He was grateful to Willow for her not forgetting to give him writing utensils alongside the notebooks. The pencils of this world might not be comparable to the ones back on earth, and there were no pencil sharpeners, forcing Edol to use a knife to trim them, but at least the pencils were still usable.
There were also quills for writing using ink, but Edol opted against using them. At least with the pencils, it was a slight bit easier to correct any mistakes he made while writing, even if there were no erasers.
