"Oh, my goodness, it's a match!" he exclaimed over and over again. How could that be possible? Who owns the car? Does that mean that the killer is here now? Different thoughts course through his mind at that moment.
He looked in the direction of the gate, making sure that no one was leaving so as not to risk losing the culprit.
He took out his phone and dialed Fred's number. It rang thrice before he answered;
"Come out to the gate now!" The detective said as soon as the call connected.
Fred muttered "Yes sir!" before he disconnected the call.
The detective paced around pensively as he waited for Fred to arrive.
Yes, he was supposed to be happy that he finally got a lead or if possible, he had caught up with the killer. But here he was bothered and confused as to why it all happened.
"Sir!" Fred said as soon as he arrived.
"Yes, Fred. Look at this." The detective handed the paper over to Fred.
"Sir, this is the plate number of the car that abducted Bianca." Fred pointed out.
"Good, then look at this," He added and walked over to the car and pointed to the plate number; "This is the same car." He implored.
Fred's eyes widened and he turned to the house in shock. Not that Fred was shocked to hear that the killer was here in Mr. Kenneth's apartment, but he was shocked to hear that the car belonged to the abductor because he could recall seeing this car parked in one of the houses of Bianca's friends.
"You go in there and bring everybody outside. We need to figure out who has this car."
"Yes sir!" Fred nodded and walked away.
The house was filled with people, and like I said earlier even the Governor of the state was present.
So, as soon as Fred announced that their attention was needed outside, the Bodyguards surrounded the governor and led him outside. Slowly the others followed and soon they were all outside.
"What do you think is going on?" Dave asked.
"We just have to find out ourselves, don't we?" Tola muttered and rose from his seat and joined the people trooping out.
"Sorry for the inconvenience, but I need to know who the owner of this car is!" The detective said loudly.
People began muttering loudly, and some complained of being dragged outside for no just reason.
"It's mine!" Tola yelled from the crowd.
The detective signaled to Fred and he dashed over to Tola and cuffed him up.
An uproar rose among the people who surrounded them. They didn't understand what was going on.
"What the f*ck do you think you are doing? I didn't park wrongly!" Tola said as he struggled with Fred.
"What did our friend do? You can't just arrest him. he did nothing wrong; he has human rights yunno." Chioma cuts in.
"He lost his rights when he decided to murder Bianca Daniel." The detective stated loudly to the hearing of everyone gathered.
Chioma retraced her steps in shock. Her palm came up and covered her lips.
"What!" Mr. Daniel screamed from inside the crowd.
"His car's plate number matches the one caught on camera; the same car was used to abduct Bianca on her way back from the party," Fred added.
Mr. Daniel tore his way through the crowd, tears welling up in his eyes. his palm folded into a fist. His face reddened and his heart filled with murderous thoughts.
He sent a heavy blow to Tola's face, causing him to stagger backward and fall. Fred wasn't fast enough to block the punch but he was quick enough to stop him from landing another blow.
Fred dragged Tola up to his feet. Tola's nose bleed profusely as Fred dragged him away from the crowd.
"I didn't kill her, please don't arrest me." Tola finally pleaded; his lips covered in blood.
"Yeah, right." Fred scoffed and pushed Tola into the car.
"I can't believe this!" Chioma gasped.
"Me too, what did she ever do to him?" Dave said through his teeth. His fist clenched tightly. His blood boiled in rage. If Tola had not been pulled away, he would have pounced on him and beaten him to death.
Kenneth couldn't believe his ears. He immediately pulled Mr. Daniel away from the crowd to a private corner.
"Are you just gonna let that boy get away with this murder? Dan, have you grown cold with family life?" Kenneth asked, shaking Mr. Daniel by the shoulder, violently.
"I'm gonna make sure that he dies a slow and painful death, just the way my daughter suffered in his hands!" Mr. Daniel said in a low, rage-filled tone.
"Good. He has to pay for what he did." Kenneth added before walking away.
The detective got into the car with Fred seated 9b9eside him in front.
"You are still young, boy. What made you do it?" The detective asked as they drove off.
"I didn't do it. Please, you have to believe me!" Tola replied, his voice weakened by tears. His jaw hurts, and he had just broken his nose.
The image of that night flashed through his head. How he walked slowly behind Bianca, how he abducted her that night. he sighed and muttered again, but softly;
"I didn't kill her."
