Chapter 7 - Awakening II

Amidst the destruction of the Bonesword and the subsequent surprise, another scene unfolded.

I found myself mentally divided between two places - the training field with my fellow classmates and an infinite pocket dimension within my mindspace.

Rest assured, [Oracle Engine] had the ability to navigate both realms with ease.

This was no doubt a beautiful outer space-like realm with no identifiable borders or land masses.

Suspended in a vacuum, simply existing.

I quickly realized that this was a construct of my own mind and not my physical body. As such, it was impervious to harm.

Time seemed to behave differently in this space, and I noted this observation as I drifted through the void.

Suddenly, a feminine voice spoke to me - a voice that seemed to emanate from within my own mind. This was the same voice that had spoken to me previously when I analyzed the Bonesword.

The [Oracle Engine], known as Scentia. It appeared that this voice possessed knowledge of everything I did not, and it was able to answer all of my questions with ease.

Questions. Firstly, I was curious as to how my consciousness is able to exist simultaneously in two distinct locations.

To this, she responded that it was her unique ability to detach thoughts and analyze phenomena. I was further informed that detached thoughts are also subject to the effects of her subskill, [Thought Acceleration].

It thoroughly impressed when she revealed that this particular dimension possessed inter-dimensional time stabilization, allowing it to measure time according to the perception of the Revenant, or myself.

In essence, a mere second in the real world could equate to a year or even a decade in this realm, should I so desire.

Her insights were invaluable.

Supposedly she is a Unique or Tier A+ skill and as such it allows me an unfair amount of knowledge, accelerating my thought processing to about hundreds of thousands.

"So why am I here exactly?"

I was still amazed, I'd never seen something so strange in my life, and yet I was happy.

So happy I wouldn't even question how this was possible, maybe because I may never have gotten such an opportunity had I remained pessimistic.

"This is awesome, how do I make something else happen?"

Scentia did not give me a response, as there was not an applicable answer.

As I was suspended in space, I was approached by an occurrence that I never would have believed could happen in years.

Two structures resembling the heads of Oracles appeared before me, with gleaming white eyes that surged with energy. Their presence constituted the very existence of mana itself.

I was left amazed and speechless. Although I was not familiar with them, I suddenly knew everything about them, thanks to Scentia. These two divine entities were Vesperia and Animus.

"You... are one of three."

The serene voice of Vesperia addressed me, exuding an approachable aura despite her divine status.

Animus, the stern voice of anger, then expressed his disappointment in my inability to comprehend.

However, I shrugged off his comment, still brimming with excitement. "Very well, what is our next course of action?" I proceeded to swim forward in the boundless expanse of this dimension as I spoke.

Yet, they appeared uninterested, opting to remain motionless for the time being.

"We are one of the most powerful beings in the universe.."

"Because we are the most deliberative.."

I didn't understand much of what they meant, but for one thing it was important.

I know, I know, that's a poor representation of what they said but I needed a break to let words cross words. It's not everyday someone is met with this sort of scenario, and truth be told, I was handling it quite well.

"I am Vesperia, the mother and molder of Space.."

"..and I am Animus, the father and molder of Time. You're supposed to be the Revenant!"

The individual known as Animus displayed a certain level of antagonism towards me, which left me feeling a bit perplexed. Prior to our encounter, I had only been made aware of their names through Scentia. As such, I was quite unaware of the nature and purpose of the Revenant that I was meant to embody.

Fortunately, Vesperia, who was much more amiable, kindly informed me that she and Animus had been engaged in eternal observation of the next Revenant, and that I was deemed the most suitable candidate due to my status as a Doppel phenomenon of Luciel De Mevius.

"Doppel phenomenon? What's that?"

I had to ask.

"A Doppel phenomenon occurs when a powerful existence has it's power divided, when this occurs there are numerous variants of the original source and of the numerous variants, only one returns... hence, your name, the Revenant."

Vesperia enlightened me, and quite well too.

I completely understood what she meant. She further made me understand that, in situations where they cannot interfere as they are observers, it becomes the work of the Revenant to do so.

In a sense acting as the corporeal avatar of the gods. I was a reincarnation of Luciel and as such the work has become mine.

Intrigued, I asked why they needed me, I'm one to offer help whichever way I can. But they seemed like pretty strong guys, couldn't they do it on their own.

"We don't necessarily need you, you featherless biped! We had to save you from dying, and it was a close call, we may be omnipotent but we are not truly omnipotent beings... there is a limit to what we can do."

Yes, Animus was right. I almost died it was a call too close to let happen again, because of the miniature mana I possess having it siphoned would have rendered me lifeless.

I was even more indebted to them for their aid and as such I extended my gratitude, which only Vesperia acknowledge.

Sigh, Animus simply scoffed at my gesture of gratitude, it was expected, he didn't look nor sound friendly.

"But why exactly did Luciel choose to do what he did?" I asked.

To my surprise, even they didn't know which is proof of their inherent omniscience.

"We are guided by laws that prevent us from telling you where to go from here as the Revenant, all we can do is observe and interfere when there is a definite motion carried, without this we cannot truly do anything.."

From my point of view they sounded amazing and at the same time useless, but I wasn't planning on telling them that, but they may have known what I was thinking. Ah shit.

I still had numerous inquiries to pose, but my viewpoint had extended millions of light years away from them, as if I were being pulled by a strong force of gravity.

In all likelihood, my time with them had expired, and I had vanished from sight.

I found myself back in real-time, and only a second had passed. This was one of the aspects of magic that I had read about in my father's library.

Before I could even catch my breath, Belitha embraced me out of concern.

Although she did not know what had truly occurred, the bright light was enough to cause her to worry.

They all looked at me in a queer manner.

Alaric on the other hand simply nod his head in greeting, maybe his way of saying I did good. But what exactly does he know I did?

Undoubtedly, it was Rosemarie who bestowed upon me the most peculiar gaze, not one that was arrogant or malicious, but rather one of inquisitiveness.

I was pleased that my actions were not as conspicuous as I had initially presumed, as it is preferable that they remain unaware of the full extent of my actions.

I was already privy to a great deal of information.

As experience has taught me, a man who possesses an abundance of knowledge is destined to be solitary.

"Uh, Belitha...?"

I didn't recognize she was still hugging me so tightly, but she pulled away right after.

Slightly embarrassed too, but I didn't see a reason for her to be, her face turned a bit red and she made some remark about me being careless whilst she averted her eyes.

I mildly smile watching her act in this way.

Still, classes were on...

And what happens next, will shock you...
