Chapter 11 - Basic Weapon Types

Mikhail had certainly played around with weapons in his past life, but… He immediately waved his hand horizontally.

"Not even a little."

Yagnar scratched at his chin.

"Hmm… You've got yourself a unique opportunity, in that case! Tell me, what weapon would you like to learn the basics of?"

Mikhail opened his mouth to speak, but closed it shortly after…

He… Wasn't really sure.

A sword? A bow? Maybe a hammer like Mog?

Shaking his head, he ultimately decided that he would need to make an informed decision. Namely, that he needed to see the options he had available to him right now.

"Uh, that depends… What weapons do you have on hand right now?"

Yagnar looked at him like he was an idiot for a second, but remembered his strange case of amnesia and shook his head.

"Give me a second," he said before getting up out of his chair.

He walked over to the door of the carriage and popped it open with a quick punch.

And then… He just kind of stood there with his arms crossed.

"Uh-" Mikhail wanted to ask what he was doing, but the answer was revealed without words when a handful of weapons gently floated out of the carriage on their own.

He went slackjawed as one weapon after the other was lined up side to side, floating in front of him without any input from Yagnar as he casually turned around.

"How are you doing that?!"

Yagnar looked at him with a bit of amusement. "With my Spirit. You'll come to possess such an ability in the future as well… Not anytime soon though, if I'm going to be honest."

"Damn, I really can't wait to do stuff like that…" Mikhail said in passing, before focusing on the weapons displayed before him.

In order from left to right, there were four types of swords, four types of shields, four different blunt weapons, four types of axes, four bows, and lastly, four polearms.

"So, these here are the basic weapon types! The introductory level weapons suitable for rookies such as yourself."

Yagnar then went on to explain how the weapon types were further categorized into size classes. Not weight classes. Because even small weapons could become as heavy as big weapons.

"Yeah but, how?"

"Magic," Yagnar said sarcastically. "Listen, don't worry about that. That's {Evolver} Tier stuff we're talking about there. You need to focus on the fundamentals for now."

Mikhail nodded, keeping quiet as Yagnar continued his explanation.

"So, we'll be going over all the weapon classes from small to big. And, respecting this little left to right display I've put before you, I'll be starting with swords."

Yagnar made the short sword float directly in front of Mikhail, explaining how its compact size made it easy to wield in tandem with other weapon types, or even another sword. How it could unleash a flurry of attacks easily.

He then brought it back and put the Longsword before Mikhail. He explained that this class could also be wielded with other weapons, but that unlike the Shortsword, the Longsword could be held in both hands to put more power into an individual's attack.

Next up came the Broadsword.

Yagnar explained how this class of sword could not be wielded with other weapons effectively. But, to make up for that shortcoming, it was far more powerful than the previous class. And not only that, it was still under the wielder's control.

Last in the realm of swords was the Greatsword.

This class of sword sacrificed control and manueverability in exchange for unmatched power output within the sword realm. It was unwieldy… But at the same time, the easiest to use.

"Any of these catch your attention, Mikhail?"

"I'd like to learn about the others before making my decision."

Yagnar nodded, a surprised expression flashing on his face as he brought the Greatsword back to the ensemble of swords, shifting it to the end of the line up after the polearm.

Then, the shields took their place in front of Mikhail, and Yagnar explained the shield classes one after the other.

The first in the list was a buckler shield, the smallest of the four shields, round in shape. This shield was perfectly paired with any of the small class weapons, being a boon for fast fighters, and even good on their own when used as projectile type weapons.

Following the small class shield was the Parmula Shield. It had the same round shape as the buckler shield, but was a good deal larger, looking like it could cover Mikhail's entire torso with ease. This one was good for bashing heads and parrying attacks, and was also perfectly paired with weapons below its size class or on its size class.

Then came the third shield, a Kite Shield. It was, as its name implied, shaped like a kite. And it was almost as big as Mikhail was.

It went from the bottom of his neck down to his ankles. This shield could only be paired with lower size class weapons, but boasted much more powerful bashing power than the previous size class.

Last up for the shields was the Tower Shield

This shield was bigger than Mikhail was! It could not be paired with anything, it was difficult to carry around, and it turned one into a sitting duck if their opponent was using a ranged weapon. But, it boasted not only the strongest defence, but the strongest offensive power of the shields.

"You can dish out some serious damage with this thing!" Yagnar said before putting the shields at the end of the line and moving the blunt weapons into position.

In order, he was shown a Mace, a Stave, a Club, and then finally a Great Hammer.

Yagnar outlined their strengths and weaknesses in nearly the exact same fashion he had done for the swords, with the only real difference being some of his casual prose.

And then came the axes. The Throwing Axe. The Hand Axe. The Battle Axe. And lastly, the Great Axe… But again, they were outlined in much the same way the swords had been outlined.

Obviously, there was a huge difference between swords, hammers, and axes… But Yagnar was giving a very, very simplified explanation of each weapon's strengths and weaknesses.
