Sophia had to admit, of all the surprises, the one she hadn't anticipated was Jacob. That cringey guy, who usually lurked on the periphery, had unexpectedly taken her side in the dispute with Elio. It was an odd development, one she hadn't quite figured out yet. She hadn't responded to him, unsure of his motives, but she knew she wouldn't hesitate to use him when the time came. It was just a matter of figuring out when and how he could be most useful.
Sophia put the pen down and completely threw herself back into her chair, feeling the weight of her thoughts pressing down on her. She knew she should be able to go home, but the idea of returning to her empty apartment felt uninviting.
