Chapter 36 - Wymarc Manor

"Oh no! Sir Nyx!" Gallus panicked. He rushed to my aid dropping the bags and running with a countenance that had tears leaving his eyes. This was the– "I'm gonna lose my job" kind of face.

Taking several acrobatic backward rolls midair, I had a calculated landing spot but I deviated gently from the intended space with a smooth drift on one knee and a hand on the ground to gain traction.

I immediately wore a serious demeanor, "Scentia what's up, why didn't mana sense pick that up?"

[>> Additional skill "mana sense" only accounts for information in the surrounding area using external magicubes as intermediary points of reference to make perceptible data. The attack was performed solely by mana, mana sense settings adjustment has now been tuned to support detection of pure mana concentrates. <<]

With my eyes closed and my palm connected to the earth, I could sense the entire mana within a ten kilometer radius. It gave me a fix on the one who sent the attack for me.

"Got you.."

Just one powerful, explosive dash in a rectilinear path was enough to send me straight for her like an arrow going for the bullseye.

Gallus felt the speed I used to move past him and the rush of wind I carried with me.

Fifteen meters apart and yet I cut it by half the distance.

I appeared in front of my target undetected.

My right arm held up, there was a powerful flint of magma that sparked several times until it became a tempest of flames. But instead of sending this flame down I paused having realized it was a girl, and immediately dispersed the flames.

I'd never hit a woman.

"Nice moves, you must be Nyx.."

She didn't seem fazed about the attack I was about to unleash.

Maybe she was confident that I wouldn't go through with it in the end or she had a counter as well. But given the speed I was moving at, I doubt she could.

The dust trail left from my quick zip to the initial point had yet to dissipate even.

"I'm Hermione Wymarc, pleasure to meet you.."

She was a stunning young woman with light pink hair that gracefully transitioned into hot pink and was pulled into two pigtails.

Her hair was secured with two tubes and a small red clip was placed on the left side of her face. Her light green eyes were captivating and she stood at a petite 150cm tall with glossy lips.

Her delicate figure and thin legs gave her a fragile appearance.

I was frozen in the same position, still very surprised. She'd gone from attacking to praising me.

"Sir Nyx! Sir Nyx! Are you okay!?" Gallus was no longer the silent statue, he was the worrying mother.

He embraced me tightly and almost buried me with his tight, oxygen-restricting hug. And to make matters worse, he donned armor at the time.

"Yeah, I-I'm fine Gallus.." I told him while I fought to escape his tight grip.

His tears had reduced at least, "You were harmed by this barbaric lady I thought you were a goner, but you survived, as expected of my young master!" what I didn't know was that Gallus was the Besimios household Knight which was why he referred to me in such a respectful way.

I'd believed he was hired by the headmaster to keep me safe but it was actually by my adoptive parents. Which would explain why he had that letter to begin with.

"How dare you call me a barbaric lady!? I'll have you know I'm as gentle as a rose!" well her reaction certainly didn't show it.

After we made our way into the mansion, there were numerous workers around the large house, most notably the elven maids.

I hadn't seen any male figures on their family grounds, even the guards were females. The thought of why this was so bothered me, but that wasn't my reason for coming here.

"I heard Donaʼs kid would be staying with us!"

The voice came from an intensely loud man.

He was fairly muscular and his broad shoulders helped highlight his commanding presence, he had a thick mustache and light brown hair.

Dreward Wymarc, we weren't related in any close way other than him being the husband to my first cousin once removed; Lerna Wymarc.

"Good day sir, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance... I appreciate you letting me stay here." I had to show my charms so he'd like me, I bowed in the noble manner of greeting.

He didn't seem impressed, did he always carry this angry demeanor wherever he went? After a long stare at me all he said was "You're too short to be Donaʼs kid.. even my Hermione is taller than you." he pat my cheek before he left, his hand felt like sandpaper.

I could've sworn Gallus almost let a laugh escape his mouth after hearing the comment on my height but Hermoine had no qualms about laughing.

She placed her left arm on my head like it was a small table.

"You'll grow soon enough, that's if you're me.." even I couldn't fault her for that one, she almost had me at the start of the sentence.

And Gallus was on the verge of laughing again, this guy. I directed my gaze to him and immediately he noticed it he retracted his partly held laughter.

Forcibly clearing his throat, "Ahem... I'll go set your bags in your quarters." he was assisted by the head maid; Talia Guferntz, a voluptuous ginger haired elf.

"Mother! Nyx is here.."

Thereʼs something definitely wrong here, why did the woman have brown hair like her husband and yet their daughter's was pink?

The manor didn't house any dark mystery but nothing really made sense from the female only environment to the distinctive pink hair of Hermione.

"Please, have a seat Nyx dear.."

Much obliged, I took a seat located directly across from the lady Lerna Wymarc. If she was my first cousin once removed that'd make Hermione my second cousin. Good to know.

"I'm Lerna Keriath Wymarc, your mother's cousin. I was so glad when she said you'd be coming to stay with us.."

She seemed like a courteous and cheerful woman, with a face like that and a personality like hers, she could attract a number of men, and maybe even women.

Her approach wasn't bad one bit, Drewardʼs wasn't either. But comparatively speaking it was.

The maids poured us both some unfermented juice of squeezed grapes.

Our drinks were on the table unattended to, we spent the time discussing, it was mostly questions like how I was doing in school, the welfare of my parents and surprisingly enough if I'd gotten a girlfriend.

I hadn't one, but I did tell her a bit about my best friend Belitha.

We laughed in a similar manner and even had the habit of using two coasters instead of one. We found it more thorough.

On the flipside, Hermione went to get some rest, surely she wanted to sleep so she could wake up early tomorrow and we could begin our training.

I wasn't sure she had much to offer me, but if she helped me understand the basics better it'd prepare me for when I learnt more advanced spells with the teacher Polpe recommended I find.

Later that night, I had had my shower and slipped into much more comfortable sleeping wears.

I opened my mouth widely and took a long and rather deep breath accompanied by pandiculation, proof that I was exhausted for the day.

As I was preparing to retire for the evening, I thought it prudent to compose a letter to Belitha to inquire as to her well-being.

It would be remiss of me not to maintain contact with her during the upcoming weeks.

As I did not possess the Besimios family stamp with our crest, I was obliged to use the Wymarcs.

Belitha may not recognize the letter as being from me until she opened it. I was pleased to be able to stay in touch with her.

It was late, and the moon was already gracing the sky with its presence, providing a beautiful sight for all to behold.
