Chereads / The Grimoire: Battle Of Sorcerers / Chapter 50 - The Grand Grimoire

Chapter 50 - The Grand Grimoire

Greenland was a city surrounded by hills and valleys. On the south eastern part of the city, the forest surrounding the city gained a more hilly terrain. Large rocks and boulders occurred naturally and if one were to move further north, one would come upon a series of small mountains that lined the edge of the forest.

The natural elevations stood out in the background of Greenland like jagged uneven constructs.

The leaders of the Greenland had embarked on a construction project that saw several roads built through and around the mountains. The aim then had been to encourage tourist trips to the admittedly grand view from the top of the mountains, as well as providing an easy route from Greenland to the neighboring cities on the other side of the peaks.

Greenland was a city overthrown by politics and corruption. Even though the citizens of Greenland suffered less than any other cities around, there was no denying that the leaders and wealthy masses stomped upon the bones of the lesser masses.

Most sorcerers who found themselves in Greenland took towards the side of politics, while the few lived out their lives in silence amongst the poor masses. Especially those who weren't able to partake in any sort of war amongst their factions.

Jeffrey's accomplishments had become the topic amongst the sorcerers, and the weak had gone into hiding before any major war could break out.

This was completely different for Hunter and Logan. While the former worked his way through the ranks of politics in secrecy,. the latter engaged in assassination activities. Killing off all those who might pose a threat towards the goal they sought.

A whole month had passed since they both made their appearances in the city, and neither had honoured Jeffery's invitation. Hunter was hellbent on trying out new goals, and attempting to live a normal life. While Logan merely enjoyed killing.

"Don't you think it's time we paid Jeffery a visit. I can tell he's been watching us since we entered Greenland" Logan suggested. Unlike Hunter he still felt a bit of dedication towards their clan leader. With the news and rumors going around in their faction, it was only natural that he feels a little bit afraid of Jeffery Bruce.

"I was thinking the same thing too. We've made a reputation for ourselves in the underground business of the city. There's no doubt he hasn't heard of us yet" Hunter concurred. "It wouldn't be long before he comes looking for us anyways. He's that kind of man"

"Is it possible that you're afraid of Jeffrey Bruce?" Logan was especially gifted in taunting his partner. They might be doing business together for now, but these two men weren't friends.

"Don't try to rope me in with your kind. I can smell the fear oozing off of you from here."

Logan chuckled dryly at Hunter's words before taking a sip out of his tea cup. "You do know he's been here all along" He revealed.

Having realized that his presence has been detected, Jeffery materialised on the sofa opposite the duo. It was unusual for him to do the spying work. But when it came to this too, he didn't trust anybody other than himself to handle the job.

"Long time no see Hunter, I see you've been doing fine" Jeffery commented at the figure closest to him. He leaned forward towards the assassin adjacent his position and flashed him a wry smile.

It wasn't his intention to make his appearance this soon. But thanks to Logan's unrivaled intuitions and sensory skills, he was forced to show himself.

"So you've finally come, I was beginning to get tired of waiting" Hunter returned. He hadn't sensed Jeffery, in fact he couldn't sense him. Right now he was completely human, and even his ability to sense aura and presence were completely turned off.

"Jeffrey Bruce, it's been long since we last saw" Logan made his presence known. The other two seemed to have lost interest in his existence so suddenly. He loved being in the shadows, and hated being noticed. But in this situation he found it very disrespectful to be ignored.

A cold silence followed after Logan's words. Then, a sly smile appeared on Jeffery's lips. "It's ironical how an attention seeker like yourself manages to be the most powerful assassin. I fear you more than I do any other person"

"We all know you're only trying to be nice. Jeffery Bruce fears nobody. I do not deserve such praise from you"

"Why have you called us here? Is it possible that Jeffery Bruce has finally stooped to the level of asking for help?" Hunter was quick to kill the mood and change the subject. He felt unusually uncomfortable with Jeffery's presence in his living room. He could sense the absurd power emanating from him. And for once in his life he has admitted that he feared Jeffrey.

"A situation has come up. Consider this a task from your leader" Jeffrey clarified. He wasn't asking for help, he just wanted to test out the full capabilities of a certain somebody.

"This situation, I'm guessing it was eventually discovered?" Logan questioned.

"Yes. Angels now walk amongst men" Jeffery announced. The shock on their faces was to be expected. He too reacted the exact same way. Nobody could remain unfazed after hearing such information.

"So you want us to deal with this angel?" Vincent said in an utterly emotionless tone. "A being who we know nothing about. You must really underestimate us. Do you think we're mere puppets at your disposal. You might be clan leader, but that doesn't mean you get to send us out to suicide missions"

Hunter had done his research on other extraterrestrial beings. He knew of their existence quite well, and he has even conducted experiments on the feathers of a supposed angel. They were creatures beyond human control. He knew too well than to attempt entering a fight with one as an enemy.

"It seems you know quite a lot about them, don't you Hunter?"

"It doesn't matter. I won't partake in any matters concerning beings who aren't of this realm" Hunter replied.

Logan sat confused by the side. He wasn't a book worm like the others beside him. They were both knowledgeable in every aspect of life, while he only focused on battles and money. Angels, demons, he knew nothing about them. He has never encountered one in battle, and he didn't want to. It would be exceptionally difficult to handle them with weapons only.

"You two seem to know quite a lot about these Angels. Could anyone care to enlighten me?" Logan requested. Perhaps it was time for him to learn, even if it was just a little.

"They're dangerous, that all you need to know. I'm guessing our clan leader battled one and lost. There's no need for him to request for our intervention if he could handle it on his own"

Jeffery's cold eyes trailed towards Hunter, and he subconsciously flared his aura to remind him who was in charge here. Hunter was being way too smart for his own good. He might be a valuable asset to the blood sorcerers, but that doesn't mean he was above punishment. Jeffrey despised losing, but he hated being reminded of his loses even more. He was only asking for their assistance because he was too occupied with the Grimoire.

He was confident in the duo's abilities. Hunter once rivaled him in strength, and Logan's movements and techniques in battle was almost unpredictable. The two of them might not be as strong as the angel just yet. But he was certain they could make great contributions towards quenching his curiosity.

"You're exceptionally smart Hunter, however you're mistaken. I did not call you here to battle with an Angel. I called the both of you here to aid me in a quest" Jeffery corrected.

"And what could this quest be?" Hunter inquired, now engulfed with curiosity.

"I'm looking for a Grimoire, the grand Grimoire"

"The Grand Grimoire?! Isn't it currently in the possession of Manuel, the strongest Elder?" Hunter asked for clarification.

"Yes! Unfortunately the maledictio Caelum et Infernium doesn't posses an infinite amount of knowledge. There are no records of the two realms written within its pages" Jeffery confirmed.

"There's a reason why the infernal judgement is in possession of that particular book. You might be strong, but even you cannot stand against the power of Satan himself" Hunter reminded.

"Which is exactly why we need to get our hands on the book! With it we can unravel the secrets of hell, we can finally be able to stand against the infernal judgement without cowering in fear. Isn't that what we all want?"

Jeffery was being exceptionally pushy with his request, and his desperation was clear. First it was angels, and now he wants to unravel the secrets of hell. Something was definitely up,

"What exactly are you up to Jeffery Bruce?"
