Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: Forgotten Memory

Mira walked along the road her phone pressed against her ear listening to her friend speaking to her.

"What? Did you really agree? or am I hallucinating because of anesthesia?" Helia asked to confirm her friend's words.

"Fortunately no," Mira muttered, the sound of her step felt heavy and tired. She could hear the sound of the opening apartment lock coming from the other side of the call.

"Did you just get home?" Mira asked, changing the subject.

"Yeah, I will go straight to bed because this headache is killing me ," Helia groaned loudly onto her pillow. Mira stopped in front of Reid Villa. Her eyes looked at the building. The lights inside seemed brighter compared to how dark and dim the streets looked. Everything seems messed inside her head. The wedding then the prank call she got earlier. It was getting harder for her to catch up with. Many things changed in just a week.

"Wait! Did you just change the subject?" Helia's questions snapped Mira out of her thoughts.

"I will talk to you later," Mira

mumbled and hung up the phone before walking inside the villa. She climbed the stairs slowly trying her best not to make any sound.

"Are you avoiding me? She heard her grandma's voice from behind. She stopped walking on her tracks and let out an exasperated sigh.

"No, actually I am avoiding myself," she turned around to face her grandmother.

"I will not change my mind Mira," her grandma told her firmly, giving her a stern look.

"I am tired grandma, I need rest," Mira replied with a fake smile plastered on her lips. She knew that grandma's words wouldn't change but she needed time to process all these things in her head.

She strides towards her room without sparing any glance.

Recently She has been overwhelmed with so many emotions. It is getting harder to even recognize herself, the person who destroyed her happy family, whom she hated, despised. She was turning into the same person as her step mother. All she needed right now was just this night to end faster.

...

The next morning Mira woke up, her body stiff, eyes glued shut and her head hurting. She had been hard on herself these past days. She had been immersing herself with office work that she didn't took much rest.

She slowly sat up and rubbed her head. Her head suddenly began throbbing with pain and she pulled her hands towards the night stand to pick her phone up. She opened her phone and went by scrolling her ID when her eye landed on the article that says.

THE CEO OF GRANDIOSE GROUP COMMITTED SUICIDE!!

Her hands started sweating and her lips quivered as she read the headline. Her breathing quickened making her gasp for the air.

"It can't be possible," Mira muttered to herself . She felt a sharp pain in her chest which was accompanied by aching with every breath she took. It was as if her heart was trying to escape from her chest. She felt light headed and nauseous. She wanted to scream but couldn't.

RING! RING!

The caller ID of yesterday was displayed on her phone again. She quickly answered the phone call.

"Did you like the surprise?" He asked, his voice sounded muffled on the other line, as though he had covered the phone with something.

"You killed him?" Mira asked, still trying to control her breathing. Her vision was starting to blur from all the sweat gathering at her forehead.

"No, he committed suicide just like your mother did," he replied. She could hear him laughing hysterically. Mira closed her eyes.

"No, it isn't possible. My grandma told me she died in an accident," she tried to explain to him.

"Oh yes, that was a very clever idea," he laughed. He continued. She had been lying to you."

He laughed, he mocked her. His laughter was echoing over the telephone making her feel belittled.

"No, it is impossible," she repeated these words in her head. It's not possible!!!

"The truth you think you know is merely a half-truth, a fabrication concocted by the Reid Family to deceive you, " he explained and laughed over her because she had been deceived by her own trusted people.

"No!" Mira exclaimed. The image of a woman covered in a pool of blood in front of her flashed through her mind.

"No, this isn't true!" She screamed, throwing her phone on the wall with a loud crash sound. She covered her ears as the ringing echoed through her ears. She gasped for air desperately. Her head was hurting and her vision became blurry. Her hands trembled as she reached for the glass of water that was placed on her bed side table but she failed and instead the glass slipped through her fingers shattering on the floor into thousands of pieces.

Hearing the sound of breaking glass her grandma rushed into the room. Her eyes wide with concern.

"Grandma!" Mira stumbled off the bed, her bare foot crunching on the broken glass scattered across the floor. She left a trail of bloody footprints as she ran towards her grandma, who stood frozen in the doorway. Mira flung her arms around her grandma.

"What happened Mira?" Grandma asked, her voice trembling with worry.

"I... I... don't know," Mira tumbled out barely audible whispers as her head kept spinning with dizziness. Grandma's gaze fell on the blood footprints on the floor and she called the butler swiftly.

"Vincent, come here quickly!" The butler's urgent footsteps echoed outside of the room.

"Grandma, save me! I can't breathe," Mira muttered, her eyes drowsed with darkness. She could feel the warmth of grandma's hand caressing her cheeks and the tears streaming down her cheeks
