It took me a second to process what she said.
I was not expecting a decision right away or even one in my favor. "Really?!" I was caught so off guard I slipped my real emotions into my face. I think they caught that slip as both broke into a smile. "Yes really. I won't lie this is new territory for us, especially since we do not know how the public will react. However we both know that so long we stay in constant communication and you both keep us in the loop with anything, even if it seems minuscule, we can make it successful."
"I appreciate this a lot. I will inform my parents right away. If it is not too prompt I believe my parents would like to meet over dinner to fully discuss everything. I will pass along their schedule so we can plan ahead."
Deans father who had taken a backseat pulled forward to take the lead regarding this. "You can send me the information and I can coordinate from there. I suppose we will be seeing more of each other in these coming days."
We ended the call shortly after as it was getting late and once I shut down my computer my hands finally shook from all the adrenaline running in my veins. I quickly ran to my parents room to discuss with them what we had settled on.
My mother did not look all that surprised. "Estelle has always made comments about how perfect you were and how much she liked and enjoyed your presence. I would have been more shocked if they did not agree to be honest."
My dad looked mildly surprised but the slight glint in his eye told me he also had a bet that they would say yes. "Well sounds like the next couple of days will be busy. The easy part will be releasing the statement from our camps plus meeting them to hash over details. The hard part will be informing your grandparents. We will want to do that before we release an official statement as at least for my Dad their might be some convincing needed."
I nearly forgot about that.
Between the two sets of grandparents easily my dads side of the family was going to be harder to convince. My moms side of the family had great impressions of Dean from before so they would probably be fine with the news.
The last we spoke was a letter a few days after they left for home after my whole Dante thing. They have been well and apparently found new friends to interact with after the limited contact with the Medici family.
I knew that even though Dean had been a huge help in particular my grandfather was not pleased we even had contact. "Let me handle my parents kiddo, I do not want you to have to create conflict with them. I have been their son for many years and I was not a perfect son growing up. I have some ideas on getting them more willing to accept this."
"I too will handle my own parents honey, just focus on work and maintaining the relationships with our companies." My mother piped up after my father. Having set the plan the next following days were putting those plans in action.
After I had told Dean the good news he and I planned a dinner at his house for our parents. On his end unlike my parents his enlisted him to break the news to his grandparents. "I already told my grandma on my moms side, she is excited and plans to fly down soon to meet you. She is an amazing woman and I think you would get along with her quite well."
"What about your paternal family?" From what he had shared I don't think they were going to be receptive to his news considering how they treated him. Even with the contract in place he managed to trick them into.
"I have not told them yet but its more so because they are not available. My late aunts husband I guess had made some movements and he is not a good man so they watch his actions carefully. So the family right now is on high alert working on that and is not at the liberty to talk with me right now."
He had shared with me about what had happened to his late aunt Kit so I understood that this was a big deal. I assumed that they would have had him taken care of since he took Kits life but apparently he went into hiding and getting him to come out of the rat hole was difficult.
"Would the timing then not be good right now?" If I was in their position, that would be too many blows to me and I would be less inclined to be receptive to the news. I might be harsh to simply make the things I have to deal with less.
"Eh. I left a voicemail with an incentive so I might have to head back to Spain depending on when they answer. But we will release the news in a few weeks. I have to set some precautionary measures up to help protect the free trade market. I expect we will face a dip as soon as the news gets traction.
I was a twinge bit disappointed as that meant extending the circus parade the media was causing but it could not be helped. "I see hopefully it works out before we release the statement."
I returned to work but just ignored any press. Dean and I agreed to limit any in person meetings at least until the the news became official. None of my employees asked me anything which was under the direction of my head secretary who was the only one informed.
Overall the couple of weeks were equally hectic as they were normal. I spent my energy working on reading up on the law and studying potential opponents as well as getting the jewlery I worked on in Paris further along.
The next time Dean and I spoke he confirmed that he would be heading to Spain. I got worried about whether he would be able to head back after but he assured me it would be fine.
