Mercury leaned back in his rocking chair, observing the wildlife. His wife, Emerald, could be heard in the kitchen, baking something. He smiled, lacing his fingers behind the back of his head. Life was good.
On Peranidon, everyone was immortal. Mercury was over 300 years old. Some things had gotten tedious, but with the right partner, it wasn't such a chore. Emerald was 302, but both Mercury and Emerald looked as if they were in their mid-20's. That's the age at which people stopped aging.
The only way people could die was by suicide, or by being killed by the Revoker. Death wasn't entirely uncommon - people would become tired, exhausted of the monotony of life. But, the Revoker would usually only kill extremely dangerous criminals.
