Chapter 4 - Cursed

"A perfectly good cake wasted." Ash faceplammed.

Grey's widened eyes stared at the harrowing image portrayed on the cracked mirror before him.

It reflected dark hideous veins formerly hidden by the dim light of the apartment aggressively crawling up the faces of his parents.

" Guys, what's wrong with your faces?"

Grey turned worriedly to glance at the faces of his parents.

" What do you mean by that kid, I look just as dashing as ever," Ash said, looking at his visage in the mirror.

"Also don't try to change the topic, why did you drop the cake?"

" Can't you see the veins?"

Grey asked, feeling even more distressed.

" It's alright, Grey. You're probably just tired after everything that happened today."

Denise tried to comfort him, placing her hands on his shoulders.

Grey turned to stare at the face of his once beautiful mother, her formerly luscious hair was now no different from a patch of withered wool. The veins had practically consumed her face at this point, turning what was once pretty into a swollen labyrinth of black and yellow. The most terrifying fact was that she didn't seem to notice anything.

" Grrr...ey w..hy do you look scar..ed."

What was meant to be the comforting voice of a mother became no different from the growl of a beast.

Grey's body immediately trembled, he pushed his mom as he stumbled away from what he used to call his mother.

" Grey that's a very rude thing to do to your mother. Apologize now." groaned a grotesque head that a terrified Grey could only assume used to be his father.

Grey's body shivered as his back hit the corner of the room, he couldn't run.

"It's alright Grey, don't mind your father." the former body of Denise turned her face to Grey leading some of the rigid black veins on her face to snap, leaking whitish yellow pus on what used to be her face.

This was the last straw, Grey couldn't hold himself any longer. He started retching on the living room floor.

At this sight, what used to be the body of Denise rushed to check if her son was fine. Grabbing him up from the shoulder, she pulled the now dry heaving Grey to face her.

" Wh...at's wrrrr...ong Shhhw...eetie?" She croaked, giving a consoling smile that tore her lips and cheeks in the process.

Grey fearfully looked at the unholy creature he used to call his mother with tears in his eyes.

"look at yourself." Grey choked, covering his. mouth.

" Huh..." Denise paused for a moment, staring into her terrified son's eyes.

She didn't see any problem with the woman staring back at her from his gray retinas. She just seemed to have finished exercising as her veins were bulging a little bit but... Denise never exercised.

The woman within the retinas started gradually changing. A murky black coloration quickly infected her bulging veins making them crawl up her pretty face. The luscious hair on her head slowly withered and started falling off, as the veins burst releasing pus. Slowly, but surely the woman changed to resemble the person Grey was seeing.

Denise's eyes gaped in horror. She pushed her son away, dragging her dying body to the mirror.

The horrid image she saw in her son's eyes was still staring back at her.

Her mouth opened as she tried to scream but nothing came out, her throat had already degraded to such a point.

Gradually, Denise closed her mouth exhausted from trying to scream. Turning and resting her back on the mirror, she gazed at her son sitting in the corner of the room. He still looked scared and confused, Denise's face struggled a bit before finally stopping on a sad smile as a tear dripped from the eye facing him.

She didn't move after that.

Grey's mind froze, He couldn't process what just happened. Ash immediately moved and embraced Denise's corpse, the sudden movement finally nocked Grey out of his daze.

"MOM!!"

Grey cried as he ran to meet the remains of his mother being caressed by his dying father.

He embraced his father, tears streaming from his eyes.

"D-Dad what happened to you??"

Not answering him, Ash slowly adjusted his son's arms from his back. As he laid his back on the mirror, next to the remains of his wife.

A strange emotion flashed across Ash's face as he saw his son,

" I don't know son," Ash said with a weary sigh.

His condition was getting worse, his body had already reached the stage Denise was at before she collapsed in front of the mirror.

"Don't worry dad, you'll be fine. I'll...I'll call 999." Resting his shaky hands on Ash's shoulder, Grey moved to open his holoscreen.

" Don't waste your energy kid. I don't have much Ti-*cough* *cough*ft" Ash coughed up bloody phlegm.

"Dad!!"

Grey squeezed Ash's shoulders.

" If you want me to die faster kid, just sa-*cough*." Ash glared at grey.

"Sorry." Grey retracted his hands from Ash.

He paused as he glanced dejectedly at his parent's bodies,

" Who did this to you??" Grey asked with reddened eyes.

Ash bent his head, not meeting his son's gaze as a pained look flashed across his face. An emotion Grey couldn't understand was lurking in his eyes.

"It was a Cursed, wasn't it??" Grey grabbed his father's arms as anger creeped into his voice.

There was no reply from Ash.

"Dad!!"

Grey shook his father's shoulders.

Ash raised and laid his head on the mirror weakly as he looked at Grey again.

" It's alright Dad, whoever they are, I'll find them and.....make them pay." Grey hugged his parents as a newfound motivation entered his eyes.

" I know you'll find him, but *cough* hopefully you'll learn to forgive him. I certainly have." Ash wearily muttered.

Grey couldn't understand what his father was saying, but he didn't have time to speculate as Ash continued speaking.

"I guess this is it*cough*...See you on the other side,*cough*Grey*cough**cough**wheeze*."

His chest stopped moving.

"DAD!!"

There was no reply.

"DAD!!.....please."

"please."

Grey slowly reduced to tears as he sat in the dim decrepit apartment hugging the corpses of his parents.

'No..... I'll avenge them.'

Using his sleeves to wipe his tears, Grey raised his head to look in the mirror but.... the person it reflected wasn't him.

It was a harrowing replica of his body that had extremely pale skin, ghastly green eyes, and untidy Ash colored hair.

It was at that moment something clicked in his mind, and finally, a hint of dark realization flickered across his eyes. Immediately his eyes dulled and he slumped on the bodies of his parents.

*Knock**knock**knock*

" CP here, open up."
