Chapter 287 - Slowing Down

When September came, Enigma Company started promoting its new TV series. The annual TV series launch season made them extremely busy.

In the end, the internal conversation at Enigma Company did not yield any results.

Regarding investing in 3D movies, it can be said that Clark and Michael have no objections.

Clark has always had a great pursuit of better film shooting, and Michael is mainly managing TV series now. However, he has been in Hollywood for a long time and knows what will happen if he does not catch up early when a new technology is born — big trouble.

Bob and Jack didn't have much opinion on this. It wasn't a big deal to them.

The only trouble was that Alexander was still a little conservative and felt that it was too wasteful.

Investing about 100 million in a movie in today's Hollywood can guarantee a good income. This kind of thing is the best model, in Alexander's opinion.

Since there is already an excellent ready-made model, it is best to develop under this model. He is still a little reluctant to make new attempts.

Since he has always thought this way, Levi will not rush him. Alexander doesn't agree with such a large-scale investment yet, so he'll put it aside for now.

There's no rush to make this movie now, anyway. He can definitely wait a little longer.

Levi knows Alexander very well. It won't take long. Once the year ends and he sees the box office figures of The Lord of the Rings, Alexander will probably be unable to sit still.

The increasingly higher box office figures are a great stimulus to people. At that time, he will also agree to try something new.

And Levi thinks so, too. This attempt may very well be successful.

The story of Avatar is actually, to put it bluntly, a planetary version of Dances with Wolves. Putting aside the visuals, the content can be described as pale and feeble.

However, James Cameron is powerful. It is he who relied on film technology to achieve box office results that other films could not reach, making all films look up to him.

It would be fine if Levi didn't know this. Knowing this, he would naturally find a way to develop technology and seize the first place.

Just these things. Maybe you need to wait for a while. However, he is not in a hurry anyway. He will talk about the future matters later.

After July has passed, the summer schedule is basically almost over.

This year's movie box office, with four blockbusters in the front and not many dark horses emerging in the subsequent movies, can be considered good.

This summer has passed, and what people are now waiting for is The Lord of the Rings 3, which is scheduled for Christmas.

At this time, Levi also got some rest. Anyway, he didn't have anything important to do, so he felt much more relaxed all of a sudden.

He also has some other activities to participate in.

For example, this year, he participated in the Emmy Awards.

At the Emmy Awards ceremony, the works of Enigma Company are indispensable every year.

Now, CSI can be regarded as a longevity drama, and although there are many other works of the same type, it is still supporting it firmly from the front.

Among other TV works, 24, which only started in 2001, has quickly occupied the market and has become a hit drama. The response has been great, too.

On the other hand, the TV series Heroes has seen some decline in ratings. However, it has not reached the point where it needs to be cut in half and is still holding on.

In fact, now the producer is no longer Levi for these TV series. They are all managed by Michael or Bob. A company with two hit dramas and other popular TV dramas can participate in the Emmy Awards almost every year.

Levi came here also for his new TV series - he was filming a new TV series. In the initial stage, he also needed some other stars to make guest appearances to increase its popularity, so he also chose to come here.

After arriving at the venue, the question he heard most was actually just one question: "Are you preparing any new movies recently? Do you have any plans?"

"Why does everyone think I have a new movie to shoot?"

Levi also complained about this, and Leslie, who was with him, hearing this complaint, immediately laughed, "Who told you to always make movies one after another? The last movie has been released, and if there are no new movies, no matter how you see it, it will be unscientific."

Levi rolled his eyes at Leslie's answer. This answer was really straightforward, but it couldn't be said to be wrong.

"Seriously, do you have any movies in preparation right now?" Leslie asked anyway, "I'm also curious about what you are preparing during this time." Leslie also raised this question.

Levi seemed a little quiet recently, which puzzled Leslie. Although the movie The Three-Body Problem is good, it is just a commercial film after all.

Leslie originally thought that with Levi's temper, he would shoot another movie in the second half of this year and release it before the end of the year in order to steal the spotlight at the Oscars.

However, Levi did not make any moves until September, which surprised Leslie.

What on earth is he doing? Not only were others curious, but Leslie was too.

"It would be a lie to say that there is no preparation. I do have a few scripts in my hand, and I have indeed thought about how to make a movie. However, it has not been ready recently. If I want to actually shoot it, I'm afraid I have to wait until next year."

Leslie was a little surprised that it took so long to prepare.

"You're not planning to make another blockbuster, are you? Didn't you say The Three-Body Problem 2 novel hasn't been written yet? Do you want to start another series?" Leslie asked curiously.

The novel The Three-Body Problem is now on sale. This translated work immediately occupied the top spot among Chinese-translated novels as soon as it went on sale.

Leslie also bought one. Although he didn't read it carefully, he still found it quite interesting and paid attention to the second one.

Now, when he heard that Levi was preparing a movie, his first reaction was that it was The Three-Body Problem 2 hadn't been written yet, so what was there to shoot?

"How could it be? Shooting blockbusters is very tiring. How can I start another series? I don't have that much energy. I'm talking about a few scripts in my hand. It should be said that they are all literary films, but they are not very easy to shoot."

Levi's words are true - after filming The Three-Body Problem, he was indeed thinking about whether it was time to make a new movie. However, when he wanted to take pictures, he realized he was in quite a lot of trouble.

Levi does have a few scripts in his hands - the script of "The Chorus" is still in his hands. However, he didn't have much interest in filming this movie.

It's not that this movie is not good - in fact, Levi knows very well that if it can be made, it will definitely be good - but the problem is that this movie requires a group of children to act, and it must be done well.

Moreover, this movie is a movie with a lot of music. If you want to shoot this movie well, you must have a lot of singing parts, which also requires strong abilities.

Levi has no interest in filming a movie with a group of children. He has always preferred actors with more acting skills rather than those who are uncontrollable.

Children, cats, and dogs are the most uncontrollable factors in film shooting.

They either perform poorly or overly compete for the scene. It is difficult to shoot in the best condition. Levi is not sure that he can shoot such a movie well.

Moreover, he has never known much about music. Every time he makes a movie, he dares to try to use some new people in other aspects. Only in the soundtrack aspect he has to invite the top composers to score the music. This is because He lacks sufficient talent for this aspect.

In this regard, he doesn't dare to pretend to be a master. If you don't understand the music in a musical movie, it's better not to touch it; otherwise, it will be a waste of a good script.

It would be better to hand this script over to someone who really knows how to film it in the future. It's better not to let an amateur like you spoil an excellent musical movie script.

And in his hands, another movie script is the adaptation rights of "Life of Pi." However, this script is also troublesome. In Levi's view, this movie also uses 3D effects rather than 2D effects.

Almost the entire journey is at sea, with extremely beautiful scenery and tigers. It is obviously more suitable to shoot a movie like this in 3D.

If possible, he would also like to wait until a later date to film the movie.

The inability to film these two movies also leaves the script that Levi can use now, leaving only The Intouchables adaptation right.

This movie is based on a true story, and it is a very heartwarming movie that reflects inspiration and friendship. Logically speaking, it is also a good choice. However, how to adapt this script also made Levi feel a little tricky.

In Levi's memory, the film The Intouchables achieved the best box office performance of the year when it was released in France, and the box office was also quite good when released in the United States.

This film was originally a contender for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, but at the last moment, the media ruined its chances.

The reason is that the media published articles accusing the film of being "aggressive, provocative, and racist" and describing black people as stupid and problematic criminals, which is a kind of discrimination against black people.

This is actually a funny situation: black people still have a low status and have fewer opportunities to go to school. As a result, they are not as intelligent as white people.

In addition, they are poor, and there are indeed more criminals. However, these phenomena can exist but won't work in the movie if it's mentioned.

The French version of The Intouchables loses in this regard. If you want to bridge the two classes, you must first portray the huge gap between the two classes.

This movie does the same, and it is therefore considered to discriminate against black people intentionally.

If the adaptation is not good, then he may very well end up with a reputation as a racist - which is also a very troublesome script.

These troubles also forced Levi to slow down his pace and see what to do.
