Hakkel left the ruined remains of Kairon lie, both because he didn't feel like trying to grab it and because he wanted to spare the other humans the sight of their friend's state. Kairon had also ended up quite a distance away from both the town and the Hungry Hogs, thanks to Hakkel sending him flying. So, he wasn't at risk of being caught up in any of the other battles or the Hungry Hogs Corps' advancement into Vanitapolis.
Rego and the others had winced in sympathy as Hakkel's strike hit Kairon. But they regained calm expressions once Kairon died and Hakkel returned to his position in front of the Hungry Hogs.
They all already knew what they had gotten themselves into, so Hakkel's brutal strike wasn't that unexpected. But it cemented the reality of the situation and the fact that even if Hakkel seemed polite, he wouldn't hold back. Tineya was also already dead, but her death had been comparatively clean, swift, and painless.
