Chapter 48 - Chapter 48 John's Indian Experience

When he reached his thirties he was feeling old enough. He asked his father to organise a small celebration party declaring his almost retirement and oath of celebacy. But his father denied the request. He sent him to India for a spiritual rebirth. And asked him to stay there for a couple of years. John followed his father's order. He went to India. There he went to Uttarakhand state. He met a lot of Indian sages there. They blessed him with a lot of good lucks. He did not know how he got this urge to hunt animals there in India but wanted to fulfill his urge anyhow. But hunting was illegal in India. He did not want to break the rule of a country he had visited now. He searched news articles of suspicious animal attacks. He got something interesting. Almost one thousand kilometres away from him in the villages of Kashmir a pack of wolves were attacking villagers in frequent intervals. Without any second thought he booked his flight and it took him almost a day to reach Srinagar. Then he took a cab and reached the hilly Hali village where the last attack occurred. It was July month. The temperature there was almost fifteen degree Celsius. The weather forecast had suggested of heavy rainfall. He would hate it if it rained. For it was a full moon night. The days were cool. He chose a hotel in a nearby town. He regularly went to the villages. Made friends with an Indian tourist guide. He was very friendly. He introduced him with special local Kashmiri cuisines like Lamb Yakhni and Goshtaba etc. When John asked about the wolf attacks to him, he gave a very detailed description. The wolves used to come from the hills and at night would attack who would be inside the jungle. Then those wolves became more confident as their number was appearing to be growing magically and they attacked in the nearby towns once too. But that was the case of only once. Otherwise they kept their surprise attacks confined to the villages only. According to the tourist guide Salim, the wolves had attacked fifteen times in one year. Only one young boy had died two months ago. Otherwise no harm to life. They just attacked and made people injured and sacred them, that was all.

John asked, "How many people are harmed or injured by these wolves' pack?"

"Around sixty people." Salim replied.
