After Ystris' sudden burst of power that seemed to have come from out of nowhere and Makkal's gruesome death, everyone watched in silence for several moments without reaction.
All the previous fights had been relatively tame. Even Micah's and Gunnel's fight had mostly been dodging and jabbing like a couple of mismatched kids play-fighting.
But Ystris had suddenly escalated the battle and turned Makkal into a pile of shredded flesh, blood, and bone. And unlike the humans' deaths, Makkal's passing was permanent. It was the first one of this exchange of objections and acceptations and sequence of duels.
The sudden burst of power made Gunnel frown and regret adding that rule that allowed Ystris to use his ability while Makkal didn't.
However, Gunnel and everyone else were soon snapped out of their daze as Ystris' bloody whip faded away and Ystris' wrinkled and skeletal body crumbled to the ground.
