating quickly.

"I don't know, I just heard some noise in your room, so I peeked and saw one attempting to chloroform you," Abby said as she drove even faster while looking at the rear-view mirror.

"Shit," If Caspian had one particular fear, it was fighting something he had no information of, someone or something unknown. He was sure that those weren't humans. After all, a normal person dies when shot in the head or in the heart.

They were nearing the abandoned hospital, but a shot suddenly resounded, completely blasting their tire open. Abby struggled to steer the car as they came into a crash. Fortunately, it was only the side of the car.

Being in shock was a liability, so Caspian and Abby immediately left the car and tried to find cover. Gunshots were constantly chasing them as the enemy approached at a fast pace. "They got a high-caliber weapon!"

Caspian and Abby gritted their teeth as they struggled to reach the abandoned factory since Caspian had to be supported because of his fractured bone due to a gunshot. Fortunately, it was pretty close, so they hurriedly tried to find a place to hide in the abandoned hospital.

Suddenly, a massive explosion sounded, similar to that of a car exploding. Abby and Caspian knew that they had either destroyed their own car or they crashed. Of course, the two of them would rather believe the latter.

They heard multiple footsteps as they hid, causing them to be stiff. Caspian then whispered, "Based on the footsteps… there are at least twelve of them…. We have to find a way to get out of here without alerting them."

A figure then started assigning the other figures places to investigate. It seemed that that particular figure was the leader of said group. Caspian and Abby peeked lightly and observed quietly, afraid that they were gonna make a sound.

The door in the room they were hiding blasted open as they hid. Although their footsteps were pretty quiet, Caspian and Abby could clearly feel where they were.

Caspian then made signs that signified to ambush them. Abby nodded as they waited for them to approach. Finally, they were at the spot Caspian and Abby hid in.

As the door opened, Caspian and Abby jumped at the two figures and started to choke them with their arm, making sure they didn't make a sound. The two struggled, but fortunately, Caspian and Abby pinned them down to the ground, causing them to be unable to move around.

Abby then grabbed something weighty and started smashing the two figures' heads, causing Caspian to feel slightly sick, but if this stopped them from rising up again, it had to be done.

As that was done, Caspian and Abby slowly left the room, holding their pistols in their hands. They slowly moved out and headed to the exit without alerting anyone.

Finally, after a long and gruesome time, they got out, but they stayed cautious. Just as they were about to go, one of the figures shouted, "They're outside! Kill the woman and capture that man!"

The figures that were chasing them instantly sprung into action, donning rifles that seemed to be MP5s and MP7s. They aimed and started shooting. Despite Abby and Caspian being fast, they were still human. They could never be as fast as a speeding bullet.

Abby and Caspian then jumped on some stone that they saw and hid behind it. Both of them then started shooting. After seven shots, Abby ran out of ammo as she hadn't reloaded earlier, so she quickly reloaded and started shooting again.

As they shot, Caspian grew more and more confused as despite how many bullets hit the heads of these figures, they still didn't die. His heart was beating incredibly fast as he didn't know what would happen next.

They had no way to contact any reinforcements, so they had anxious faces. Caspian couldn't help but think, 'Can we survive this…?' as they ran out of ammo.

Abby gritted her teeth as the figure shouted, "Don't hold back; start shooting properly. Even if that detective gets severely injured, I'm sure the boss won't mind as long as he's alive!"

The figures had bright smiles as their bloodshot eyes turned completely red. They rushed at the two, and Caspian and Abby had no choice but to try and run.

Caspian looked back and saw that most of them were aimed at Abby, so he quickly jumped to push Abby, causing him to get shot multiple times, rendering him severely injured and on the verge of death.

One of the figures then hurriedly grabbed Caspian and stomped on him, injuring him further. Suddenly, the figure who stomped on him stabbed him straight in his liver causing him to scream. At the edge of consciousness, Caspian simply mouthed a word at Abby, "Run…!"

As Caspian's consciousness faded, he had a slight glimpse of Abby. She had a face full of rage, her blonde hair brightly glowing gold. Abby then turned towards the figures, her eyes glowing lightly like a lion's might.

"You're all… DEAD!"
