ARIANA'S POV

I hurried back to class because I wanted to tell Melanie everything so that we could make efforts to know why he wasn't in school. I tapped Melanie from behind, she looked upset. Probably because I interrupted her conversation with the dude she was talking to. There was this responsibility I felt I had to protect Melanie from babies in the bodies of young men, she was quite the flirt. And none of her relationships went past a month.

"Arrriii, not now. I was having it good with him. He's a really nice senior." She whined, stomping her feet.

"Girlfriends before male hoes." I grabbed her hand, taking her to the female's restroom.

"What?" She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.

"You know what you did Melanie, you know." I spoke with a sense of seriousness as hurt laced my tone.

"Huh?" She looked so confused.

"I could never believe you would do this." I didn't look at her this time.

"What? I didn't do anything."

"You didn't do anything?" I scoffed.

"Alright alright, in the fifth grade I flushed your goldfish down the toilet. Look it wasn't my..."

"Holy beeswax what the F?" Her words came as a huge surprise to me. Goldie was the only pet my patents allowed me to have.

"He died while I fed him cookies. I didn't want you to know. I've always felt guilty about flushing Goldie down the toilet but swears it wasn't intentional."

"You freaking lied to me. You said he was stolen. I kept Goldie with you for the weekend, he dies and you bury him without my consent." I spoke, upset.

"I thought you knew, why are you looking so surprised?." Melanie pouted her lips in a frenzy.

"No dumbo. I was just tryna pull yo legs. I'll be doing this often. The real reason I brought you here is totally different." I smirked.

"Oh you're gonna get it." Melanie chuckled softly.

"Don't!" I widened my eyes knowing what she was going to do.

She sniggered a bit."You can't avoid the impossible."

"Hey! Don't forget you did me wrong with Goldie." I said as a form of defense.

"Fine." She jeered playfully. " So why'd you me here?"

"Carver." I said almost inaudibly.

"I knew you liked him." She giggled and I felt like hitting her hard.

"No, I don't."

"Shuussshhh! Don't deny love."

"Let's be serious here Melanie. I'm worried that he hasn't been in school, and after all he's done for me the least I could do is try to know if he's okay." I told her.

"Yeah, you're right. I also thought about it in class. Although, he could be that he felt like cutting school or something. " She nodded.

"True, but still I mean what if his parents decide to change schools because he got bruised yesterday."

"You're right, that could be the reason." She gasped, reasoning with me. "Still doesn't mean you're not attracted to him." She grinned widely. I wanted to tear off her head at that point, I'm not attracted to Carver.

Or are you?

"Oh shut up subconscious" I groaned inwardly.

"But how? We don't know any friends of his. No number. We don't know where he lives."

Melanie was right. I thought about it too. I knew nothing about him. I heaved a sigh as I began pacing around the bathroom. I wasn't thinking straight. I couldn't think, it didn't feel like I could. My brain seemed to be asleep at the moment. I felt tensed. How could I not know anything about someone who had saved me from time to time? Now that I thought about it, we never had a proper conversation.

"We could ask the principal." Melanie suggested.

" The principal?" I ridged my brows. No way was I going to her office or so I thought.

"Me-la-nie stoooppp." I begged my best friend who kept dragging me down the hallway. Eyes turned as I screamed for her to stop. It seemed embarrassing so I just stopped trying and went along with her. I didn't like seeing the principal for reasons best known to me.

"This is the only solution we have." Melanie said knocking the principal's door. I got nervous, feeling suffocated almost immediately.

"Come in." The principal said from the other side of the door. We cautiously opened the door more like it creaked open.

A slim grey haired frustrated looking woman adjusted her small framed glasses looking at us. Principal Will was probably in her late forties. She looked at us scornfully before resuming to the papers she was working on before we came in.

"What do you two want?" She asked blandly.

"Hum. Mrs Will we came to make some enquires about a friend of ours. He's not been in school for a while now an..."

"Don't mean he got hit by a truck or he's dead." Mrs Will cut me in.

"Well, anything could have happened to him. Isn't it the duty of the school to also ensure it's students welfare?" Melanie took over.

She looked up slightly." And is it your obligation to teach me my duties miss Carter?"

"Sorry ma'am." We muttered.

"We only need his contact or address we're worried about him." I spoke up.

"Well I don't got time for that." She responded blankly.

"Please Mrs Will. We'll say we're welfare student representatives from the school and you sent us to check on him. Think about it, you'll get praised and it'll add to the school's reputation." Melanie told her.

"Left drawer by the side check for your class's number. Look into it and look for the file of the person you want, look at the first page only everything you need is there or get ready to face the punishment for going through school property without permission. Put my things back in order or detention for a month." She said, still not meeting our gaze, but that was real wack, she told us we could look at it. I knew that the files contained a lot of personal information about the students in school, and honestly carver's private life was none of my business.

"Crazy witch." I mumbled.

"Do you have something to say Miss miller?"

"No ma'am."

"Well go on then."

"Yes, Mrs Will." We chorused as we moved to the big drawer painted grey, looking more like a safe without a combination lock.

"Found it." Melanie screamed in Victory as she found the class's number.

"Carter. Keep it down or get out of my office." Mrs Will warned sternly.

"Sorry, Mrs Will." Melanie bit her lower lip.

We gently searched until we found Nathaniel's file. We took pictures of the address and numbers on his file. We got what we needed and gently returned it leaving the principal's office carefully.

"We'll go after school." Melanie said and I nodded agreeing with her.

We finished classes with spit balls and cussing from, you know who. I rushed to tell Esme where I was going so she could tell Heather too. Melanie's chauffeur arrived just in time to get us. Carver's house wasn't hard to find. It was only a few blocks from mine anyway.

His house looked cute. Painted with a color that looks like faint blue, grey colored roofing with flowers everywhere including the front porch which had a red sofa on it. I always passed by his place, and had no idea he lived in there.

We looked at each other waiting for one of us to press the door bell. Melanie grunted, she knew I wasn't going to do it. We would have spent decades there if she didn't make a move.

Not quite long a tall older looking version of Carver opened the door. They had the same beautiful green orbs and hair, except his didn't fall. His hair was disheveled. He wore a black tank top with grey joggers.

"Hi. We're...."

"Nathaniel?"We were taken aback by his response. He laughed at the look on our faces.

"He's told me about you two. Come in." He said ushering us in. " You're exactly as he described you two to be. He's gonna get upset with me for this, don't tell him." He winked.

I saw Melanie staring like she saw a ghost. Her lips were slightly parted. Melanie kept staring at him as he went in. It was so obvious she was gawking, crush at first sight. Melanie fell too easy, and it got me scared all the time. I always had to look out for her so she wouldn't end up with someone who wasn't worth it. Looking at her experience with dating and her family. I was always the big sister to her in that aspect while in every other way, she was bolder and fierce.

I nudged her and she winked at me. "He's even hotter." She whispered. I shook my head, rolling my eyes at her. He was hotter no doubt and unlike Carver he was quite the talker.

The interior of his house was painted white with brown sofas and flowers in the living room. The television and it's shelf was huge. Every other entrance or passage way in the house were covered with silky brown curtains. I kept looking around the living room from time to time until I heard Carver's voice.

"You two?" He creased his forehead. I blinked at him repeatedly. His long hair was rough. His eyes looked dull and tired, there was a white bandage rapped around his leg and right arm. The same one that got hurt the other day. It was my fault he looked this way. I felt bad for everything. It was my fault and this time I was going to make up for it.
