As the sound of a Great Hammer slamming into the ground rang out, Lily's sickles sunk into the thick neck of a Dilophosaurus from either side.
It cried, and the fringes of its severed frills raised up on instinct, causing a spurt of flood to fly into her face, across the bridge of her nose, her cheek, and her forehead.
An instant later, her sickles crossed each other and severed the beast's head.
She did not share the trepidation of those around her.
The beasts had taken away someone dear from her last year. So this year, she would repay them in full. The several piles of dead beasts, and the several cuts and scrapes along her exposed skin spoke of just how hard she had been fighting off the beast tide.
Others would look at her efforts and call her a saint for her hard work, but in reality, she was selfishly enacting revenge on beasts that had nothing to do with what had happened last year.
