Chapter 1 - Awakening

In the middle of a dark green forest, several kilometers away from any signs of civilization, one could find a suspicious-looking area completely devoid of trees and tall grass that one could find by looking around in other directions. The place was quite suspicious since despite not being big, it was perfectly round, and all the creatures in the forest avoided that place…

In that environment, one could also find a nice cottage. It looked a bit old, but it wasn't damaged or anything by the passage of time, but that wasn't important, what was important was the fact that in front of the entrance of the cottage, one could find a youth unconscious and on the ground.

Several dangerous creatures were looking at that youth, but they didn't dare approach. In fact, when he began to move a bit, all the creatures around began to run away. The youth had light brown hair, tanned skin, and emerald green eyes that looked pretty cloudy and confused when he opened them. The youth was quite well built, considering that he didn't look older than seventeen or eighteen. Maybe that was why he managed to get up so fast despite the head-splitting headache he was feeling.

"Hmm?" The youth looked around in confusion since he didn't recognize the area, but then he looked at the cottage and somehow felt quite familiar with it. "This is… my home? Urgh?"

The youth felt like a small electric current had passed through his head when he recognized the cottage. He could tell that it was his home, but he couldn't recall anything else. Not even a single time he slept in it. His mind was completely foggy.

At first, the youth stared blankly at everything. Still, then some waves of headache made him recall what seemed to be some flashes of his memories… he recalled his vision getting blurry while he was on the ground and trying to grab something ahead of him. At first, he thought that he was trying to grab some shadows. Still, the shadows eventually thinned out until they became silhouettes of people.

The youth didn't see those people completely, only a man and a woman trying to pull a ten years old girl from him. She had short red hair and emerald eyes as well and was wearing a blue and white dress. She didn't seem older than ten years old.

"Sigma!" The girl screamed, and then Sigma returned to reality.

"I am… Sigma, and she is… Saria," Sigma said and then took a deep breath to get rid of the headache.

The memories were returning to him. Sigma recalled that they were celebrating his tenth birthday when something happened, and they were separated. No, someone separated them…

"Was she my sister or something? We both have names that start with S…" Sigma thought while looking around and realizing that the environment was truly different from his memories. "I got unconscious for some reason, but I could see some mountains behind Saria."

Sigma assumed that he had been hit by something, and blood clouded his vision, which would explain the headache. Still, he couldn't see any of it in his body. He was wearing a white shirt, brown pants, and some cheap and old-looking boots, but with no signs of blood.

A lot of things weren't making any sense, but he decided to wait and see if his memories returned with more clarity.

Some memories returned, but that only made Sigma even more confused. He could only recall the day of his tenth birthday, but he also could tell that he wasn't an ordinary kid and had some sort of secret. It was a weird feeling, but he could imagine considering his thoughts during the attack, that he wasn't a kid… he could tell that some strong people attacked and almost killed him, but he never feared them. He also could tell that he knew why the enemies captured Saria, but he couldn't recall now.

"I need to give time for my head to remember things slowly… but I need to check this area," Sigma thought and then got up only to realize that his body was a bit different from his memories. "I got taller while I was unconscious?"

Things weren't adding up, and just waiting for the memories to return wasn't helping enough. So, Sigma went to check the interior of the cottage but only found a dusty place like it had been abandoned for years.

Sigma didn't find clothes, tools, or weapons, only a kitchen knife, some old strings, and wood. The place had been truly cleaned up… and had been left alone for years. It wasn't just an illusion, and he couldn't have been unconscious for all that time.

Sigma left the house and then went to check the forest around. It didn't take long for him to notice that the place truly looked suspicious. The perfect round terrain of the cottage, the fact that some creatures were around and didn't approach it.

When Sigma stepped into the forest, some crazy three-tailed wolves with long tongues and teeth charged at him like mad dogs. He stepped back, and they left him alone, which confirmed that the monsters were avoiding the terrain for one reason or the other.

"This is convenient for me since those things look pretty strong," Sigma scratched the back of his head. "However, I am getting hungry, and it looks like those things are everything that I can eat around the forest."

Sigma looked pretty calm despite the situation. Thanks to that, he could think clearly and notice some things. One of the things he noticed was the fact that there was something weird in the corner of his vision.
