Chapter 18 - Solo

Xylon was not going to ignore what Deric said to him, he was just messing with him and at that moment he just wanted kill him so badly .

he headed towards him with the intention to fight with him , but John stood there the moment he realized the tension between them until they both left the place in diffrent directions.

He had no idea where he was supposed to go or what he was supposed to do. All he had was an invitation to a place on the outskirts of Havag the next morning, and even that was shrouded in mystery.

Lost in thought, Xylon was suddenly jolted back to reality as someone grabbed his arm. He spun around, ready to defend himself, only to find himself face to face with his older sister, Eva.

"Why, Xylon? Why did you end up becoming a Soul Keeper? I told you that you had to make sure your healing powers were strong enough!" Eva's voice was laced with anger, and Xylon could tell that she was more than a little upset.

As he looked at his sister, Xylon realized that she hadn't changed much over the years. She was still the same fierce, protective older sister that he remembered, though there was a maturity to her now that he couldn't quite put his finger on.

She was dressed in a long black dress that reached her knees, and Xylon couldn't help but feel a twinge of frustration at how put-together and confident she looked.

Xylon towered over Eva, his height and muscular build making him appear imposing. His blue eyes were cool and distant, while Eva's were ablaze with fiery intensity. Despite her small stature, Eva exuded a fierce strength that belied her size. As they stood there, facing each other, the tension between them was palpable.

"Huh, it's you," he said, his tone more than a little bit annoyed. He couldn't understand why Eva was so upset with him, or what she was even talking about.

"You're the next Soul Keeper! They... they are truly too shameless to do this," Eva replied, her voice tinged with bitterness.

Xylon had no idea what she was talking about, but he could tell that something was deeply wrong.

The two siblings stood there in silence for a few moments, each lost in their own thoughts.

He had no idea what he was getting himself into, but he knew that it was going to be a long and difficult road ahead. As he looked at Eva, he couldn't help but wonder how she was living her life now .

Xylon's tone was icy as he asked, "What are you doing here, Eva?"

Her eyes widened slightly, and she took a step back, as if his coldness had physically pushed her away.

"You told me that day that you never wanted to see me again," she said softly, her voice trembling with emotion. "I know that's what you want, but how do you expect me to stay away from you when I see that you've made this huge mistake?"

Xylon's eyes narrowed at the word "mistake." He had always known that his sister disapproved of his lack of magical prowess, and now that he had been appointed as a Soul Keeper, it seemed like she was taking the opportunity to rub his face in it.

"I didn't make a mistake," he retorted. "I was appointed to this role, whether I like it or not."

Eva shook her head, her long black hair falling over her shoulders. "You could have did what I asked you "

Xylon looked away, unable to meet his sister's gaze. It had been years since they last spoke, and the memory of their last conversation still stung. Eva had urged him to focus on his healing abilities, to become a Healer, but Xylon had refused.

He wanted more, to explore the depths of his magical powers and unlock new potentials.

Their argument had been fierce, and Xylon had said some things that hurt her . He had told Eva that he never wanted to see her again, that he didn't need her or anyone else's help to achieve his goals.

Now, faced with her unexpected presence, Xylon didn't know how to react.

Eva's eyes glinted with frustration as she glared at Xylon. "You're so stubborn! It's like talking to a rock," she hissed through gritted teeth. "I hate that about you."

Xylon remained silent, his expression guarded.

"Now, there's no going back," Eva continued, her tone laced with bitterness. "You're stuck with this job, and I can't even save you from it."

"Save me?" Xylon repeated, confusion etched on his face.

Xylon's frustration boiled over as he pushed Eva's hand away, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "So, it's either accept the job or be killed, huh?"

Eva's face softened as she nodded slowly. "Yes, Xylon, it's truly messed up. They don't give you a choice, and now you're stuck with this burden for the rest of your life."

Eva shook her head, her eyes filled with pity. "This job only opens every fifteen years, Xylon. Do you know why? It's because it's the worst job anyone could get. The last soul keeper had died …it's 15 years , Xylon….ah …I feel like I am about to go crazy"

Xylon's heart sank as Eva's words hit him like a ton of bricks. "Fifteen years?" he repeated in disbelief. "I will only live for fifteen years?"

Eva nodded sadly, her eyes filled with sorrow. "Yes, Xylon. That's how long the last soul keeper lived before he died. And that's why they are going to open your position again in fifteen years."

Xylon couldn't believe it. He had never heard of a job that had such a short lifespan. What was the point of dedicating his life to something that would only last for a mere fifteen years?

Xylon's mind raced as he processed what Eva had just told him. Fifteen years. That was all he had. In his past life as a demon, he had lived for over 500 years and was still considered young. His ambition was limitless, and he had countless plans and goals that he had not yet achieved.

But now, with this new knowledge, he realized that time was not on his side. It was too short to even contemplate getting his revenge on Balthyrov, the Lord of Demons who had condemned him to this life as a human soul keeper.

Xylon looked at Eva, his mind made up. "I will make the most of these fifteen years," he said firmly. "I will find a way to break free from this job and achieve my goals. I will not be held down by fate or destiny."
