Levi has always believed that if a movie wants to be shot well, it is essential to put the audience in it. Only when the audience is really in it will the audience follow the people in the movie, whether they are happy or sad, and experience life.
Although the movie The Truman Show is well conceived, it didn't do a good job when it was filmed in this respect in his previous life. They don't have the natural off-camera language to guide the audience on the path of voyeurs but express it more intuitively.
Levi didn't appreciate this technique, so after the movie started, he didn't directly point out that Truman in the movie lived in a reality show but was just filming the story of Truman, and through the lens, he introduced the audience to the story, this method is also a way of expression he wants.
It should be the audience's mood that drives the movie — at this time, the audience has been attracted by Truman, so the next thing is that Truman's life will change.
The ordinary day of Truman in the movie has passed, and the next day has arrived. Everything seemed to be the same as yesterday until when he was walking on the road, he suddenly stopped and stared at a homeless man who looked like his father.
But at this moment, all the pedestrians on the road seemed to move: two seemingly insignificant people picked up his father and left, and a group of runners blocked his way. His father was taken into the car and left; when Truman tried to chase him on the bus, he was stopped by a taxi. All the pedestrians on the road seemed to be blocking Truman from catching up with his father.
Everything happened so suddenly that Truman had no time to react. Back home, Truman talked to his mother but was easily fooled by his mother. But no matter what others said, all this had already planted a seed of doubt in his heart.
This doubt was also planted in the hearts of the audience: What is going on? The audience is also skeptical.
On the third day, things got even weirder.
"He's already crossed West Avenue; remember to let the dogs out. He's turned left into Segas Plaza..."
When Truman was driving on the main road, Truman suddenly discovered that what was reported in the radio waves was the route he was taking. In his panic, he almost ran into someone, and it was reported immediately. Such an odd situation. Truman stopped the car. The presence of his father gave him the seeds of doubt, and now it's all starting to germinate.
The photos of expelling homeless people published in the newspaper are obviously not the homeless person he saw. Inside the radio, it will play his own whereabouts. These strange sights made Truman suspicious of everything around him. He stared suspiciously at everyone on the road as if everyone might be his follower.
In this section, Truman's suspicious eyes and observing eyes around him give the movie a bit of a detective mood. The mood of the audience also became tense, and they all wanted to know what the hell was going on.
Suspicious, Truman tried to cross the road and was almost hit by a car. But Truman saw the vehicle stop in front of him. Suddenly realized something. He stretched out his hand and stopped the two cars at once. At this time, the movie's camera suddenly rose, and from the original follow-up camera, it was adjusted to the air and turned into an overhead shot.
The appearance of this scene in the movie only represents one thing: this perspective is no longer the perspective of human beings but the perspective of God. At this time, Truman suddenly stretched out his hand to block the successful operation of the vehicle and told people that he began to realize one thing: everything around him began to make Truman suspect that his world revolved around him.
In this world, he is God.
In order to verify his idea, when he was walking quickly on the road, he suddenly changed direction and rushed into a company. And he also discovered that the elevator of this company was fake, and there was a strange room behind the elevator.
The audience in the movie theater began to murmur, and they confirmed their point: Truman was indeed extraordinary.
Some people monitor themselves, and their lives are entirely in the eyes of others. Terrified, Truman hurriedly found his good friend, Marlon, telling his doubts that he was involuntary in his life and that he was being manipulated.
But Marlon once again persuaded his suspicion — his friend still hoped his life would be more stable as always. The friend's consolation made Truman feel a little calmer. But when he got home, he saw his mother and wife preparing a birthday party for him, and the idea of going out for a walk was once again broken by the warmth of life.
It seemed that all doubts were about to dissipate, just like yesterday's plot — but at this moment, a photo excited Truman again.
The wife's fingers are folded - her vows were false at the wedding.
If the warmth of the family has been able to fight against Truman's idea of escaping in the movie, then at this moment, the warmth of the family is broken.
Truman's suspicion was aroused again; this time, he even began to doubt his own life.
When this fetter is gone, he begins to seek the truth.
When the next day came, Truman no longer trusted his wife. He quietly followed her, trying to find out what she was doing in the hospital. And that false operation made Truman even more suspicious. He immediately wanted to buy a ticket to leave but was told that there was no ticket to leave. He boarded the bus, but the bus broke down immediately.
Everything is so suspicious. Truman would not feel strange in the past, even if he lived in a world where lamps could fall from the sky and rain would only fall on his head. But now, he began to doubt. This made Truman start to observe everything around him, and everything was suspected by him.
"Truman, what are you doing?"
When his wife came back, she saw Truman sitting in the car.
"Do you know? There will be three people passing by in a while on the road. They are..." Truman was talking to his wife. His wife's smile became stiff, and she knew that Truman had noticed something.
Immediately after, Truman started the car. While driving, he talked with his wife about where he wanted to go. When he turned to leave, a series of cars blocked his way. He couldn't drive at all.
But all of this was already in his expectation. He had already begun to doubt his wife, so he deliberately said the wrong way. The way of his sudden change made his car drive to the side of the bridge, but this time, what he encountered was an even more impenetrable obstacle — psychological obstacles are difficult things to overcome.
"Truman, you know. It is impossible for you to drive across the bridge..."
The wife said with some complacency. In her opinion, it has been the case that Truman just couldn't leave Seahaven Island because of fear. However, the act of Truman suddenly stuffing the steering wheel into her hand proved her mistake again.
"You drive."
After saying this, Truman closed his eyes and stepped on the accelerator.
For the first time in the whole movie, he also launched a struggle against his strange fate.
Although his wife wanted to stop him. But she also wants to live more. She could only turn the steering wheel, trying to ensure nothing would happen.
The car passed the bridge. Truman's desperate escape seems to have succeeded. But the car didn't drive out for a long time in front of them. There was a nuclear leak.
This can't be fake, can it? Truman was also puzzled again, but at this moment, the police who blocked them missed the trap.
"Goodbye, Truman!"
The policeman actually recognized him, making Truman realize he still hadn't escaped. He wanted to walk through the forest but was knocked down without accident — obviously, his escape failed.
Back home, Truman started arguing with his wife. His wife's lies and the surrounding surveillance made Truman irritable. Under his persecution, his wife finally let her slip.
"Stop him quickly!"
Following his wife's cry, Truman's doubts were confirmed: he was indeed being watched, but who was watching him? This is his doubt.
And this is also the audience's doubts: passers-by, wife, mother, and even the police - who is watching Truman? Who is it that can let his wife spy on him?
And just when his wife couldn't stand the coercion, Marlon appeared again.
"Truman, it's normal to be frustrated. Who doesn't want to be someone else? You are my brother, we know each other very well, you won't even trust me, can you? Dude, I know what the source of all your ideas is. Look, I have found you what you want."
Marlon once again played the role of comforting Truman, and this time, he did not come alone. Standing behind Marlon was Truman's father.
Truman stood up and walked towards his father, trembling.
What the hell is going on? Did Marlon help him, or was he behind the scenes? After so many betrayals, the audience dare not jump to conclusions lightly. Seeing Truman hugging his father, people became more suspicious.
At this moment, the camera showed a close-up of Marlon, and then the close-up turned into a close-up of Marlon's ears - there was a receiver there, and Marlon's words were taught to him by others.
Then, the camera suddenly zoomed out. The picture has become the picture in the camera, all of which are being filmed by others.
"Good shot, close-up, Marlon, beautifully done!"
It turned out that everything was a performance in front of the camera. Suddenly, an uncontrollable sigh erupted in the theater: the audience had only now realized Marlon, Meryl, and even the parents and pedestrians were all performing. The parents are fake, the passers-by are fake, and the wife and the friends he has known since he was seven years old are all fake; it's just a reality show.
The only real one is Truman.
Those who have been watching this reality show are the audience before the movie.
