"Do you need me to pack anything specific?" Nanny Nancy asked as she packed Avery's suitcases. She was devoted to making sure the clothes in the suitcase were what Avery wanted.
"Oh Nana, you don't have to pack everything, I'll just get new clothes shoes and stuff, it's no a big deal" Avery Musk replied trying to update her fans on her social media.
After about five minutes, she set her phone aside and moved into her closet to select what she wanted to wear.
It was a black walk-in closet, one too big for an average family. It had three wings: East, West and North. The East wing housed all her clothes. That wing was divided into big compartments and the clothes sitting pretty in each compartment were organised according to type of designer she owned -Givenchy, Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, etc. Her shoes took over the West wing, it housed almost 650 different design and colour of shoes. Her bags took over the North wing of her closet, all 700 different designs. There was a glass compartment in the middle of the closet, it housed all her jewelries. At the south corner of the closet was a huge mirror laid against the wall close to the entrance of the closet. In front of the mirror was a single sofa covered in a black velvet material.
"By the way, can you make sure these clothes on this side of my closet are ready for the next charity? They've been here for almost six months and it's taking up good space" Avery started inspecting the clothes she wanted to give away.
"Sure thing" Nana replied as she continued packing Avery's clothes into the third Louis Vuitton suitcase.
Avery's phone rang.
"Nana, can you see who's calling?" She called out from her closet.
Looking over the phone, Nana saw the photo of Evie Grey, one of Avery's friends. She took the phone over to Avery and said, "It's Evie"
"Oh" was all Avery said as she took the phone from Nana. It was a FaceTime video call from Evie. She proceeded to accept the video call.
"So? What do you think about these boots" Evie said immediately from the phone.
"Totally fabs! Are you wearing them for the flight?" Avery asked as she sets the phone down on a stool against the large mirror in her closet to continue her own dress up with final wardrobe decisions from her friend.
The video call was joined by their friend, Dixie Bach. The trio had been friends since pre-school and had been inseparable since then. And now, they're all attending the same ivy league college; Brasswell College in New York.
"Did you tell the agent that we were flying in today?" Avery asked Dixie, whose parents had made arrangements with one of their real estate agents in New York for the girls to stay at while in school.
Dixie nodded and said, "Yeah, we talked this morning but I'll still text her on our way to the airport. Meanwhile, I hope you're ready, the driver is headed to Evie's, we're coming to yours in a minute"
The girls all lived in Bel Air, a community in California. They lived some blocks away from each other but in the same neighborhood.
"Sure. Nana should be done by now" Avery said as she peered over to see her suitcases packed up but Nana had left her room. "I was right, she's done. Now, what do you guys think of this sweats? I think the pink looks too pink-ish" she continued as she looked into the mirror at her outfit.
"Absolutely" the girls said unison. She changed into an oversized beige colored Chanel round neck sweater and a thigh-high boot heels of the same brand. She packed her long wavy blonde hair into a ponytail. After looking into the mirror, she liked the fit and her friends agreed that she looked okay.
"Freshman!" A deep familiar voice called out from her room door. It was Aubrey, her elder brother. "Looks like you're all set and ready for college" he continued as he looked at the suitcases. A giggle coming from the closet told him she was in there. He moved in and saw her talking to her friends. "Oh, a giggling sesh with the giggle buddies" he teased as he moved in to roughen her hair, a common practice he does to annoy his little sister.
"Stop it, you oaf!" She responded as she hit his hands and moved to get her hair re-done.
"Relax, you still look like a perfect mess" he continued teasing her. She just rolled her eyes. "Hey ladies" he said as he turned to talk to her friends over the video call.
"Hey Brie" they said in unison, a nickname they knew he hated. He just scoffed and rolled his eyes. "I was being too nice by calling y'all ladies", he responded.
"Ugh! What do you want?" Avery asked grabbing her phone away from him.
"To bid farewell to my favorite baby sister, and to give you this necklace that I thought you'd like" he replied bringing out the black Swavroski jewelry case he had in his pocket.
"Awwww" the three girls said in unison.
"Avie, I'm dying to see what it looks like" Dixie sounded excited and curious.
Avery hurriedly opened the case expecting to see a necklace but immediately went pale instead. She threw the box at him and screamed at the top of her lungs as she ran out of her closet and outside her room. Aubrey dropped on the floor laughing hard till his ribs began to hurt.
"Wait, what in the devil's butt did you do, Aubrey?" Evie yelled.
In less than fifteen minutes, the two girls arrived at Avery's family's driveway. They hurried up the stairs leading to the front door of the huge mansion. The front door opened and revealed both of them with the same questioning expression over their faces.
They ignored everyone and ran towards the stairways leading to Avery's room but Avery's loud sob in the living room had them retracing their steps. They ran into the living room to see Avery in her mother's arms.
"What's wrong Avie? What did you see? What did he do?" Evie kept asking questions, then she proceeded to hug Avery.
Dixie looked over at Aurora, Avery's mum who was already consoling her and asked, " What happened to her, Mrs Musk?"
"Well, Aubrey pranked her with a dead bug" Aurora replied trying to calm sobbing Avery.
"It was a huge ass bug! I could've died! That moron almost killed me with his sick joke!" Avery yelled still sobbing.
"I'm so sorry Baby" Aurora replied, still consoling her.
Aubrey came down the stairs sniffing from laughing too hard and walked towards the girls. His 6"3 frame towered them as he tried to apologise and hug Avery who pushed him and yelled, "Get off me idiot!" He moved in and continued apologising.
"It was a fake bug from last year's Halloween". He tried to convince her.
"I don't believe you!" She yelled.
"Look at it" he said unveiling the plastic bug that was now in his hands.
Her friends checked to make sure he was telling the truth while she hid behind her mum.
"It's fake Avery" Dixie called out after inspecting the bug.
"Told ya" Aubrey replied trying to cover up the smirk that was building at the side of his lips. "I do have the real necklace in my pocket though" he continued, reaching into his pocket and bringing out a beautiful minimalist diamond necklace with a wish bone pendant. He proceeded to put it on Avery who was no longer hiding behind her mum.
"Awww, it's perfect!" Evie said after seeing the necklace on Avery's neck.
"I know right?!" Dixie responded as the trio admired the necklace.
"An incomplete wishbone?" Avery enquired, after checking the pendant on the necklace. She looked at Aubrey for an explanation.
"Yeah. It's the longer side of the wishbone. You know, so that anything you wish on it will come to pass or whatever they say about wishbones." He replied. She smiled and ran to embrace her brother.
"Thank you Aubie" She replied grinning excitedly.
"You know, for someone who pranks her the most, you give her the most thoughtful gifts" Aurora replied hugging her children.
"Well, I try." he shrugged as they broke off the hug. Then he stole a glance at Dixie but they quickly looked away from each other.
"You can come visit once in two months" she joked. Everyone laughed but the laughter was cut off by the announcement from Nana.
"Veve, your suitcases are ready and have been packed into the car." She said.
"Oh okay" she replied to Nana as she turned to her friends and asked, "Why don't we take one for IG?"
"You know it!" Evie replied "I'm thinking we should totally take one in front of that mirror by the door. It'll be perfect. And, we could do this thing where we all raise our phones like we're taking a picture but only one person actually does". She continued.
"OMG, that'll be so cute!" We could caption it 'who is really taking the shot, the first to get it right gets a gift?' that will cause quite an engagement" Avery liked the idea.
"And then an individual pics because you need to show off that fine stone on your neck, boo" Evie suggested in a playful sass tone and then she waved her hand.
"Let's do this" Avery echoed as they all moved to the large round mirror hanging by the wall. The mirror was protected by a large round wood around it. It had different inscriptions in different languages. It also had a wooden rack underneath it. There were two large flower vases at each side of the wooden rack on the floor.
The girls looked elegant with Evie wearing an oversized ripped blue denim trousers and a white plain long sleeved shirt, the first three button undone, with only half of the front part of the shirt tucked into the trouser She paired it up with brown ankle boots and her brown curly hair cut a little bit above her shoulder and parted in the middle. Dixie had on a skinny blue jeans that was paired with a white low-neck long sleeve bodycon top and a thigh-high black Dior boots heels.
While the photo session went on, Aurora and Aubrey sat beside each other on the white sofa, Aurora crossed her legs while Aubrey sat in a " half-sitting-half-laid-back" pose.
"So, are they using the jet?" Aubrey asked her brushing his hands through his chestnut brown colored hair. He just had his signature haircut style: disconnected undercut.
"Nope. Evie's dad said the girls could use his jet" She responded as she resumed drinking the wine that she was drinking before Avery ran in crying earlier.
"Oh." After a while, he looked over at her and said, "You look nice mum." She was a 5"10 blonde with the body of a model. With her slim hourglass figure, every curve stayed firm in the right places like she did yoga or pilates everyday. Her bosom looked like she had her body surgically done. Her long legs took prominent length of her body. Her face was the perfect oval shape, sculpted at the jawline. Her face held soft features such as the bluest almond shaped eyes, sculpted nose and a full lips. She was perfect. She was 40 years old but she looked like she was in her late twenties, she looked like the older version of 18 years old Avery but she was an inch shorter than Avery.
"Why, thank you, my love" she replied with a smile, and raised the glass. Aubrey returned the smile. Her phone rang and as she whispered "Sorry, I gotta take this", he knew it was work, it was the same thing with their dad, so he excused himself and went to meet the girls.
"It's been fifteen minutes, how long does it take to get the perfect shot" he teased them but they all rolled their eyes and giggled.
"Every shot is perfect when I'm in it" Avery replied as she moved in to give him a peck on the cheeks. She also leaned over him to bid her mother goodbye, but when she saw her mum was on a call so she just went over to hug her frame from behind, got a peck from her mum, then went outside with her friends.
Outside, she smiled, looked over at her friends and said "it's college time bitches!"
