As morning dawned, Alistair could be seen snoring heavily. He rested on a white bed; its comfy leather was softer than feathers. His body wanted to stay there forever, rejecting the issues of life and accepting the allure of dreams.
However, his brain had other plans. The mental space molded those lovely dreams into nightmares. Images of a giant rat formed in his mind's eye, feasting on human meat and gnawing upon fresh bones. Crack, creak, crunch – its teeth chimed endlessly.
This surreal picture made Alistair's expression distort. The bed's folds now felt so suffocating and vile. He struggled to move but immediately stopped... something happened.
The rat glanced in his direction; its red eyes gleamed with calculated cruelty. Alistair dared not move. He wished it would just leave, be gone.
But it did not leave. Instead, a bloody body was dropped. New food needed to be acquired.
'No,' Alistair thought as that thing crawled towards him.
