Although it would be difficult to get to know everyone on a personal level in a town, even if it was as small as Vanitapolis, it wasn't impossible since almost no one disappeared forever. There were a few exceptions, but they were quickly forgotten.
Vanitapolis was small, to begin with, and since no one died or left, there was plenty of time to get to know one another. The only problem was the overwhelming apathy permeating the town. No one could be bothered to get to know other people, and if they did, they quickly forgot about it since it wasn't interesting.
However, the four clerks that Micah had put in charge of gathering names and information had still done an outstanding job, as they had collected a lot of noteworthy intel about most of the residents.
