Chereads / Eternal Protagonist / Chapter 2 - False Affection

Chapter 2 - False Affection

Hearing his words and soft tone of voice, Cail's heart, which was beginning to come alive, felt warm. He swallowed the blood in his mouth and made the bold act of hugging him, showing his attachment.

"Big brother ...."

Facing the suddenly sticky little figure, Rui put on a complicated expression as he returned his small hug tightly, then he turned to Eire, who of course he had known from the beginning. Bluish light sprung up in various corners and several blue butterflies flew around as if searching for something.

"Although it's an illusion and you shouldn't remember, but ...." Rui did not continue his muttering for fear that his little brother, who was secretly intelligent, would be able to deduce the whole situation.

Thus, he patted Cail's little head lightly and put him to sleep, then once again glanced at Eire with dissatisfaction. He entrusted the care of his little brother to Eire so that he could accompany him in order to he would not be hurt. However, now he had to change his plans.

"What's going on?" he asked Eire, naturally Rui knew the reason, but he wanted to hear from someone else's point of view so that he would no longer make the same mistake of being overconfident in his own point of view.

Eire did intend to report something and it just so happened that this place was perfect because it was not under 'that' surveillance. He spewed out information, "Cail started acting strange this morning, he did mention that he had nightmares, also he always wanted to meet you to ask you about his past that kept bothering him. You know the result now."

He was not being polite, not because he was not afraid of Rui, but he knew that Rui preferred a straightforward attitude. Rui stated that as his little brother's friend, Eire did not need to be polite to him.

"Yeah," Rui replied briefly while rubbing Cail's face gently and carefully as if he was afraid of hurting him.

"Until when can you maintain this illusion?" Eire was very curious about this.

What exactly happened to Cail and why he called it an illusion, he knew very clearly because he witnessed it and became part of one of the pieces that Rui played.

"Not for long," Rui replied without further explanation.

Eire became worried, although he believed that Rui was very powerful and could even penetrate reality and illusion, creating a world to take care of a terrifying existence was a huge challenge for Rui. Moreover, that existence had almost the same level of power as Rui, but had the opposite goal to him.

Realizing the concern of his little brother friend, Rui chuckled amusedly. "Are you underestimating me?" he snickered as he stood up and held the small figure in his arms lovingly.

This display of affection in front of him left Eire at a loss for words. The fact that Rui was very fond of Cail, no, the one he always referred to as 'Yoo Han' was indisputable, but seeing him in person had a different impact. Clearly the level of affection Rui showed exceeded what Eire had imagined.

"Well, then take good care of Yoo Han. I'll take him back to the dormitory."

"Okay."

Eire watched as the layers of illusion crumbled and piled up before reuniting forcefully behind each of Rui's footsteps. No one could determine what Rui's true identity was. He claimed to be a Lord Creator, yet he owned countless Abyss domains and Illusionary Worlds. Eire wondered if he could continue to exist to find out the truth?

This illusory world was not perfect, there were many mistakes and incomplete fragments. It was fine as long as little brother was safe, but the problem was that little brother, whether intentionally or not, was always putting himself in dangerous situations.

Rui was really angry. He had his own way of dealing with his anger at his dear little brother.

After arriving at Cail's dorm room, he lowered him onto Cail's cozy bed and pulled back the covers. While sitting on the edge of the bed, Rui poked Cail's cheek lightly as he grumbled, "Play nicely in this little park, there's no need to do such naughty things."

He thought about his reasons for refusing to meet Cail earlier, he realized that it was partly his fault. However, it could not be avoided. Why did he not want to meet Cail, when he loved him so much? Wasn't that unreasonable?

Certainly, it was because of ....

"Hah!"

He suddenly withdrew his hand and covered half of his face. His sapphire eyes trembled and his body stiffened as if he was holding something back.

"Hehehe." He laughed mockingly as the side of his face creased and the previous gentle personality vanihed.

"Weakened and this good opportunity is hard to miss," he said in a cold tone.

His sapphire eyes turned dark as if tainted by evil. In his reflection, Cail's tiny little figure looked fragile and easy to destroy.

He reached out his hand to Cail's neck firmly without hesitation. The small figure reacted as his breath came in gasps.

When Cail slowly came to his senses and opened his eyes, all he saw was Rui's frightened expression and his hands choking him. He called out in shock and fear, "Big Brother?!"

As if a button was pressed, the hand that was strangling his neck loosened and instantly left like a sting. The owner closed his eyes for a moment before looking at Cail with a gentle expression.

However, to Cail, that expression seemed fake. False affection. He sat back and moved away from Rui.

The latter must have noticed Cail's reaction, but he had nothing to say. There was no way he was telling his little brother the truth. Well, it was fine if his little brother hated him now. It was good that he wouldn't be able to get close to him to hurt him.

Still, it hurt him so much that it seemed to melt all his affection into ahes and make him look fake. Rui chuckled in self-deprecation.

"Yoo Han," he called before continuing as he touched Cail's forehead, "Go back to sleep."

Cail was hypnotized and fell into a deep sleep, forgetting what had just happened, along with his memories of Rui. The latter chose this step to protect him. Even if his little brother forgot him, it was better than losing him.

"I'm sorry and goodbye until you remember me again."

Rui continued to stare at his little brother's cute face for a long time until he realized that it was time to leave. The illusory world needed to be refined. After dragging away all the people who were about to make his little brother a sacrifice, he had to fight them secretly. Restoring his divine status and defeating the greatest enemy, the other side of himself.

Rui walked out, instantly opening a portal to somewhere.

"As a writer, the tragedy story is quite fun, isn't it?" he muttered in a low tone.

"But, alas, what if the characters you write oppose the prescribed tragedy? What would you do?" It was as if Rui was asking directly to someone out there who was writing his story.
