After another long lecture done by Vaelel, I was finally able to rest my eyes. As I leaned my head back against the soft pillow, it was completely dark as I closed my eyes. And soon, I fell asleep…
My mind wandered and drifted into the unending memories I held. Technology was a scary thing. Inheriting someone else's memories was like taking their individuality and making it my own.
My consciousness shifted through the infinite panels of stories even though the world was unknown. Memories, peaceful paradises, vibrant colors overflowed my brain with a gentle soothing atmosphere.
Though soon, the happy memories, smiles, and laughter seemed to have come to a crashing halt. That was when a nightmare began, or… Was it a trauma of the past? I stood within a puddle to my ankles, the brown water rippled from the rain that poured down upon me.
My eyes couldn't believe what was happening. I wore an attire I've only seen in old war logs that were made several hundred thousand or even millions of years ago.
My right hand wrapped around a metallic object that seemed to have been a gun from the older eras of the world. It was small, it was no bigger than someone's head. But yet, it was heavy. But my main focus wasn't that, it was…
The person in front of my feet that laid still, and his head was full of massive holes that oozed blood and brain matter. I stood frozen next to the body, my eyes staring down upon the gruesome sight. The stench of death filled my nostrils, it was a smell of rusted metal. I felt a wave of nausea rise up in my gut, threatening to spill over.
The rain fell in the streets, each drop sounding like a thousand hammers pounding against the pavement. My heart raced as I tried to process what had just happened, the adrenaline pumping through my veins as if I was running a marathon. Was this person dead? Reality felt like a cruel trick as I took a step back, the splash of the puddle beneath my feet as I forced myself to take a step backward.
"'What the Hell?"
My hands shook as I slowly raised them, the rain washing away the red streaks that stained my skin. The weapon in my hand glistened, streaked with a mixture of blood and rainwater. I stared at it in horror.
『This won't be the last time you see this sight…』
The Alarm went off in my ears, and the loud beeping shook me awake, thank the lords I was able to wake up from that sight. I stared upwards towards the blank ceiling. For once, I was glad to look up at the blankness. I raised my right arm to my face, and a holographic clock popped up. It was 3 am. I groaned under my breath as I pulled myself from my bed. Vaelel was already gone, she usually sleeps in the same room but I've rarely seen her sleep or wake up. She was a busybody.
I pulled on my work boots and then walked towards the desk where Cel and my pair of "Gloves" I was assigned. I grabbed my gloves and begrudgingly pulled them on, muttering a curse or two under my breath. When the gloves were pulled on, they jacked into the space suit I wore beneath my uniform. This space suit was like a second layer of skin, protecting us from the vacuum of space and many other dangers we may face in the depths of the galaxy. Though, depending on the person. Under this space suit, people who charge into the frontlines of battles would have countless wounds of the past.
I have extremely smooth skin, and I've never experienced combat firsthand. I wish to remain that way, but that dream or memory made me second-guess. The gloves fully bonded to my suit, and a light blue holographic sigil formed on the back of my hand. The once-white gloves inverted and turned pitch black, with the fingertips now white. In my opinion, it was pretty fashionable with my attire. I pressed Cel against the holographic sigil as the AI rooted itself into the gloves.
These gloves were a weapon called Astrea. This weapon depends on the person's mind, its effects vary depending on the user. Their desire and what they want. For me, nothing is known. I haven't developed a desire. But at the bare minimum. Astrea could easily defy time and reality since those concepts lost meaning a long time ago. Well if you were able to get access to Astrea in the first place.
Astrea though extremely powerful, one pair could cost the same amount as several colonies as big as the one I live in. Combined. Due to how expensive these are, the weapon completely binds to my consciousness as a safeguard even if they are stolen so that they are impossible to be worn by someone else. Currently, within my family. My Father, Grandfather, and I have pairs of these weapons.
I exhaled from my nose, I walked forwards grabbing the handle of the sliding door. Pulling it open, the bland white hallway I'm used to seeing spread across my eyes. I closed the door behind me as it locked shut. I raised my right arm and then transported myself to another location outside of the colony.
Even though I was considered royalty within this colony. I still had to serve around 30 or more years of military service until I could return to my family. Luckily I was stationed at a warship fleet that was close to my colony so I didn't need to transport myself that far.
I was transported into the very busy halls filled with people holding tablets and weapons, some transporting and being transported. With the gentle hum of the warship, I got stares from the crew members as they still haven't seemed to have grown used to my presence.
I forced myself to ignore their stares, as I pulled open the door to the bridge. The entire room stared and looked toward me, and Vaelel stood in the middle of the room. Staring out towards the darkness of space. She was focused on her Captain Duties. She didn't have time to deal with my lateness or complaints.
I walked down the bridge and then walked toward the corner where I was stationed. I was stationed to watch the radar with five other people, which made my job especially easy.
The chair creaked as I sat on top of it, I pressed my hand against the keyboard of the computer that had a massive beeping image mapping out the rest of the defensive fleet of the colony. I pressed a few buttons to focus on the fleet, even though I'd seen this many many times. I find it extremely interesting seeing our fleet follow and defend something that is several hundred thousand times larger than itself. I exhaled from my mouth, as I pressed my finger against the holographic image of the ship.
